I wanted to go over all the gear that I brought and say what was critical and what never left it's waterproof bag. I brought everything that was required, but there is a lot of that stuff that just didn't get used. I got lucky I guess, but I could have done my packing and gear a little bit cheaper. I hope this video can help others on what they bring.

Thanks for sharing. I have appreciated your videos because your presentations are intelligently done, logical, orderly, informative and honest. You share both what worked and what didn't. You are good at this! Thanks again.

Thank you and I hope you get the chance to try it someday. Even just to Cape Haze or Chokoloskee would be an adventure

Salty Moose, I have been enjoying your company ever since launching side by side at Ft DeSoto, then CP1&CP3. And then vicariously through your EXCELLENT EC videos. You are a really great narrator/producer. Also super impressed with your organization and prep, and you've given me great ideas for my next EC (8th?) -- like the citronella candle! We could SERIOUSLY have used one the Tuesday(?) night you were in Choko -- we were 5 miles away, out by the Gulf, and the skeeters were truly beyond unreal. That same night the mega-storm came through. I'm sure it bombed you too a few miles away, but you didn't really mention it....did you sleep through all the lightning bolts and thunderclaps?😱😜. And how did you maintain such a positive attitude for 6 days, through thick and thin!? There's a reason you were one of the relatively few "survivers." DonKeyHoTey & Waveslayer.

HEY DonKeyHoTey!! I was trying to remember your name when I was doing the video at Flamingo but it escaped me, and I feel bad for not giving you guys a shout out since we saw each other so much on the Challenge. Heck, I even helped carry your boat from trailer to the beach but my brain wasn't registering your name. sorry about that. As for the storm at Choko, my boat was safely anchored at the beach at check point 2 and I was exhausted. knowing that I was there until the next tide swing, my boat was safely on shore, I had my best night sleep on the whole trip (a solid 5+ hrs) and barely heard the thunder!! of course, if I was out in it, or anchored near shore instead of on it, I wouldn't of had that sound of sleep :). it was great seeing you at the checkpoints and seeing your boat on the beach at the finish line! my positive attitude I give a lot of credit to my dad. I used to do trips with him like you and Waveslayer are doing and he was always level headed and calm. I try to copy that attitude :) I'm looking forward to seeing you on the next challenge and to see how you upgrade your boat :)

Thank you. I'm hopefully bringing my dad along for the Texas 200 which will limit my video time, but I will make at least one video capturing the event.

Great series, I think that was one of the best EC videos I've seen, very entertaining! I hope you see those seen/liked counters go up and look forward to your next videos!

Another good video, and something all contestants should do, a debrief. Mine was way to much food without eating enough real food. Not enough rest (36 hours and 30 hour paddles). Since no two challenges are the same, just because you didn't use it this year doesn't mean it isn't going to be necessary next time. Rethink that mast connection, dianema has its weaknesses. I agree with each year being different. when I was being inspected, it was off camera but he asked how much food I had, and my response was "I have a dumb amount of food" which he laughed at and said "good, that's about right" :). and Yes, I am going to replace the dianema with SS cable, which is what I should have done at the get go. I have the tools and equipment, I just thought the Dianema would hold out. lesson learned.

Great series. Enjoyed watching it. I'm glad you're thinking of doing the TX 200. I was gonna do it this year but won't quite be ready in time but will train this year. The wind and heat here on the Texas coast can be brutal so be prepared. It's not a race so at least you can rest.

Thanks for the heads up. I've heard about the brutal heat and high winds. It's going to be its own type of challenge and much different than the EC. I have some ideas to help with that, hopefully they work :)

It sounds like the Windrider would be an excellent beach camp cruiser. Could spend some time on the islands near Flamingo.

Very cool. Well done. Congratulations! What place did you finish, out of how many starters? How many days did it take? I'd love to do this and the R2AK. The Appalachian trail also interests me.

Where did you finish, out of how many? And how many days was it? I'd love to do the EC and R2AK. And I'm also interested in the Appalachian trail.

I was 40th out of 78, and it took 7 full days without hardly any sleep. It's a brutal run for sure. The R2AK sounds awesome too, I might have to give that one a go too someday:)
