Man, I am like you exactly. Never got into EQ2 back in the day, and really havent given it a chance until this server. (yet I love EQ1) No Krono had me try it and I am glad I have so far. I am only lvl 9 but there are so many new players on this server. Excited to see some of the locations and lore post EQ1 PoP storyline.

I'm really glad you're giving EQ2 another shot! I was one of the people in older videos who mentioned the beta. A lot of other commenters have given great advice so I'll try not to re-tread over other topics. A lot has changed in Norrath. Like you notice "D'Lere" has it's own island, and Ogres are cool in Freeport. They broke the game into a simpler Good v. Evil faction system, rather than EQ1's collection of cities, all with various faction levels. I do really miss that. Rather than being cool with some races/cities but not others, you are either good, and in Qeynos, or you're evil and in Freeport. They are kind of mirrors of each other. They have almost identical tutorial islands which are made to take you to around level 5, then you'll get to the main city with racial suburbs. Those are all connected to a set of like three or four newbie zones where you'll do quest lines and level up with other evil low level players from levels 4 ish to 12ish. Then you graduate to the mainland which for you will be the Commonlands. You'll go out and hunt beetles and orcs and griffons or you can do one of the dungeons. There's a level 10ish dungeon and a level 20ish dungeon. In Commonlands you've got Fallen Gate which I don't want to spoil. It, and Stormhold which is the good side equivalent dungeon are two of my favorite dungeons in the game. You'll want to follow the quest lines as those are the best ways to get XP, but you'll still need to grind some too. They slowed the XP rates waaaaaay down from live which is nice. Live is so fast you'll often start to out-level an area in the middle of the quest line. If you enjoy the lore and story there's lot's of it to be found. The voice acting is really great where it's present but you'll be reading a lot. With that said, the XP isn't as slow as P99/Quarm. You won't have to spend days at a camp for a level which I personally enjoy. Lastly, with the enemies. You're going to be able to murk some even cons, and possibly even some solo yellows as a Brigand in the low levels, which feels super weird as a rogue right?! In my experience on the Beta server that lasted until about level 3 or 4, where you had to be careful and start only single pulling whites or blues. You'll eventually start to find higher tier mobs too. You'll see that have one, two or three arrows above their heads which simple means they're stronger than normal mobs of that level. You will even see mobs with "Heroic" tags which are even stronger, and usually chained in groups. (You'll know this when you target one, and like two or three other mobs will all have glowing rings under their feet.) You won't be able to single pull these mobs, and a "Heroic" encounter is usually intended for a group, Good luck, I hope you enjoy EQ2, and maybe I'll see you around!

Crafting/Gathering - Nodes respawn, you need a certain gathering skill to gather some items, and you have gathering skills that level up in order to guarantee a successful gather. There are also rare harvests which make much more powerful versions of gear. Crafting classes have a similar Archetype - Class - Subclass thing level 1-9 is general Artisan - all recipes are available to everyone level 10-19 you pick Scholar, Outfitter, or Craftsman Level 20 - Scholars can be Scribes (Priest/mage spells upgrades), Jewelers (Jewelry and Scout skill upgrades), or Alchemists (potions/poisons and Fighter skill upgrades) Outfitters can be Armorers (plate/chain armor and heavier shields) Tailors (leather/cloth armor and leather bags) or Weaponsmiths (thrown and melee weapons) Craftsman can be Provisioners (food/drink) Carpenters (Furniture and strongboxes -bank storage) or Woodworkers (wooden weapons, shields, consumables)

@@ClassicEverQuest I have done a TON of crafting in EQ2. It's good...but I think FFXIV has refined it even more... If you do get into crafting, it starts out seeming hard to get pristine combines, but once you hit level 10 you get abilities that improve durability, not just progress, so then you can almost always guarantee a pristine combine. There's also a questline once you get to the main cities that will give you the level 1-9 books for free and give you some great xp, so IMO don't craft on the island, wait to get to town.

I was a massive EQ2 player... for years... never seen this channel before. I'm gonna watch this video and maybe I'll have some helpful input to add to the conversation Overall IMO Origins is awesome. I haven't played any Daybreak for 10 years but I'm hooked again big time! FYI in the very original release of the game, you did not pick a class until after character creation - so the stuff on the boat was designed before you had a class and you used to be totally naked without any weapons... this is why it gives you that crappy shirt and club even though you start with weapons.

