Farmers here in England use this method to trim their hedges, once any nesting birds no longer need the protection of the hedge.

I have to agree. A good way to get rid of unwanted brush, but NOT a good way to prune a tree (sorta like the difference between wet shaving whiskers VS electric shaver).
