Hey its Abraxias. Legit loved watching this! We know the inside and outs of eq so it becomes very repetitive watching and playing eq classic. This is a breath of fresh air watching you have no idea whats going on haha. thing about the spells is youll end up having several bars open to hold ALL of the spells youll end up having and spells are broken down to apprentice, adept and master. apprentice you learn when you level. adept III you can craft if you have the crafting skill and find a rare harvestable for that type. Such as if you mine a rock you can get a RARE ore from it which can be used to craft an adept spell. Master I are books found around the world usually off named mobs and master 2 are those special specific skills you see when you open your character development screen. Crafting is super fun and was better than the fighting in this game, in my opionion.

Niiiice, thank you! I actually got on for about an hour today and I found an adept back attack. Pretty cool. I heard the crafting is a really strong point for the game. It is a real breath of fresh air, hehe. There is something fun about adventuring in a new world but that still has ties to something familiar and loved. Can't wait for Kunark though either!

Some of those things you are noticing now that make it easy definitely does get harder later on. Regeneration is based on the quality of your food/water, and you access a new tier every levels. Also - with sprint, it's based on your power (mana/blue bar), so if you are out of combat and regenerating power it will last a long time... it does not last long at higher levels, and if you sprint while in combat you won't have the out of combat regen. (although being in or out of combat is also a little more complicated) Also - when you get a mini-ding your health and power fill up, so sometimes when you think the regen is good it's because you got a mini ding for killing a mob (at higher levels with much slower leveling, the mini-dings are much fewer and further between) There's also a whole skill uprade system... when you level and get a new skill it's "apprentice" quality. If you craft one with regular mats its "journeyman" quality. Regular "treasure" quests drop Adept quality (slight upgrade from journeyman, not massive). Rare harvests allow you to craft Expert (big upgrade from Adept) and "Exquisite" chests - boss mobs and pretty rare, drop "Master" level abilities.

Awesome. There is so much to learn about this game. More than I anticipated that's for sure and I think that's a good thing!

Someone else may have already mentioned this. There are solo and group encounters. Solo encounters are super easy, and basically any class can win them as long as they aren't much higher level. Group encounters are more difficult, and will provide more challenge - especially for a solo or small group. Overall, combat is much easier than in EQ1 where a basic yard-trash rat could kill you at even-con. There are challenges to be found in EQ2, for sure, but you have to look for them a little more than in EQ1 where they're everywhere. Combat is faster and easier - for which we have WoW to thank (or curse, depending on your preference). I prefer the slower combat of EQ1, but there are plenty of things I enjoyed about EQ2.

I have heard some things. I'm actually at the first group encounter to get out of the noobie zone now. Just waiting for the boys so we can take me out!

EQ2 doesn't have "XP Loss" but when you die you incur xp debt, which is a red mark on your xp bar and you gain 50% xp until it's done. Also - the game eventually does tell you where PoIs are at... maybe it didn't get added until the 1st expansion, I don't remember. If you want to really maximize your experience, there's an addon called EQ2Map and it not only adds maps to zones that don't have them, but it also puts marks on the map showing where quest givers, mobs, and that kinda stuff is located. It's a massive help, especially for zones that have no map inherently.
@ClassicEverQuest
@ClassicEverQuest 2 месяца назад
Oh okay. That sounds like a wow addon called questie. That's an interesting XP mechanic. Better than deleveling and not being able to cast your spells you just got, haha
@SomeGuyFromUtah
@SomeGuyFromUtah 2 месяца назад
@@ClassicEverQuest I know questie.. it's kinda like that, but not really... the way the game was built, dungeons and other zones didn't even have maps, but it allowed players to make their own maps, and that's what these are... once you get it installed (it was super simple and free) then it just makes the in-game maps so much better. It's not a big download and it's well worth it imo.

I made a ratonga brigand when I tried it out a long time ago, and I believe you get some cool stuff like a frontal stun, so you can run behind and backstab. It's pretty sick with some of the combos you can do! I remember thinking the abilities started to flow really well instead of just mashing buttons when they are up! Very cool change of pace from EQ1! Enjoying these videos a lot! Keep up with the cool uploads! 😁

Thanks! I think I have the stun now. I also think I got a little better hang of what eq2 is about by the end of this. Was really lost there for a bit.

