Evening Snow Goose Hunt at the Ongaro's Saskatchewan Lodge

The hunters at the Ongaro's Saskatchewan Lodge head out with Daryl on an afternoon Snow Goose hunt after shooting a limit of ducks, a few snows and half of their dark goose limit for the day with Emily on the morning hunt.
With a storm front moving in they head out early to take advantage of the early flying birds and end up with almost a full limit of snow geese for the day!

They certainly had some problems with that wind. Lots of excuses when you miss that many.

@@warrenhicks6120 We take people hunting, good shooters, bad shooters it's all part of the job. We pick hunts with the most opportunity and try to get the birds in as close as possible for them!

@@darylgilbertoutdoors yep, it has to be frustrating to the guides when the birds are brought in tight and in their face, and they blow holes in the sky. A lot of times, they are overcooked for the conditions. If you are shooting them at 15-25 yds, which it looked like, all they need is a sk1 or if choke at the most. Those superwaterfowl chokes are meant for 40-60 yds. Hard to hit birds with a teacup sized pattern.

@Warren Hicks it can be frustrating but it’s part of it for us. Just drives us to find better hunts with more opportunity! All our rental guns have improved cylinder in them when we give them out. If someone asks we will give them a modified if they want one.

Adult snows and adult big Honkers are the smartest imo. Leaders and crackers are pretty wary at times also. Geese are generally smarter than ducks imo

Hey Daryl, I was just watching your video and I heard you mention that your dog wasn't hunting due to seizures. I was just curious as to what type of seizures he/she was having, as I just lost a Chessie pup to seizures that we couln't get under control. Man, I hope everything works out for you and your pooch. They are terrible to experience for sure. Daniel Fisher

The vet says just epilepsy. Did their tests and that what they came up with. He has been good lately though probably over 6 months since his last one. I don’t mind hunting him in field but any sort of deep water I don’t think I’ll take him anymore.

@@darylgilbertoutdoors Well that's good if that's all it is and it can be controlled. My little girl had some and then didn't have any for about three months or so then had cluster seizures and I think it hurt her brain. In the end she couldn't stop having them and I had to let her go. I have a feeling she had a tumor or something like that in her head, but we don't have very good vets down here in North Dakota and they never examined that possibility. Let him retire and live the good life. The problem without having a dog along, other than it's just cool to have your dog along, is if you got guys who can't shoot very well and you have to chase their crips.

It’s our job to put birds in front of people and provide them with lots of opportunity regardless of how well they can shoot. That’s why we look for quality hunts that provide hunters of all levels the opportunity at a good hunt!