UI tips The book over the head means you have a quest ready to turn in at that NPC - you just didn't pick the chat option that completes the quest (there's lots of quests on the island, but usually you'd do that one first and it leads to the rest)... Quests give lots of xp, so missing out on the whole questing thingon the island really threw your experience off. BTW Feather = questgiver, a Book with a feather = npc advances quest, Closed book - turn in for completed quest Moving UI around - if you hit F10 it toggles a UI edit mode where all the UI elements have black boxes around them and you can drag them around. You can also right click UI elements to see other options (different options depending on what element, like hotbars have a bunch of their own options) Stealth - if a mob can see you they will "glow red" around their name. If their head turns towards you that's not part of the stealth mechanic. There's no positional detection when it comes to a mob's aggro radius... you either are close enough to be seen or not... although line of sight is required and I think line of sight is based on your feet being able to see their feet, not the head. You can't tell if something is hostile while you are stealthed unless they see through stealth - usually only other scout class npcs see through stealth. Some mobs are actually linked together... some mobs are social but not linked (body pulling prevents social mobs from aggroing) and some mobs are not social... just kinda depends on the encounter.

EQ2 LORE splits off from EQ1 sometime before the Gates of Discord Expansion. A series of events happened, not exactly sure what was first or what was last, but teleportation magic stopped working, the moon exploded (causing continents to break apart) and the Gods disappeared.
@ClassicEverQuest

I actually know a lot about this. It was the events of planes of power. That's where the timeline splits. The true timeline is EQ2 and the alternate timeline is EQ1 as it keeps going on as if Plane of Time did not happen.
@eideticex
@eideticex 2 месяца назад
It actually splits at multiple places. Between freeing Zebuxoruk from his prison in the Plane of Time and cracking open the portal to Discord was the invasion of the Nexus. An in-game event those of us playing at the time were able to join. Then there's Zebuxoruk yet again tempering with Time in Seeds of Destruction. Then there's the crack into the Ethernere that the dragon traveled through to the ruins of the Planes of Karana. It's kind of like the split was non-linear with cracks where the timelines diverged.

@@eideticex This is interesting to hear... it makes me wonder if specific events you describe above correspond with specific problems related to the "calamity". I don't know if this is the right order but there's 3 major events that I can name: 1st: Teleportation Magic stopped functioning. 2nd: The Gods stopped communicating with mortals (some thought them dead, though they do return in a later expansion) 3rd: The destruction of Luclin (which I think is what caused the shattering of the world)

Scouts - all acouts get pathfinding (14% run speed buff), Group Evac, Trap disarm (loot chests), self only sneak (invis), Tracking, can change the Heroic Oppertunity type. Bards are very wanted in groups and every raid group needs one also. They are a low dps class. Dirge = Melee buffer, everyone benifits from a Dirge but the melee get more from a Drige than casters do. Troubador= Caster buffer. All bards offer the best run speed in the game, more than mounts. The other 4 rogue types all use posions. Rogue subtypes = mid teir DPS with a little extra utility like group sneak. Much later they get a raid wide AE blocker. Swashbuckler = A focus on AE dps (This becomes more of a focus in later levels) and some debuffs to reduce incoming, also get group invis, hate transfere buff for the tank and a single target mez. Brigand = mid teir dps with a single target focus and some hefty debuffs to reduce mob defensives, increasing incomming player damage, every raid loves one brig. Predators subtypes = high damage teir classes but very little utily outside of standard scout utility. Assassin = EQ1 rogue, they are top teir damage and thats all they bring. They get a hate transfere buff for the tank. Ranger = Tier 1 dps with a 1/3 being melee and 2/3s being ranged, to suceede you will need to mix both types. **disclaimer i have only played Swashbuckler and Dirge from the scouts, so some unitly is probsbly missing from other classes.

