@@RichWhiteUMthey were on closed circuit TV just like the first Mania....to say Starrcade was a territory show means that the first Wrestlemania was also simultaneously a "territory" show. The WWF was no more "national" than JCP in '85 pal. You're mistaken while thinking your insightful. Mark.
@vampirascoffin870 Not really the Cena Era. He took many L's which ppl really gloss over. And in retrospective, quite a lot of the Reign of Terror was actually a blessing in disguise. Plus, if the RoT was not under an effective heel, the wins of HBK at Survivor Series, *redacted* at Mania 20 and Batista at Mania 21 would've been flat.
WCW in 2000 did give us one thing that, to me at least, is incredibly underrated: the Triple Cage. I genuinely think either WWE or AEW need to bring it back one day, with the right talent and booking it could be great. Give me more ridiculously big cage matches in wrestling.
With the right wrestlers involved it could be amazing. I think it should be AEW that does it, since very few in the WWE could make it work. Maybe do the Blackpool Combat Club vs Christian, Nick Wayne and Luchasaurus.
WCW was actually improving in late 2000 and into 2001. It was from around the middle of the year in 99 until around the middle of 2000 when WCW was a bit of a mess. Things seemed to get a lot better around the time Scott Steiner became world champ, he had a really good run at the end of WCW.
I was at Fall Brawl, it was a lot better than I expected. The spot that caused Orndorff's career ending injury didn't seem that bad, but maybe it was a cumulative effect due to many years of taking bumps.
Charlotte (age 7) was at Starrcade '93 to support her dad in ... *checks notes* ... a retirement match. Technically, that makes her part of a very small number of wrestlers to be "in" a main event at a WCW Starrcade and a Wrestlemania. Very technically.
I doubt that they actually watch every ppv and every match 😂😂 some of these gotta come from what they seen from cagematch or w.e. online websites that rate matches
@@yeahyeah8439 This is the channel that has ranked every match in Mania history and every Big Show heel and face turn. I won't be surprised if they rank every match in Raw history.
I love that there's so so so many times that dirtsheets used the phrase "Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion" in their headline when referring to David Arquette but not by name
As someone currently doing a WCW 2000 watch, I am shocked you found anything good in those 12 months. You could do a "Worst Nitro 2000" show and never run out.
You really gotta hand it to WCW in the year 2000. They had two weekly shows, and 12 PVPs that year. And they somehow made every single show look exactly the same.
After the WWE PPVs ranked from worst to best was done and dusted. This would be the logical step forward and I am totes up for that. The thing about WCW in 2000 is that after hearing from almost everyone that it was bad. You let your curiosity get the better of you and watch a few shows on the network to see how bad it was. Personally, the best PPV from the last 15 months of WCW was Greed (An ironic name tbh).
@@shubhanshi9042 The point is more that at least in 1995 you had two big companies who could give fans a viable option/alternative. WCW's absolute bollocksery they put out in 2000 essentially sealed their fate and gave us nearly 2 decades of WWE as the only major (in terms of US/global markets, that is) wrestling company. Not shitting on smaller companies or TNA, RoH, NJPW, etc but in terms of global marketing/appeal, none came close to what WCW had as competition to the WWE. (But aye, 1995 was shite all round...)
Its like u read my mind I’ve been looking for videos about wcw in 2000 bash at the beach is so memorable to me I will call it my favorite wcw thing ever because I never watched wcw at all that much things that happened in those times were soo hilariously random
These guys spent about 36 hours watching 2000 WCW pay per views. I don't care what the video looks like. They deserve a like for submitting themselves to that hell for our amusement.
I suppose they couldn't have done a WCW version of those 'Worst WWF Matches of [insert year]' videos they've been doing recently because this video would have been about twelve hours long.
I paid 29.95 to watch Mayhem 2000 live on ppv 23 years ago. The opening bout having been "Above Average" Mike Sanders vs. Kwee Wee immediately caused me to have diarrhea and I swear I saw the 29.95 floating in my stool.
The guys who ran the network hated pro wrestling and that had more to do with WCW's demise than anything. They wanted it gone when it was "good". They wanted it gone when it was profitable. Ted Turner not having he shares was the end of WCW. That being said, WCW did produce some stupid stuff in the last years.
Not really. First of all, the reason why Russo was there in the first place was because that ship was already sinking hard in 1999. Secondly, Ted Turner was no longer in charge anyway, meaning that WCW was left in the hands of people who simply couldn't care less about wrestling and were looking to attract a demographic that wanted nothing to do with wrestling anyway. Still, if Russo hadn't been there, then maybe the WCW name wouldn't have been so toxic, and maybe someone other than Vince would have bought the rights to it.
I'm pretty sure the only reason Kevin Nash just didn't go out and lay down in the ring every week in 2000 WCW was because of the obscene amount of money that WCW was vomiting all over him and the fear they might vomit less when it would come time for a new contract, which never came to be because the company ended before his initial 5-year deal signed in 1996 was up.
I’ve said this before about Vince Russo and I’ll say it again-Even though Vince bombed out at WCW I understand why he did some of the thing he did back then. WCW had old talent and needed younger stars so I get why he pushed Booker T and the other young guys. Also fans at that time wanted stuff that blurred the lines of Kayfabe and reality so I get why he did some of his wild confusing storylines
As a kid I loved WCW 99-2000 until their closing watched faithfully as much as watching WWF but damn now looking back I didnt realize how bad WCW had gotten since its 96, 97 days, I did hate jeff Jarrett was annoying seeing him champion lol
The Canadan rules match should be watched it is hilarious as the show is in Canada and every crazy heelish thing done to screw over Awesome is cheered by the crowd. And to put the cherry top that sundae Bret Hart comes out to congratulate Storm like a hero as the crowd celebrate which means they knew how the crowd would react... Why do that?
They shouldve did a gimmick similar to Goldbergs for Mike Awesome but as a monster unbeatable heel & have it lead to a big PPV match along the line..they didnt know wtf to do at this point, it was sad as a fan of WCW since 87
Unpopular opinion: I didn't think 2000 WCW was all that bad. Maybe that's just because AEW exists today, and by comparison it's a gold field. But I remember watching it back then and enjoying it.
WCW 2000 PPVs from Best to Worst: 1. Fall Brawl: 7/10 2. Starrcade: 6/10 3. Slamboree: 4.5/10 4. Mayhem: 2/10 5. Souled Out: 1.5/10 6. Spring Stampede: 1/10 7. Super Brawl XX: 0.5/10 8. Bash of the Beach: 0.5/10 8. New Blood Rising: 0.5/10 9. Uncensored: 0/10 9. Halloween Havoc: 0/10 10. The Great American Bash: 0/10
The closest to a YEAR of just crap with one great storyline was 2011 in WWE my god was it horrible… So when I think of people upset about modern wrestling in WWE under my man Triple H I just think how silly they are. So much better
I'd say 2010 was utter trash. 2011 was freaking genius in comparison. Atleast 2011 had Cena vs. Punk, Orton vs. Christian and the Daniel Bryan MITB run.
