Everclear has been going strong for three decades now and is even reissuing their debut 1993 album, World of Noise, to celebrate. Recently, Alexakis sat down with PopCulture.com to talk about re-releasing the album, which is hitting streaming services for the first time on Friday, June 10. He also opened up about the origins of Everclear, revealing that - after nearly a decade of playing music in Southern California - this "was going to be my last band."
Recalling the story of led him to start Everclear, Alexakis explained, "I had a band in San Francisco and a label in San Francisco, but I found out my girlfriend, who's from Portland, found out she was pregnant. So we moved to Portland in late '91 and tried to do the long-distance thing with my band, but just couldn't afford it. Couldn't afford it. We were on welfare. We were poor. I had no money." He continued, "And so, Everclear was going to be my last band. If that didn't work somewhere down the line, we were going to probably move to LA, and I was going to work for a record label and write songs for other people and do that thing. But I wanted to do one more band, so Everclear was my last band."

i was born in '83 & grew up in Portland thru the 80's & 90's. So Everclear became a really big deal to rock fans in PDX during the mid to late 90's. There was a great scene in that area during those years: Everclear, Elliott Smith, the Dandy Warhols, Dead Moon, Floater, Pond, Hazel, Heatmiser, Quasi, Sleater-Kinney, No. 2, Lifesavas, Poison Idea, but it was all so overshadowed by what was going on in Seattle & LA at the time. But for those who were there it was such great thing to experience. i remember hopping busses or max trains with my friends to see shows at La Luna, the Paris Theatre, Meow Meow, Satyricon, the city had a plethora of historic underground venues. But anyways - i remember my cousin brought over his cd copy of World of Noise when i was in the 7th grade i think. Til that point the only cds that i owned were Frogstomp, Sixteen Stone, the Presidents S/T, Dookie, and a 4 disc Led Zeppelin box set my dad got me for my 10th birthday with a stereo system(you're the man Dad). They were all great records but my older cousin came over one night & told me - "No dude. This record is different. It's local. It's underground. It's independent. It's punk." It was World of Noise by Everclear. We spun that cd so many times that night. And i got so lucky he forgot to bring it home when his mom picked him up the next morning.

I can share a fun short story about Art and Everclear. In 1993 or 94 (edit: gig might have been late 94') my band was on tour (we are/ were from San Diego) and we had a show with them at a place in St Louis I believe called "Vino's" (edit: not Vino's that is in Little Rock) it was a restaurant upstairs and down stairs was a fairly big basement with a bar and dance floor and small stage. I remember it was really rainy that night. So we got there and part of the pay was we got dinner (and I think $200 for the show..something like that) and so we went there to load in and have dinner etc. Ultimately we met the guys in Everclear and they were all really nice...but we basically played to them, a bartender, and one drunk older lady who danced all night to both our bands. Then when they played. I really remember it as being exactly the same. Us watching them and the drunk lady and bartender. hahaha. Alex said a really funny thing to me after our set. We were super heavy kind of The Melvins meets soundgarden or NIN, but with some punk stuff in there too with some of our faster songs....but he goes "if you guys were a ship, you'd be the SS Sassy" hahaha. It was so funny...anyway not long after I am pretty sure Santa Monica just destroyed the airwaves and they got super huge....but we always have that rainy night. (I am sure he would barely remember it if at all) I do have a pic of the drunk lady dancing somewhere. hahaha

Wow! That blows my mind. I'm the 5th commenter.. From 7 months ago. Well. What I'm about to tell you is a true story. While ( Ever-clear) Art Alexakis and his band Ever-Clear was in concert, in Ft. Meyers, FL, back in the day. The concert had not started yet. I am a song writer. God put me here to do that. I'm sure of it! For some reason, I left my friends , and went to the far right of the stage, before the concert started, away from everybody. I had a song idea.( Not even kidding ) Not paying attention to any one. In my own little world as usual. I look up for a split second, and low and behold, Art Alexakis is standing right in front of me on the other side of the fence. I immediately got star struck, if you do not know what that is. Look it up! ( It is an actual thing ) All I could say was," Thank you for your music.. Thats' it. Instead, of saying what I truly wanted to say, to one of my hero song writers, like. Bro! You have influenced my life. I am a singer , songwriter, producer now. I own a recording studio. All I can say is this. Growing up, I used think I was stupid. I was in all the dumb classes. If there is any young man, or young women, reading this, and you can relate to what I said about being stupid. My advice to you is, you are a different kind of genius that they can't teach in school. Art Alexakis... You are probably left handed, and miss understood. You! No doubt in mind were born to play an instrument...

I loved this band, until I actually had a chance to spend some time around Art. He was a total prick and I have a hard time listening to them and enjoying it like I used to.