For quest items like the hawk bait you can drag them to your hot bar and use them like an ability. Then right click on it to get the option to clear the hot key.

@sendrithrezzeur5845 at 1:35:57 you said it exactly. EQ was trying to make D&D into an online RPG. They didn't think about class balance. That is the secret sauce.
@ClassicEverQuest
@ClassicEverQuest 2 месяца назад
@johnsmith-od1cx I love this. When balance is the main focus it takes away from the fantasy of the game. Then you have games that are worried about balancing in PvP and at that point forget about it.

If I recall correctly, there are collections you can do on the starter island that actually give you decent xp and jewelry for low levels.

Alternate Advancement doesn't come out until I think the 2nd expansion, Kingdom of Sky, but since they built origins on top of the existing code there's some stuff that shows up for expansions that origins will probably never reach. I /friended your character in game.. would love to group up sometime! One other nice feature in the game is a mentoring feature, which means a higher level person can level down to someone else's level and give them an xp bonus (plus they are pretty strong when mentored down). If I ever catch ya online, maybe I could mentor ya and follow around a bit or I might have an alt in the level range (I'm leveling super slow, still at 12 right now).

Nice! Awesome, sounds cool! I'm going to be playing EQ 1 still as well so it will be slow moving on EQ2 but it would be cool to do those low level dungeons as a group

The race abilities you pick what you want from the list each 10 levels. The tradeskill and AA tabs will not be active on this server currently. AA's should come when the server unlocks Kingdom of Sky for the first 50.

On that quest you were struggling with.. .it wants you explore a bunch of places first (just by walking to them), and then after you explore those places you go to the last place and once you get close to the spawn point you get an update to kill her.... not too many quests are designed that way, and it's a poor design, but that's how that particular quest works... I think the defiler hadn't gotten close enough to all the update spots for the quest to update to the point to kill the npc.
@ClassicEverQuest
@ClassicEverQuest 2 месяца назад
I need to get better at seeing the quest updates. It doesn't throw it in your face bright and in the middle of the screen so I just need to train myself to keep an eye on the quest log. I think it's coming along. Need to get some more play sessions in.

Oooooof. This was a rough one to watch! You guys totally ran right past the ghost at least once! EQ2 tried to keep the vibe of EQ1 quests while making them a little friendlier with clearly defined goals spelled out in the journal. They still expect you to pay attention to the NPCs though. In the quest where you lured the hawks down with the bait rats the NPC told you to go west to Cliffdiver Canyon, and then the hawks were called Cliffdiver Hawks. They expect you to get more invested in the world building and the lore, and then they call back to it later. "Remember Cliffdiver Canyon from two quests ago? You need to go back there!" It's weird. It doesn't hold your hand 100% like a modern MMO, but it doesn't just shove you out into traffic on your own like EQ1 did either. It sits kind of in the middle. There's some cool stuff to experience still too. If you go back towards the beginning and keep clicking bee hives, eventually a Queen Bee spawns and she drops a statted dagger. If you kill enough of the cows in the cow pen a named cow will spawn. Lastly, you can go back to the assassin who gave you the quest to kill the hawks, and you can pick up more bait rats. If you go drop them on mounds of dirt you find around the island you can catch adult mole rats, and use I think five of them on the big hill near the cow pen to attract a named hawk.

Dang those are all wild little secrets. I'm definitely starting to figure out what the game expects of the players. By the end of the noobie zone I think I was have a better grasp on what's going on with this game.

Hahaha true. I'll be right there with ya. Freeport 3.0 we are still all low level. Only like 2 hours into the game. Maybe we can all meet up at level 5ish. There is a dinaly noobie zone quest that requires a group. We also looking to play somethin Sunday morning. Eq1 or 2 or whatever. I heard there are dungeons like Befallen that we can run around level 10 as a group in eq2