Healers Healing in EQ2 is very different that EQ1. All healers can main heal for a group. The 3 types of healers each have their own machanic for healing. If the group/raid needs stronger healing you layer the healing types togther. Wards get depleted first, then reactives do their thing and regens fill any gaps. You dont really want two of the same type of healer in a group. When you see looking for non-leather heals in lfg channel, thats because they already have a druid, its not because they dont want one. Clerics, use reactives (heal for x when hit, x number of times) this comes in a single target and group variety. Templar = very versitle healer, they have more healing tools and death saves than anyother healer. Very low dps, slow but safe solo. Inquisitor=good all round healing classes with buffs for melee. Some power issues. Shaman, use Wards which prevent x amount of damage before the ward ends. Again they get both group and single target wards. Mystic = Shaman are great but slow healers, group ward is a long cast time. They also get buffs for melee later. Slow solo. Stong AE debuffs. Defiler = biggest wards, considered one of the best healers in the game. They, along with Templars are the main tank healers. Strong single target debuffs. Druids. Get Heal over Time for their mechanic. These heal for x every few seconds. Very good a healing raw hitponts faster than anyother class. Very popular claases. Warden = stronger healer of the two Druids, much later they get some melee skills and can do decent DPS. Most people consider the Warden the easist class to solo heal a group with. Get ports later. Fury= I consider this class to be a hybrid, they are half druid a d half wizard. Good healers with a touch of dps. They also get group invis!

But slogging through content solo is mind-numbingly slow and extremely meh. I met a few people here and there in the past few days but nothing lasted more than a short while - just to get through a tiny piece before moving on. A lot and I mean A LOT of people are running dual accounts. I see defiler/necro, SK/fury, etc., common comps. I really wanted this to work but again, I'm not logging into a game to solo. I can do that perfectly fine in WoW classic, lol.

Hey Classic. All classes are paired and are a variant of each other. The Shadowknight is paired with Paladin for example, differences are similar enough to EQ for you understand. Guardian = ultimate raid tank, lowest fighter DPS. Berserker = Tought fighter with more AE and DPS than a Guardian. Very good tank. Shadowknight = Great group tanks, life taps etc. Paladin = Defensive with less dps but more healing. Monk = evasion tank, can self heal with mend. Monks are tanks in EQ2. Brawler = DPS verion of a monk, mostly unplayed as monk is overall considered much better. This Is your fighter class choice type. All of them can tank, if you want to raid tank Guardian is the only real choice in this Era, off tank is berserker. You may see guilds run others but it's not the meta picks.

Technically monks are also Brawlers - Monks and Bruisers are the two subclasses... Monks are more defensive oriented and have a bit lower cooldowns with faster attack speed. Monk heal is actually worse than bruisers, but the Bruiser heal is self-only where monk can use it on someone else. Bruisers generally have bigger burst and upfront damage, but don't look as cool and aren't as good in a group is the general consensus.

Monk/bruiser Pally/SK - necro and mage share a coin (necro is the evil summoner go figure!) so yeah. same 'classes' as eq with a lil flavor diffference for good/evil. Be Evil! Be. Ratonga

Not every class is broken down by good and evil. Each archetype has one neutral class... Warriors (Berserkers/Guardians) are neutral. Mages = they do not offer the utilty that a scout does. Mostyl dps classes. Enchanters = sought after buffer types. Mid tier dps. Every raid group wants one of the two enchanters. Illionist = their pet is a copy of themselves, decent dps but weaker at tanking. Mage group buffer for raids. Coercer = charm but less powerful than EQ1, also less deadly. Later best power recovery in the game. Buffs for the tank. Wanted in raids for main tank buffage, sometimes off tank. Mages = The mage pet classes. Generally shunned in raids, people do take them but not first choice and these are both popular classes as they solo very well. Conjurer = like the mage in EQ1 they get a tank, scout and mage pet. Most use the scout, the tank pet taunts and is pretty beefy. More AE based, do get some utilty, like stone skin etc which is sometimes used in the main tank group, though rarely. Necromancer = tank, scout and mage pet just like the conj. They get lifetaps, fd, rez and much later lifeburn. Very popular like conj, sometimes meta, mostly not. Sorcerers = teir 1 dps, your big boom classes. This is all they do. Wizard = single target focused teir 1 boom class. Rough solo as you are relaying on root, can solo the thoughest group mobs but with a high risk of dying. Later they get ports. Warlock = The AE version of wizard. Mages are very popular in general.

This is slightly off imo... Mages and Scouts are broken down as follows: T1 DPS (little utility but more raw damage) This would be Sorcerors (Wizards/Warlocks) and Predators (Assassin/Ranger) T2 DPS (more utility slightly lower damage) Rogues (Brigand/Swashbuckler) and Summoners (Necromancer/Conjurer) T3 DPS/Support (primarily utility with less emphasis on damage) and this is where Bards and the 2 Enchanters come in. Now the reality doesn't always match this hypothetical breakdown. Some of the T2 classes have damage very comprable to the T1 dps classes... but was the general design of the system... Also, there's some other nuances to this... like predators have a little more flexibility in how they deal their damage, which a mixture of melee and ranged attacks, so this means they sometimes have to move in and out of ranged distance to use all their abilities, which is not always possible in some situations.

