I wanted to throw you for a loop with how different the song was, so that succeeded lolol. I know I mentioned before that this game has a bunch of different composers, but both songs you've reacted to so far were actually the same composer, cazok! This is not the only metal track in the game, but overall as a rhythm game Everhood has a pretty varied soundtrack. Revenge is certainly one of my favorites though, and it plays for what is probably in the top 3 hardest bosses in the game.

If you think this is top 3 then wait until you see the secret bosses, also the inferno counts as an actual boss because you can actually beat it
@VelvetAura

@@GamingForeverEpic My top 3 is Dev Gnomes, Cat God, Frog's Wrath. Frog's Wrath is at the bottom of that pole. I don't count the incinerator but honestly it wasn't as hard for me to beat because learning the pattern was easier than Frog's for me.

A really cool part is that all of this music is played in-game, like at 2:10 the boss rapidly swaps different types of guitars for each strum and solo sections, while also playing the organ himself. If you don’t actively hurt him, the fight ends with him breaking his guitar’s strings from solo’ing too hard at the end of the song’s loop, hence why it cuts off like that.

For a little more context on this jam’s usage of really crazy experimental guitar work, you’re fighting for your life against a frog guitarist. He’s playing an acoustic in your first battle with him but then he pulls this power metal shit out when he’s seriously trying to end you.

The Game play Visuals are so awesome for this Song. As your Enemy Switches out the Different Instrumentes that circle behind him. So fucking awesome.

The battles in the game involve your enemy trying to kill you with, in essence, musical magic. Each character's personality and motivation is expressed through a combination of their musical style and the shape and speed of the beats they throw at you. For this song, it's a part of an alternate ending where you betray a supremely powerful ally, which causes them to go all out. Thus the title, and also the frenetic nature of the song as he tries harder and harder to kill you. It's a really special game, one of those experiences that could only exist as a rhythm game thanks to how tightly the gameplay is woven into the story.

In the game, the character that is technically playing the song, when it ends, the character gives up and starts crying because they can not make the player character listen.

Everhood, his songs make me feel chills and understand what happening during the fight. Like Feisty Flowers in the sad part when the background is black with crosses and no much flower like the beginning of the fight.

Just found your channel and I gotta say I really love your commentary on stuff. Very insightful, and I like how you take notes on everything. You actually unknowingly hit the nail on the head when you talked about this song feeling like a completely different entity from Feisty Flowers. The music in the game is actually very closely tied to the battle system, so much so that every fight carries with it a different mood/style/genre based on the personality/mood of whoever (or whatever) you're fighting. And believe me when I say every song in Everhood is a certified bop. If you plan on listening to more from the OST down the road, I highly recommend "The Final battle", "Wrath of God", and "Reconciliation". Those are a few of my personal favorites but realistically they're all bangers so it's hard to choose favorites. "Spained Out" is also a short and simple one I think you would personally appreciate.

This is a good game, but a very unusual thing about the OST for me is a lack of leitmotifs. You end up with several moments like this, with really different musical genres that just sound foreign to the rest of the soundtrack. Doesn't mean there aren't a few absolute bangers. I was going to suggest you listen to Feisty Flowers but someone beat me to it LOL
@VelvetAura
@VelvetAura 2 года назад
Yeah, I feel like that's a product of having many composers working on a single soundtrack together. I kind of like that the OST isn't filled with leimotifs though, just one less thing for people to compare this game to Undertale with lol

I've seen everhood played through fully maybe 4 times and the music literally STILL gives me goosebumps. I rememeber every fight and the speeches just because the songs and how well they feel. I do recall you doing a bit of gaming, I'm not sure if you have the time or interest to play this game but I would genuinely love to watch it again and see your first experience with it yourself, especially being able to hear the songs in game and connect them to their in game battles

@@VelvetAura hey, didn't you request the song? Great choice 🤟🏽. I just haven't had the motivation to start but I honestly bought the game myself and wanna record or stream and go through it myself. I wanna give at 6ish months to at least have my memory be jogged rather than remembering everything
@VelvetAura

@@moneyboy503 Yep, that was me! Thanks! That's a good idea honestly, and it's not a very long game. You could probably finish it at minimum completion in roughly 5-6 hours. I hope you have a great time with Everhood when you eventually get around to playing it!

My next suggestion would be a song called Euthanasia Rollercoaster, its from the same game. I assume you don't wanna do too many songs from the same game as you gotta move onto others, but listen to that song and finish the holy trinity of music from everhood
@nobodyimportant4778
@nobodyimportant4778 2 года назад
So the reason the songs are all drastically different in sound is that everhood is a sort of reverse rhythm game where you avoid the beats instead of hitting them. With every character being immortal and forced to live with one another, they fight strictly with music based magic. Both to beat each other up and for fun as a kind of sport or competition. Thus every opponent uses a different song to fight you, with the style depending on their mood and personal style.

Man, I have such a love-hate relationship with this game. They put EVERYTHING into the music and how it impacted the gameplay. It has some of the most variety and quality in terms of a video game OST. But, all that effort they put into the music side of things, they sacrificed the story for. I get they went for a more existential, almost trippy fever dream tale. But man, between the inconsistent messages and morals that are downright repugnant when you really think about it, the game is a bit of a mess. I get what they were going for, but it really falls flat. Phenomenal music, amazing style, and awesome gameplay. But the story really tries to throw twenty different existential messages at the player, and only manages to send one that is really messed up in some ways. Ugh. It's a bummer.
@Vonias
@Vonias 2 года назад
Yeah I thought the game was going to have some ending that made it's themes and messages make sense but uh.... yeah that didn't happen. What a weird mess of a game.

Mileage will vary with the story, but I personally loved it. It just depends on how you view these concepts and that's inherently going to be different from person to person. You can count it against the game, but I personally connected with it quite a lot and was touched by it ultimately in the end.

FINALLY, someone that understands why I felt so gross with that story. Every comment I put down was drowned in a slew of "It's ok, they've been there for so long, they WANTED to die, so murder is fiiiiiine." Honestly made me afraid for the human race.
@Vonias
@Vonias 2 года назад
@@SapphireDragon357 BUT SOME OF THEM DIDN'T THOUGH. I understand the one's who actively were okay with it, but a lot of them seemed like they were perfectly fine just vibing and we're supposed to believe that "no no, deep down they truly do want death, they just don't know it" or some crap?!?!? That's genuinely psychotic. I appreciate the "reverse undertale" concept, I really think it's a clever idea and with some tweaks it might have been able to work. But what we actually got was NOT done well imo. Also the story weirdly backpedals at the end with having that post-death "actually they're all fine and appreciate you killing them!" scene? Like, isn't the whole point to end the stream of consciousness, they don't seem very dead to me?
@VelvetAura
@VelvetAura 2 года назад
The game makes it pretty clear that these guys don't want to die because they're stuck in a never-ending loop of living and forgetting their experiences over and over again. They don't have the freedom to make that choice anymore because they have no grasp over their situation. They're essentially living their lives on loop, and their current selves are, for the most part, just shadows of who they once were. Trying to apply everyday morals to a fantasy setting that operates by completely different rules is bound to have some conflicts. Of course you're supposed to struggle with the morality of it, but I think the beauty of it is that you can have so many different takeaways. I can watch five separate playthroughs of Everhood and get five different views of the story. Some people are on board with the concept right away and don't show a ton of remorse for what they're doing, some struggle with the morality of it at first but come to understand that it's the only option, and some will disagree with the message to the end. It just depends on who you are or what point in your life you're at. I prefer that over a mostly universal experience, personally.
