Taylor really did us all dirty by putting champagne problems, ‘tis the damn season, and tolerate it so close together !!!!!!!!! My emotions have several questions for ms swift!!!!! But I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way
Wait, I think I cracked one little detail. The reason why "closure" comes right after "marjorie". She's literally explaining why she acted the way she acted during the Kanye/Big Machine/Scooter drama: she was following her grandmother's advice. Never be so kind you forget to be clever. Never be so polite you forget your power. She literally "didn't have in herself to go with grace". She had to stand up for herself. But she still defended herself kindly, without becoming a bully or publicizing personal details of their history. And she doesn't need closure. She's fine with her spite and has no regrets about standing up for herself. And like her grandmother, she's going where her feet cant touch (aka leaving big machine, being outspoken about musicians rights). Probably reaching, but wow, it makes sense.

You're so insightful omg. You got the meaning of 'Tis the damn season after 5 seconds! And I love that I'm not the only one who thought Coney Island was Taylor singing to her exes, the whole metaphor of the merry-go-round as failed relationships and making the same mistakes? I mean...
tolerate it just hits me deep within my bones. I've been doing my best to show my family all of my capacities and they just tolerate it. I never felt appreciated by anyone, even my friends. I can't even end the song without crying. It's just so amazing how someone can touch you through music.
@@yacinekara6608 I was thrown off by the beat and the transition between the percussion and the piano but once you realise it's in 5/4 and anticipate the melody, you can really hear how everything actually works really well. It kind of reminds me of Elastic Heart, which also threw me off initially
watching this and crying with you felt like i was listening to this with someone who has been through what i’ve been through WOW crying with you was therapeutic
The gold rush is a period in american history where everyone rushed west, where huge amounts of gold could be discovered and it was, at the time, largely untouched.. You could strike gold and become incredibly wealthy at the time. But So many were digging for it. It was dangerous. A gamble... And people were willing to die for it. So the race to get out west and dig for gold was called the 'gold rush'. So shes comparing this man to the gold that everyone was rushing to posess. Shes saying everyone wants you, like the gold out west... They'll die just to touch you ... But I dont like a gold rush. I dont like competing with the whole world for buried treasures. I dont like not knowing if I'll be the one to strike it big. I dont like how this feels. She wonders what its like to grow up being that desired. That coveted. In a way she's kind of saying... Everyone wants you and so do I. But I'm just another anyone, to you. And I hate that. So im tapping out. It's actually a brillaint fucking metaphor for dating someone that 'everyone else' would literally die to be with and explaining why on earth someone might walk away from it. Many, in fact, died digging for that gold. But she dont like no gold rush. Shes not willing to compete for anyone's love. She aint killing herself for no body and no thing. Amen.
This video made me feel like we were friends listening to this album together...i was crying when you were crying and i just felt so connected to you, thank you Omg i wanna be your friend you say may thoughts i luv u
the way you went from not knowing much about tay at all to IMMEDIATELY picking up on meet me in the hallway and the moment i knew!! its the growth for me mama!!!
I've been waiting to hear someone mention the Gatsby connection in happiness!! It's just a nice little layer to the song, especially given all the literary references in the album.
my top five are: 1. tolerate it 2. ‘tis the damn season 3. champagne problems 4. evermore 5. dorothea i loved your reaction, and i could definitely relate to your tears on tolerate it. i cried like a baby 😭
I love love love Tis the Damn Season, Tolerate It, Ivy, and Happiness. No one is talking about Coney Island, and I really am falling for that song as well.
aww emma watching u cry was making me cry :( this album is so beautiful, i actually really liked no body no crime for the story element & also marjorie was a very emotional track for me bc i think a lot of us can relate to having lost someone, especially a grandparent, and wishing u could still talk to them and wishing you'd kept little remnants of them like receipts, cards etc honestly it's hard to pick a favourite!! taylor is such an amazing songwriter :') dorothea reminds me of the lucky one because like,, the lucky one is also about someone who became famous and the line in dorothea that goes "being known for who you know" to me is similar to "and your lover in the foyer doesn't even know you" in the lucky one - both songs are about women who became so famous that other people only care about their fame/their wealth/their connections to famous people/their looks etc
You looked really sad and pensive through Champagne Problems and Tis The Damn Season and I wondered if you were going to cry, but of course it was track 5 that did it. Loved this reaction and your thoughtful comments and funny edits, as always 💗
When you said Kacey Musgraves I lost my mind! I hadn't even thought about that collab but if she ever has a feature on a Taylor album I would die. It would have been incredible if it was on this album
Everything you said about Tolerate it after that first verse hit me so hard because that's exactly how I took it. Every relationship I've had, romantic and platonic but ESPECIALLY with my family, specifically my parents, has felt like that and it does so much damage. I'm 31 this years and I'm only just getting to a point where I realise that I deserve more than being tolerated, and my current partnr helped me realise it. After cutting out toxic friends and family I'm in a much better place. Tolerate It is a rough one for all of us tbh. ♥
My favourites from folklore and evermore are: folklore- 1. my tears ricochet 2. cardigan 3. epiphany 4. hoax 5. august evermore- 1. willow dancing witch version 2. no body , no crime 3. tolerate it 4. cowboy like me 5. champagne problems
I cant believe I only just now found you I’M SO MAD I love you so much already I’m about to binge everything on here even the ones where youre reacting to stuff I dont know!!!! Its a stan moment from me
I really felt tolerate it too....I am the product of 2 abusive marriages, now married to a magnificent man who has somehow allowed me to heal - very slowly. And I do mean, very slowly. It's just like you said...it takes YEARS.
