You forgot to mention a pro: The bridge gives you perfect intonation up and down the entire neck (if you set it up right). That matters a lot to me, as I’ve had trouble with intonation due to the bridge, neck bend, and other factors in the past. Nothing ruins a good recording session like unfixable sour notes.
@Garflips
@Garflips 7 месяцев назад
But it only gives you perfect intonation if you set up your intonation by adjusting your saddles at the get-go. It's not an auto tune for every note, only for the open strings which of course is a great starting point. A true temperament fret job is really the only way to get perfect intonation.
@IKilledTheDodo
@IKilledTheDodo 7 месяцев назад
@@Garflips Intonation doesn't affect open strings, that's just regular tuning. And of course it's not auto tune, and neither is True Temperament. But Evertune themselves claim perfect Intonation, and that has been my experience as well. Literally perfect is impossible, but it it's close enough.

@@IKilledTheDodo I never said intonation effects open strings, but of course you set your intonation by using the open strings and the 12th fret. The Evertune bridge will help keep your guitar close to perfect intonation but ONLY if you start off in close to perfect intonation. Maintaining a constant string tension has nothing to do with the varying distances from frets to the bridge. Don't get me wrong, like I say, if you intonate your guitar very well and have the action so that you are not bending your strings sharp, then the Evertune's perfect tuning will help hold to that intonation. Believe me, I'm considering the Evertune on one of my guitars, but I sincerely do believe that this is a misunderstood topic. Could I be wrong? Well I'll need to see some charts and graphs. 🤓 I'm a player not a luthier, but I have built two guitars and refretted three because I'm pretty handy.

@@Garflips I agree with most of what you're saying, but pushing down on the strings does slightly change the string tension on a normal bridge, which I guess is how the Evertune helps keep intonation consistent. I absolutely agree that you need a proper set up for proper intonation, and for what it's worth, the ET is an excellent system for adjusting action and intonation. All I know is I have guitars that are impossible to intonate properly, where compromise is the only option. My ET equipped guitars, however, intonate properly, and every fret corresponds pretty much to the note they're supposed to. Besides, there's no better system for efficiency and reliability, so I highly recommend it :)

The biggest con it seems to me would be having more parts break and have to send it off somewhere. In a close second place is the thing that you mentioned as both a pro and a con: That no matter how hard you beat the strings it stays the same. If you really want to dig in and get some more crunch or chug it doesn't seem like it would let you unless you're right up against whatever zone it is where you can bend or maybe even into that zone.
@Raul1971xxx

For me, the only "con" is that there is not a Evertune tremolo.

Nice review. An addendum to the video could be close-ups of exactly what broke because that's something I didn't know could happen with the Evertune.

It’s pretty neat technology. But it’s not for blues style playing. Definitely impacts bending sttings. If you adjust tuner to get better vibrato/bends it will change string intonation enough to be a bit annoying.
@ChristopherOrth
@ChristopherOrth Год назад
You say that the Evertune takes away from the aggressiveness of your pick attack. Yeah, if the bridge is compensating to remove the attack envelope (no bends) then that will happen. I recently bought a guitar with and Evertune bridge, and I'm finding that even when I dial it in as close as I can for the zone 3 string bending, it still shaves off the first small bit of bend... which means all the subtleties disappear. If you aren't that kind of player, not an issue. But all that tasty stuff like subtle pulls on chords and such can be removed. I do love this guitar, and will most likely keep it, but it won't be the one I use for the more subtle stuff I want to play.

This bridge is definitely more geared towards rock and metal guitar rhythm players, and yeah you still need to bend a little bit more, however, if you go into zone 3 and back it up until it’s just a little sharp, and turn the tuning key down to pitch, you will be able to do very nuanced bends and vibrato with very very little attack sharpening, with the full benefit of perfect intonation and the fact that when you change a string when you go up to pitch it will be in the same sweetspot

When Andy James switched to the Evertune bridge back in 2017, he lost so much of his signature tone. The pick attack almost gone from his mixes. Could have been the pickups too, but the evertune surely didn't help. good review!

U talked me out of bothering going down that rabbit hole. Im not a tweaker and I like simplicity. Plus I always utilise the time it takes to warm up tube amps to tube up anyway. Give me a standard bridge with all the tone \m/

I had the same question. It won't, so long as you're tuned up towards the end of zone 2. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YtxpefXs4Jg.htmlsi=LXa46ZyEPHnaBb8V

Unless you play gigs on the regular, or go on tours...I don't think it's worth it...There's too many cons to this for studio recording and casual use at home or an occasional gig/session.

yeah, a little scary. maybe this guy tightened his strings way too hard and snapped the spring or something. its also fairly likely that the saddle got stuck, which is an easy fix. im pretty sure ola englund/solar guitars had a video on it.
