It's no secret that Austin Powers was inspired by (ahem, copied) James Bond. Here's every time Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery pays homage to (ahem, steals from) James Bond.

It’s mainly the earlier ones you want to watch for the references anyway - potentially the best ones!

This is why Mike Myers wasn’t in any movies from 1994 - 1996 because he was watching all these bond films in research for writing Austin Powers

The part where Vanessa knocks out Random Task with the Champagne bottle 🍾 is a reference to the scene in A View To A Kill (1985) where Stacey Sutton knocks out a henchman with her grandpa's urn ⚱ and Austin's bathroom 🚹🚽 fight with Patty 'O Brien is spoofed on Bond's train 🚆 fight against Red Grant in "From Russia with Love" (1963). But I love ❤ how great 👍🏻 of a job you did on the side by side comparisons, keep it up. Oh, and the intro is a reference to a hard day's night. Oh, and Austin hot tub scene with Alotta Fagina is parodied on the hot tub scene in "A View to a Kill" (1985) with James Bond and Pola Ivanova.

This was fantastic! I always try to explain the references to people and they always end up with a blank stare on their faces...now I can just show them this. Only one I think you missed was Austin’s frilly laced shirt being inspired by George Lazenby’s in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

@PalyHan
@PalyHan 3 года назад
Well put together, i felt two things left out: 1- Dr. Evil's sign is probably inspired by how Largo kisses the Spectre ring in Thunderball after killing one of his henchmen 2- A really obvious sound reference in the soundtrack is the "action" theme that plays in the steamroller scene and other fight scenes in the movies, it's way too close to the "007" battle music track in From Russia With Love and other early bond films (Heavy brass followed by that whistle)

Being born in 1966, I of course, never saw all of the James Bond movies. Probably only about five of them. I knew Austin Powers was a spoof of James Bond movies, but now it makes so much more sense, and it's just so much more funnier. Brilliant.

Amazing how you can still enjoy the Austin Powers movies without getting any references from the James Bond movies, the movie still works without you knowing the references, knowing the references is just the cherry on top, with that being said on the other side of that I have never seen a James Bond movie and I don't know if I could take them as seriously as they're supposed too knowing that they have been parodied in the Austin Powers movies lol 😂🤷😁

Great work! Been rewatching older Bonds lately and thought to myself, I wonder what movies inspired Austin Powers. The makers of the films must have spent so much time watching the movies and taking notes. Thanks for these videos, it must have taken many hours to watch the movies and edit the clips. 👍

I’d also add in that Austin pumping Random Task was similar to Bond twisting the cloth on the sumo wrestler in _The Man with the Golden Gun_ to stress his Johnson!! which also ended in a konk to the head for someone from behind.
