unfortunately they were a few years too late to hit the scene. When they started making a splash the autotune generation had started and the bands with "real talent" if they didn't already have a following just didn't get the credit they deserved.
I was in high school when Van Morrison scored a hit with his song, and I've always loved it. But Everclear's version really brings back the "feeling" of those days for me. It's not better, it's not worse. It's their version and hits me where I live.
When this AMAZING CD came out, my kids were about 5 and 3, put it on in the morning, full blast, for the whole house to wake up to. We all have VERY different music tastes, kids are now 25 and 23, we can STILL put this CD on, everyone in the house sings along to every song, still loving it after all of these years!
My mom was the same way, I'm here listening to these albums on youtube trying to capture the way it felt to listen as a little kid. I'm now 23 blasting it for my sweet babies.
This version really does this song justice in that it's about remembering someone. There is hardly anything more bittersweet than thinking about lost love.
Thank you old you tube profile 🤙 I forgot about how amazing this band is and it's brought me through years of dealing. Feels great to listen and rejoice and enjoy this music again 🍻
Those brown eyed girls will ruin you for life. I still miss and love the most beautiful brown eyed girl. Kimberly Ann you have stolen my heart for ever!
The song is a cover, Brown Eyed Girl is a highly covered song. The original version was by Van Morison back in 1967 and has had more then a dozen of covers of it since then. Anything in this music video is just their interpretation of the song, they didn't write it the song has been around and re done several times over nearly 50 years.
Even though nothing beats the original, I love that they didn't try to just "cover" the original. Rather, they made it their own. That's far more interesting and enjoyable.
I don't like too many covers. Bands either ruin the original song, or copy it note for note and who needs that? This though is a really good cover of a truly classic song. It's true to the original while they make it uniquely theirs as well. Not that easy to pull off.
During the first 45 seconds, I was really hating this cover. But by the two minute mark, I did a total 180. I understand why people don't like it, but I think it's fantastic.
I'm pretty sure that he's basically been friend-zoned, therefore making him like a brother to her, while he's dreaming of being more than that, an impossible dream.
i saw them a few months back. and Art played this song by himslef with an acustic guitar for his new born daughter. they came to my town cus he found his wife here aparently. first time i ever heard of them. im very glad i did.
@thedoctorsfeziscool the whole time it was his sister. he was just a protective brother who knows he's going to have to let his sister be all on her own.
More proof why everclear should never be allowed near musical instruments. This song is a "remake" only in same sense that rappers "remake" the music they "sample" for their songs. If they had really wanted to "remake" it and "update the song they would've used the Brown Skinned Girl title and lyrics as it was originally written before racist record company execs forced the change.
Makes sense they would cover this. They did Heartspark dollar sign which basically came out and said what this song couldnt when it was made originally. All about his love for a black woman.
@sdbodyboarder Yeah they were still in the band you are correct. They were also in the band for the next two albums - Songs from An American Movie pt 2 and Slow Motion Daydream.
Beats me what Van Morrison would think, but I like it. It's a great sound, and a very good song, regradless if it's a remake or not. Like the ending of the video, you feel bad for the guy until you realize it's his sister, but you then realize he had a strained relationship with her. It brings the entire plot into a totally different light. I don't think it's "creepy" at all, at the end, to me, it seems he's just looking out for her and feeling bad for all the crappy things he did to her...
