I'd built and sail a stock Skerry. Your mods are brilliant, and intriguing. Every sailing season I wonder how to turn my Skerry into a cruiser. And I come up empty. So nothing changes. But you've done it. Bravo
I do not know for sure, but I think they were called to an accident scene. That particular year, one of the tribers had a heart attack while paddling his kayak in that general area and around that time.
Really enjoyed your video. She has a right wee turn of speed with a bit of wind. What was your top speed please. The other thing is I admire your ingenuity and would love you to do a video on your boat mods and rigging. Fair winds
Hello and thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. She is a displacement boat and so her theoretical top displacement speed would be her hull speed, which is around 4.9 knots. In reality, I clocked her, a few times, moving faster, but it was with favorable currents. Interestingly, I made a model of this boat, just the hull, and was able to move her at higher speeds, please see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1_Djx2sCvu0.html Thank you also for your suggestion on the new video about her modifications, and I also hope you be able to see the boat on the water in person one day. Happy boating!
Love the boat, very inspirational. You should do a video just of the boat saying about the build, the mods, where everything goes etc. That will get ten thousand and more views I'm sure.
So wonderful of you to express your feedback, I appreciate it. Do you know the boat/hull is a stock CLC Skerry? The key mods are the decking (at the level of thwarts), the cabin (a lightweight wooden frame covered in thin foam sheets with Sunbrella on the outside), the additional mast and sail combo, the motor that mounts to the rudder’s post, the solar panels, hydraulic steering and autopilot.
Dudley Fort: Thank you for your kind words, i appreciate it. The panel is relatively small, only 50 Watts. It will run the motor as long as the Sun is shining. At this power level, however, this boat (with this specific motor), will only move at around 1.5 knots in still water and no wind. For higher speeds or under adverse conditions, larger panels or stored energy would be needed. Thank you again and good luck with your projects!
Alex Scott: I am very happy to hear about your interest in this boat! Please know that the hull is the stock CLC Skerry, and the rest is my own improvisation. I do not have a blog, but I am pleased to share that the handling of the mast and sails is done from the cockpit. The masts are unstayed, I just insert them into the tubing/socket I epoxied into the hull. The two-piece masts and sails stow in the front part of the boat when not in use. I hope this helps and I wish you success!
Great video! I couldn't play above 240p, though. Did you edit it using something that compressed it, or is my connection limiting the quality? Also, is EC always around the time of the full moon? Looks like you had some bright nights:)
Mateusz Buszko: I am glad you watched the video and I am sorry it only played in 240p for you. I used Splice to create it, saving the resulting video in HD-720p. The event always starts on the first weekend of March. The weather was absolutely splendid this time, and, indeed, the night sailing under the Moon was fabulous! Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you for your comment. Yes, I have added numerous features to the original boat, but the hull is the stock CLC Skerry Please let me know if you are interested. Happy boating!
CLC skerry modified?looks very swampscott dory like, very nice boat and very nice challenge.Although water tribe should introduce your builds more. Not your boat but any idea what that "sponge Bob trimaran" was?
Tarkan gürler: Thank you, I appreciate your comment and kind words. I have no info on other boats, but I am sure you will be able to find what you need. Enjoy your boating!
Some Asian Guy: Thank you for your feedback on quality. I just posted an HD-720p version of this same video and hope it will work better for you. Thank you for watching!
