I really appreciated that you mentioned the Zionist aspect of Gabrielle Zevin. a lot of youtubers promote certain books but don't mention this element and it's a shame. Great video ! 💌

Thank you for not supporting Gabrielle Zevin! It's been really bothering me how in almost every end of the year wrap up I've seen people talk about popular books by authors who support Israel, with no mention of it, even in the comment section...

I love Historical Romance so I squealed a bit when you said Diana Quincy. Her books are all about powerful and intelligent middle eastern & south east Asian women. You should check out some of her other stuff.

I read 89 books in 2023 and have many favorites! Of the ones you mentioned here, I’ve read VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE, LOVE, THEORETICALLY, STARLING HOUSE, and EMILY WILDE’S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES. In talking to some fellow author friends who are Type 1 diabetics and they told me they consider the rep in LOVE, THEORETICALLY to be harmful, which is really disappointing! Some favorite reads of 2023: - LUNAR LOVE by Lauren Kung Jessen (Adult Rom-Com) - WALDEN by Amy Berryman (a published play) - GHOST MUSIC by An Yu (Adult Literary Fiction/Magical Realism) - SONG OF SILVER, FLAME LIKE NIGHT by Amelie Wen Zhao (YA Fantasy) - DELICIOUS MONSTERS by Liselle Sambury (YA Horror/Thriller) - THE SEARCH FOR US by Susan Azim Boyer (YA Contemporary) - WHERE YOU SEE YOURSELF by Claire Forrest (YA Contemporary) - IF TOMORROW DOESN’T COME by Jen St. Jude (YA Speculative) - WHAT MY BONES KNOW by Stephanie Foo (Adult Memoir) - LOVE LETTERS FOR JOY by Melissa See (YA Contemporary) - OUT OF CHARACTER by Jenna Miller (YA Contemporary) - DISORIENTATION by Elaine Hsieh Chou (Adult Literary Fiction/Satire) - DAMNED IF YOU DO by Alex Brown (YA Horror-Comedy) - VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE by Isabel Canas (Adult Gothic Horror) - FOXGLOVE by Adalyn Grace (YA Gothic Fantasy) - STARLING HOUSE by Alix E. Harrow (Adult Gothic Fantasy) - THE UNMAKING OF JUNE FARROW by Adrienne Young (Adult Magical Realism/Sci-Fi/Time Travel) - EMILY WILDE’S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES by Heather Fawcett (Adult Fantasy) - BEING ACE anthology edited by Madeline Dyer (YA anthology of short stories by asexual authors; biased because I have a story in here!) - GREEN FUSE BURNING by Tiffany Morris (Adult Horror Novella) - WHAT THE RIVER KNOWS by Isabel Ibanez (YA Historical Fantasy) - DIVINE RIVALS by Rebecca Ross (YA Fantasy)

This is so impressive - it's so hard to sum up feelings about books like this, well done! My fave read of 2023 was Adrift by Brideau which I don't hear nearly enough people talking about!! a near-future story of a woman who wakes up alone on a sailboat in Haida Gwaii BC with no memory of who she is. There is just a note warning her to not look back. It follows her as she tries to figure out why her memory was wiped. Set against the backdrop of climate change, it's a clever and fresh take on the typical amnesia story. And the author works in climate policy so the projection of 12 years into the future feels all too real.

Omg the way I screamed at Gabrielle Zefin 😂 thank you so much for supporting Palestine and acknowledging problematic authors!! So many booktubers chose a book over their humanity 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I'm still waiting for the "character growth" in Dating Dr. Dil. That's one of the most misogynist books I've ever read. The book makes jokes about violence against women, and it's supposed to be a romcom?!?!?

@@mitchellbrenner6663 it’s in the video because she read it this year but she doesn’t want to review it because she doesn’t support the author. Her channel her rules. ☺️

Just seems it shouldn't have been in the list. Title of video doesn't say One Sentence About Author's Beliefs. I'm sure if someone did a similar video and said Throw this book out the window because we don't support Queers in this house there would be much more outrage.

@@mitchellbrenner6663 Being a zionist is not comparable to being queer. They are fundamentally two different things so your comparison fails.