Class Overview (very general) There are 4 "Archetypes" Fighter, Priest, Mage, Scout Each Archetype has 3 classes, which each have 2 subclasses (so 4 archetypes times 3 classes times 2 subclasses is how you get to 24 "classes") Also, each Archetype has one "neutral" class, meaning these classes are not restricted to either FP or Qeynos Below - (N) = is a Neutral class (both classes can be in either city (G) is Good, must be aligned with Qeynos, (E) is Evil, must be aligned with Freeport Fighter Warriors (N) - Guardians are more Defensive, Berserkers are more offensive Brawlers - Monks (G) are more Defensive and focus more on speed, Bruisers (E) are more offensive and focus more on big hits Crusader - Paladin (G) are Defensive, Shadowknight (E) are Offensive Priests Clerics - Templar (G) - Defensive, Inquisitor (E) Offensive Druid (N) - Warden Defensive, Fury Offensive Shamans - little different.. Defiler (E) is more disease themed, I'd say where Mystic (G) is more spirit based Mages Sorcerer (N) - Wizard is more elmental based and Warlock is more disease based Enchanters - Biggest noticeable dif is Illusionists (G) have a permanent pet that is a copy of themselves while Coercers (E) charm a mob Summoners - Necro (E) is more life/diseased based - undead pets etc. Conjurors (G) have elemental based pets (bugs at start) Scouts* Rogue - Brigand (E) more focused on mobs taking more damage, Swashbuckler (G) more focus on mobs dealing less damage Bard (N) - Dirge more melee/tank oriented, Troubador a little more caster oriented (both have buffs that help everyone though) Predator - Assassin (E) more melee damage with a few ranged, Ranger (G) more ranged focus with some melee *Biggest difference between Rogue and Predator classes is that Rogues have more utility/debuffs etc. where Predators are more about raw damage

@@ClassicEverQuest Thanks!! There's one other pretty cool feature in EQ related to the class overview. There is a betrayal questline where you can change your city from one side to the other. When you do this, you will have to change your class to match the other side. Although, If you are a neutral class, you can choose to change classes or keep the same one. Also, if you are a neutral class, you can betray and then go back to the same city again and use that process to change between the two neutral classes. Betrayal is a long process... takes at least 5+ hours to go through the questline and then build up your faction with the new city high enough to be offered the quest to get citizenship. @newspin2477 that sounds like a really cool feature. What's a perk of the home town? Is there some sort of origin spell or anything?
@SomeGuyFromUtah
@SomeGuyFromUtah 2 месяца назад
@@ClassicEverQuest Both towns have the same amenities, but extremely different vibes. Once you see each town you won't even wonder why some people would prefer one town over the other. Also, a lot of gameplay/quests etc revolve around the home city... like each town has 4 factions that give repeatable "writ" quests and you can do these quests to earn status with the town and guild XP. Status can be used to buy things... mostly house items or cosmetic... Crafting stations for your home are some of the best items obtained via Stauts (writ rewards give status).

@@ClassicEverQuest Originally I didn't want to play EQ2 because it felt like an identity crisis but after taking a break from both EQ1 and WoW alike, it actually felt kinda refreshing. Tarisland is a brand new game that I tried but it didn't hold my attention for super long. EQ2 feels fresher to me than a brand new mobile/PC crossplay MMO apparently.

@@ClassicEverQuestthat's correct. Ogres, Dark Elves, Iksar, or even any of the Neutral races. Make sure you pick Overlords Outpost to start in and you guys can all play together. You can play together as good and evil too, but that's especially hard before level 20 or so

Ok had to listen to this in bursts today since I ran local and had a lot more to do ... But just hearing the sound effects and background music is kinda making me want to play (in spite of the lumburg narrator talking to you like you're special needs). I'll see if this terr laptop can even run it with decent graphics settings

Yeah, it's only 1 server and it's "high" population. I think it's the most popular server they've ever had but it's only been out a week. I think people are hyped that there is no krono pay to win and it's supposed to be as classic as they can figure out. Nows definitely the time and that's why I finally took the plunge.
