**Ingredients for butternut squash pasta -
ROASTED BUTTERNUT SQUASH
- 2 cups butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and cubed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
SMOKED SAUSAGE
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 sausage, sliced

I don't think Nanny could have wished for a more dignified and peaceful way to live out her last days! What a blessing yall were to her! She's the type of woman I aspire to be and I thank you for showing us the lampstand she was. Nanny is at peace knowing she passed surrounded by love, and I am sure you will hear her whisper in the wind. I do believe they do go to heaven but occasionally visit us. How beautiful that she got to live with you guys and experience all that a busy household has to offer. I like Jen, am an aide. I am a home health aide up here in PA and so many of these folks who have devoted their lives to their family are destined to live alone and forgotten. Its nice to know your beloved nanny was in a house full of laughter and love.

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother, but I'm so happy you guys were able to have her with you for the last 4 weeks of her life. That time is so precious, both to her and you, I know. Watching your announcement brought back a lot of memories. My dad was on hospice and they were amazing. I helped care for my father the last 5 weeks of his life. I was there with him when he took his last breath. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to experience, but it's something I would never trade for anything in the world, except to have him back. You guys were such a blessing to her. Thank you for sharing this moment with us. We're so honored.

We lost our mom and the grandchildren s Nanny in January..my sister, my daughter and myself cared for final days on hospice in her home as she wished. My sister and I were there when she passed...it was an honor and one of the hardest things I ever went thru.

I'm saddened to hear of your Nana's passing, but it brought me a sense of gladness that she lived out her last days with the people she loved most and who loved her most. What a blessing to be cared for at the end of your life by people who want to care for you and do so with love, and then to be able to slip away quietly at the end in a peaceful setting with the family who loves you close by. It's really a tremendous gift and blessing that you gave her, and she may have even lived longer than if she'd gone into long term care or an in-patient hospice situation. She didn't have to be in a situation where staff have so many to care for that they don't have time to give much personalized care, or they sometimes get rough because they have to hurry. She didn't have to experience the institutional smells, sounds, or the other patient who is mobile but has dementia, and wanders into her room. All of that was avoided, and you made something difficult for everyone easier. I don't think the breakdown of your truck was any ordinary breakdown; I think it was a heavenly opportunity that you will reap blessings from in this life and the next. God's blessings to your family. I hope you can take comfort from knowing what a blessing you were to your Nana. 😇

Zach, I’m so sorry brother! As southern boys we cherish our Nannie’s like nobody else. I was 16 when my nanny passed and I probably cried for a week. I’ll be praying for you guys.

The hardest loss I've ever experienced was the passing of my Grandmother when I was 12. 56 years later and I still miss her. I have her picture hanging on my wall and every once in a while I have to stop and have a talk with her. My heartfelt thoughts are with you and your family!

Your Nanny sounded a lot like my Mamaw. As an adult, she went from being the parent figure to being my best friend. Mamaw's been gone almost 12 years, and I miss her terribly every single day. Many hugs and prayers for you all during this time. 💓

I’m so sorry Zach. You’re absolutely right. Death is never easy even when you know it’s coming. My husband of almost 52 years passed 3 weeks ago, and I knew it was coming. It’s still hard, as I know it is for you. In my case, I knew what he wanted, so my kids and I made it happen. Now, I’m preparing my own end of life affairs so our kids don’t have to. I can tell you from experience that, even ten years from now, you will feel blessed for the time you spent with Nannie, caring for her at the end. In my case it was our mom; four times she was hospitalized, three times she was released from the hospital to 'home' (my sister's) BECAUSE she had so much support from her family. She put so much of herself into raising us, and supporting us as adults, it was an honor & a privilege to care for her. Just a side note: Dad put a lot into supporting us too, but he passed much more quickly so there really wasn't anything we could do for him.

I’m so sorry about Nanny. It’s beautiful that she got to have that last few weeks there surrounded by people she loved and who loved her. You had your first ten years with her, she had her last weeks with you. Of course it still hurts that she’s gone, but knowing she was happy to be there and surrounded by love right to the end will bring you comfort.

Hey guys you probably already know this tip. However I’m case you don’t. Put a damp cloth under the chopping board and it will hold still while your chopping. Especially when your cutting small like garlic.
