The Boeing 767 is one of the most historic aircraft ever built, not just for Boeing, but the entire commercial aviation industry.
Its development was one of the progenitors for the middle-of-the-market sector which enjoys a unique popularity today. But the four decade old 767 systems are growing outdated and can barely keep up with modern standards.
However, some reports suggest that there could be some changes made to the 767 in future which would make it rival or possibly even surpass modern aircraft of similar size.
But if that does happen, every airline will beg for the new Boeing 767. Here’s why.

Don’t underestimate how the corporate culture “headquartered in Washington DC” will not achieve this. They don’t want to admit that engineers are as important as they are.

The 76 airframe with the 78 wing, engine, empenage and cockpit would be an amazing solution with off the shelf parts

When we think of an airplane niche, we do tend to think of fuselage diameter as the main characteristic, because it translates to how many seats across. And true, the 767 is the only seven-across around. We should also consider length, because payload is the thing. The short 787-8 (eight-across) displaces 767-300ER models so completely, and it is flying now,. Remaining interest in 767-200 capacities wane because-look over there-a 757 betweener (longer than -200 and shorter than -300) would have the right capacity, range and lower fuel burn compared to the hypothetical 767-engine-refit-if we could but find an engine. And there we have the crux of the problem. Both the Trent 1000 and GEnx are too big by a little, and too heavy by a lot for the 767. We have no engines at all in the 50,000 pound class, let alone with a modern 9:1 or 10:1 bypass ratios. Where we arrive... Damn math... The problem is not the size between we have, but the engine between we lack. Nothing comes within a nautical mile of the fuel-burn efficiency needed in the middle.

Forget the unclean design from the 737 max 7 and 10 waiting for certification, and go for a clean 767 design to get a future oriented product to be certified 😊

Well, the competitor to a "redesigned" 767 is the Airbus A330neo. So just putting stronger engines on a 767 and fighting the results with a MCAS- like software "solution" won't bring Boeing into the right direction. Trust into Boeing is used up.

The only way I will ever acknowledge that boeing even exists is for them to cease all business with south carolina, because I believe that is where all their problems are from.

They might come up with whatever kind of airplane, my trust in Boeing is fully gone. If it's Boeing I'm ain't going! That's what happens when you put greed over safety! 🤷
