Hey, if you’re up for it, I would recommend you get another book on Christian apologetics. It’s by my personal favorite apologist, Dr. William Lane Craig, and it’s called “Reasonable Faith.” His book “On Guard” is also great, but “Reasonable Faith” holds a special place in my heart because it helped to draw me to faith. (Skip to last paragraph if you don’t want to read through my testimony. Trust me, I understand if you don’t want to. It’s long.) I was raised religious, as my parents were and are devout Presbyterians. But, a number of years ago when I was in college, I decided I didn’t believe in God anymore. Of course, what did I know in college? Heck, what do I know now? I didn’t believe in God because I wanted to be “God of my own life,” as Dr. Turek so brilliantly puts it. I was on a happiness quest. And so, for years I was about as ardent an atheist as you could get. I would attack religious people left and right, especially Christians. I thought that anyone who believed in a “magical wizard who lives in the sky,” as I used to put it, was a moron. This exaggerated caricature is held by many atheists today so that they can more easily knock down religion (strawman fallacy). My main points of contention on the Christian faith were on the points of evolution (particularly the theory of macro-evolution, which is spouted as fact despite some obvious flaws with it), the concern about the “so-called” contradictions in the Bible, and the alleged hypocrisy among Christians. As well as the thought that many thousands of gods have been worshipped, so how could we know that Yahweh was the true God? These were all excuses to avoid the inevitable fact that God does in fact exist. As I mentioned before, I didn’t want truth, I wanted happiness. And, as Dr. Turek has pointed out, that never goes well. The only way to happiness in the long run is to go straight through truth. After years of trying to do things my own way, I came to the realization that I had accomplished nothing. If God didn’t exist, then I was just a tiny, infinitesimal speck within an indifferent universe. Apart from God, I had no meaning. No reason to exist. Why not eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow I would die and and the world would keep on spinning? There was no satisfaction that came from my life of sin. That was, I think, when God changed my heart and opened my mind to the possibility of his existence. Of course, I had believed so many false claims about religion for so long that I still had an intellectual block. But that was about the time I came across a book called “Darwin’s Black Box” by Dr. Michael Behe. The basic claim is that Darwinism, whatever it might explain on the organismic level (the theory of micro-evolution), does not account for the evolution of complex bio-mechanical systems from species to species. Try as I might, I couldn’t find a single way to refute it. That book shattered my views on evolution, views that I had based my entire worldview on. Not long after, I decided to test my notion of contradictions in the Bible and translation errors. I decided to learn Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic so that I could read the Bible in as close to the original text as we can get. (A friend of mine already knew the languages because he went to seminary, so he helped me learn.) To my surprise, that cleared up most, if not every contradiction. As I’m sure you know, those languages have nuances that are hard to replicate in English. But the basic message was consistent. I think it was around that time that a friend of mine, who knew what I was going through, gave me a book on Christian apologetics. That book was called “Reasonable Faith.” I read it front to back. That was the book that eliminated my intellectual block on Christianity, and I came to know God. I came to realize that if God exists, and if He cares enough about me to bring me to Him, then I could do no less than give my life in service to Him. That is why that book is so important to me, and why I would recommend that others read it. It’s not a light read, but it shouldn’t necessarily fly over anyone’s head. It’s clear and concise. That said, you ultimately cannot come to know God if your heart is hardened to Him. The Christian faith is one of both the heart and the mind. Faith without knowing why you believe what you believe is foolish, just as knowing something to be true without accepting it as truth is foolish. As Paul said in 2 Corinthians 10:5-6, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.” So not only should we believe that Christianity is true, we should know why it is and be prepared to make a defense for it.

I'm from Singapore too, and I've been listening to Cornerstone Chapel since I couldn't find a bible based church locally. It is a blessing to see the apologist I respect preach in the church I listen to :)

"We don't have faith, unless and until God gives it, so no one can boast". -------------Which means those who don't have faith are correct to conclude that God didn't want them to have faith. Or maybe God expects spiritually dead people to do the impossible? "Science handled honestly can only prove God exists, because He made it all." ---------------How could god's existence possibly matter? It isn't like there's any compelling evidence that he has the least bit of interest in anybody on this planet.

Faith is trusting what you have a good reason to believe Matthew 11:1-6 makes this clear “ After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.[a] 2 When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” 4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[b] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.” Jesus is essentially saying look at what I’m doing, these are the things that were prophesied about Me, look at the works and miracles I do, no one can do these things but God, so in other words Jesus is telling them you should logically be able to come to a conclusion that I am the Christ, based off of the evidence of what I do

@Greg Booker Frank Turek was the only Christian I've seen spar with Christopher Hitchens and win. I do street evangelism and sometimes like debate, but people will listen to a gentle and irrational person much more quickly than an aggressive and logical one.

Moses didn't require the death-penalty for lying. So Moses' god probably didn't think liars were equally as bad as those to whom the death penalty applied, such as adulterers.

Each branch has a particular: individual Calling upon their life With the in general gospel message to reach the world. So my comment about Frank turek Not that he's infallible or special Because none of us are. And how the Holy Spirit uses him With his calling and gifting It is to reach the agnostic and atheist groups of people which other branches may not be Called to reach that group. And for any intense future power Of God working in our lives Would depend on the renewing of our mind Which would be the least service onto God Romans 12:2 And so on So let me know if that's a kind of good answer as a response To your reply God-bless you.

@@davidware4096 So you think today there are Christians who are "anointed by God", but who nevertheless still lack infallible teaching authority? If so, where's THAT fearfully nuanced carefully qualified doctrine of the inspiration of the Holy Spirit taught in the bible? Or are you open to the possibility that the reason modern churches never m manifest what is described in the NT is because what is described in the NT is mere fiction? Would that conclusion be more reasonable than the laborious hermeneutical gymnastics involved in reconciling the 1st century "anointing of God" with 21st century "anointing of God"?

Well they do believe that God was once a man, who was exalted to Godhood, and that he wasn't the first one to be exalted, and that every believer will one day be exalted to Godhood. That's what he means by that statement a Pantheon of gods.

Jesus died for everyone that we may have eternal life. Michael only died for 2 people. Yes, Jesus is alive because He rose from the dead! And the gift of everlasting life is still available and it is received by repentance and putting our trust in Jesus. Jesus will always be the real Hero. Jesus is our example.

Only Jesus deserves ALL the glory. No human being deserves it. Dig into the Bible to find out more. God bless you!

I think the best rebuttal to the fine-tuning argument is to ask what the point is. Why would it matter if god existed? it's not like any Christian has better than a snowball's chance in hell of demonstrating that anything in the bible "applies to us today", so that it doesn't even matter if the bible is all true. The assumption that some of it "applies to us today" cannot even be substantiated. God has less interest in the salvation of modern unbelievers than his own followers do!