I gotta say you are very smart and you have very good memory to pull things, lyrics and examples from other songs, TV shows etc ❤😊 I'm SO late for your taylor journey, I randomly just saw your very first taylor video and had to keep watching these 😁
Loved your reaction! Thank you for making this video! As for “gold rush” + how the song moves... Welcome to chamber pop, girl! If you love what Taylor has been doing on “folklore” + “evermore” in terms of both music + songwriting/lyricism/storytelling, check out the queen of chamber pop + indie alternative folk/goth-folk, Tori Amos! (Personally, I’ve been dying for Taylor’s music to come to this place because it always felt so meant for her - I figured or at least hoped she’d find her way here + I’m so glad she’s found this creatively thrilling for herself + we got these gifts in 2020 when I think we all needed them most.)
I feel like you were spot on with your thoughts on Ivy. If you've seen the Apple TV show Dickinson, a lot of people think Ivy is about Emily Dickinson's relationship with her brother's wife, Sue.
I had always thought that Ivy was from Sue’s point of view to Emily and lo and behold Ivy plays at the end of the penultimate episode. I screamed when it started. Well actually I was already screaming, but this made me scream more.
and omfg think about how Coney Island is just a smidgen of anything it ever used to be. Everybody loves to remember it as a place that held so much nostalgia, though it’s shit now. Think about how all her past relationships didn’t work out. Loves that died out, lovers that up and left her in ruin, in the cold
OMG I was just waiting for someone on the internet to confirm that this whole lbum has HUGE Gilmore Girls vibes, I wouldn't be surprised if she was inspired by it
I'm not even halfway through the video and I'm in love. Your personality, wit, humor. You must be a 90's kid like me. Immediately subscribed and I'm probably gonna binge watch the hell out of your channel. Socially distanced hugs from Italy!
ahh I love your videos! my top 5 *today* is tolerate it, gold rush, champagne problems, 'tis the damn season and cowboy like me (and I have to include coney island) THE ALBUM IS JUST THAT PERFECT p.s. I had the same reaction to tolerate it 🥺
I’ve been here since your first listen to Taylor, I just subscribed because how was I NOT already and I’m just living for your analysis, your looking for Easter eggs and general fan-girling, I love this journey
My favorite thing is when Taylor writes songs about failed romance that don't put the blame on the other party, because it's so easy to forget that sometimes, even when it doesn't work out, the other person is not necessarily a villain. Songs like champagne problems and Back to December and Getaway Car, for example. She's so wise and she weaves truth into her words like golden threads of starlight. Also: You're the only reactor I've seen who got both the Robert Frost and Great Gatsby references. We stan a cultured queen
Giiirl 'Tolerate it' got me the exact same way!! Can't stop listening to it since yesterday and every time I cry my eyes out 😭 I got out of a toxic relationship last summer where I was tolerated for a long time, best decision in my life. Almost a year later it still hurts thinking about how much of myself I sacrificed by staying. Today I watched your 'I knew you were trouble' reaction and the line: "The worst part wasn't losing him. It was losing me." literally had me crying all over again. Since my breakup was in July 2020, there COULDN'T have been a better time for Taylor to release Folklore and Evermore. P.S. "Happiness" is about packing up a long, life altering relationship up and moving on. Still can't really relate to it, probably because I'm not ready to forgive yet. Love your videos and talks! Keep it up! ❤ Also, my favs: 1. Tolerate it 2. Champagne problems 3. Tis' the damn season (really relatable for me) 4. Closure !! 5. Evermore! 6. It's time to go !! This whole album is fucking relatable, most of em are my favs, really hard to pick 😂
I know she said this album isn’t a story, it’s just a compilation of songs, but Dorothea was the first song she wrote for the album, an I can’t help but feel like thus album is Dorothea’s life. I have a whole theory rearranging and tying the songs together.
Taylor and Joe are co-writers of Champagne Problems and there is a theory this was written from the perspective of a possible ex of Joe's. So if this were true, then he proposed to his ex, and she said no. Taylor is the woman referenced in the latter half of the song that is able to give joe what his ex couldn't.
We've come such a long way like you said. Your first ever Taylor's reaction was the first one I've watched from you. And from someone who were not a big fan of her to now you literally quoted her previous lyrics.. WE STAN!! Oh and I've watched Country Strong. Leighton Meester's songs from that movie are in my playlist. It's been a while since the last time I watched it though. I need to watch it again.
Omg girl u know I love you!!!!!!! I KNEW you’d have seen country strong hahaha. Hope you’re so good, sending you and yours so much love for Christmas xxxx
emma, idk if you're a fan of bon iver, but if you liked closure, i think that you would really like bon iver's album 22, a million. that track i think is VERY heavily influenced by that album and Justin. it has an indie yet chaotic feel to it that is a very cool sound!!
