I just want to add the languages they are translated from in the order for my own future reference German Albanian Italian Portuguese Korean Italian Spanish Spanish Polish Russian(Ukraine author) Spanish Swedish Dutch
i bought western lane by chetna maroo because you recommended it and ive recently lost my grandfather and my mum read it before me and the meditation on grief resonated with her so much. she's not much of a reader she rarely finishes a book but she was really deeply impacted by the book. thankyou !!
So exciting to see so much representation from Latin America in this edition of the IBP!! with authors from Brazil, Argentina, Peru, and Venezuela.. 🥳 vamos latinos!
YES KADARE ❤ FYI He's been nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature 16 times and has never won. He's one of the greatest Albanian writers and if you want to read other works from him I suggest reading The Castle
Do you have another recomandation from an albanian writer that encapsulates the albanian culture as much as possible or presents as much history as possible?
@@biancamihaila8949 i'd say Broken April is quite interesting as it focuses on the Kanun an Albanian honour code more specifically in the book Blood Feuds, i wouldn't say its exactly about the culture but it is in a way idk how to explain but would highly recommend!
So happy I am finally seeing a title of Kadare in this channel! He is already a booker prize winner, so to us Albanians it is great news that he can potentially win the prize for a second time and turn a little bit of attention towards the culture of our small but very diverse country, albeit his book focuses on the Russian dictator Joseph Stalin. Kadare is continuously ignored in booktube, I wish more vloggers would read his masterpieces: "General of the dead army" or "Cronicle in stone" and maaany more.
The Crooked Plow will be the first one I pick up, very excited, and, it's available at my local library 😂 Also glad you're hosting it again, it was a blast watching the livestream (for the first time) last year!
Firstly huge congratulations on your news of hosting the Booker prize international sbow! Amazing! My cat loves the sound of your voice she keeps rolling over and looking at the video! I trust her judgement! I am so excited it sounds one of the best lists I've heard to date. The details I've heard a lot about but I seriously don't know where to begin!
The last two you introduced sound intriguing to me, especially The Details. Congratulations on your great news…I look forward to following along through this prize journey, and your presentation on the announcement day.📚❤️
Look forward to your review after you read them. The Details sounds very promising. Thanks, Jack, for another excellent video. Your passion and enthusiasm for books are infectious. Congrats for hosting the Booker Prize again. Won't miss it for dear life.
I'm so incredibly excited about these books and I love your announcement and how excited you are about them! Between these and the Women's prize for fiction I don't know where to start!
I'm Polish, so it was VERY exciting to see Urszula Honek among the nominees! I was also excited that it was the book that intrigued you the most, hahah. I will be starting with White Nights. But genuinely all of the books sound soooo interesting this year, I think it will be even more difficult than usually to choose the shortlist nominees and the winner. Also, I cannot wait for you to host the live stream. You did an incredible job during the Booker last year, and I'm pumped that you got picked again. Happy hosting and happy reading!
I loved hearing your thoughts on the booker prize but I'm much more interested in the international and I absolutly cannot wait to hear your thoughts!!
Can't wait to read0 Can't wait to read "What I’d Rather Not Think About"! So glad you are back to host the Booker Prize. Thanks to you previous ceremony was the best ever!
That's huge, Jack!! Congrats!!! ❤ I'm so excited to try and read it all!!! Last year I only read The Bee Sting but now I'm HOOKED to reading it all and making my own bets. Gotta start with Crooked Plow as it is from a brazilian author and I'm so, so happy for the brazilian (and Latino) representation!
Congrats, Jack! Enjoy being the host! And wow, "What I'd Rather Not Think About" sounds heartbreaking in such a fascinating way. I'll have to check it out.
Just saw the booker list on insta and i was too shock and excited to saw your vid notification😂 so here i am🏃🏻♀️ Edit: wohoo 🎉yayy!! You deserve it jack🥺❤️
Hi Jack, I read Veronica Raimo’s book and I loved it sooo much. Also, the origina Italian title is “Niente di vero” which means “nothing true” but Vero also is short for Veronica so it has a double meaning of “Nothing of/belonging to Vero (Veronica)”. Idk I just think it’s great because if you think about it, it’s almost auto fiction with an unreliable narrator. Cheers, byeeee
Jack if I can recommend you a book, please read The Mountains Sing. It’s a multigeneration story about Vietnam through out 20th century. It’s so impressive! It’s kinda like Pachinko, but about Vietnamese people.
This is definitely one of the best books I've read. I read it a few years ago and still think about it from time to time. I have recommended it so many times. Such a deep, raw, heartwarming, heartbreaking and impactful exploration of family, war, love, loss, grief, trauma and the distinctions of us vs them. Loved seeing someone mention it here.

@@aamnahere6250 I really loved this book and every time I picked it up I ended up crying. Only a few books in my life moved me this deeply. I’m so happy you’ve read it and enjoyed it too!!
I'm trying to learn German, so Kairo sounds the most intriguing since it's set in Germany. Every time I watch your videos, you remind me that there are people in this world who truly love their jobs and are passionate about what they do. It's such an inspiration.
Start with The Details! I hope you like it as much as I did! 😍I also heard so many great things about “what I rather not think about” but I think it will break me… putting off reading it because of the anxiety I think it might give me
Congratulations, Jack! I honestly thought you presenting on 'award night' was already a known fact, but I guess it just came from my assumption as you did such a good job with the booker last year.. anyways: well-deserved! 😊 I think I am going to start in my home country and read What I'd rather not think about (Waar ik liever niet aan denk) in Dutch. I actually mostly read English books, but this is a good incentive to read a book Dutch. In all honesty I still also have to read The discomfort of evening (De avond is ongemak), 2020's winner, which was also translated from Dutch.
Albanian here. So happy and proud of having Kadre in one of my favorite book prices awards. By the way, the way you pronounce Kadare, is very good! Lots of love Jack.
Intersting, I thought the books selected were books released over the last year but Crooked Plow has been around for a couple of years already... very famous here in Brazil and one of my favorites. Higly recommend it!!
Lots of interesting one, I think I'm most intriguied by Undiscovered and What I'd rather not think about. Crooked plow sounds interesting as well. Congratulations on hosting :)
as a Brazilian, seeing Crooked Plow by Itamar Vieira Junior on the list is simply incredible and heartwarming., so poetically written and representing beautifully brazils history
Crooked Plow (Torto Arado) is just gorgeusly written is portuguese. Itamar brings a mistic atmosphere by showing african-brazilian religious traditions, by talking about feminine strenth and people's exploitation. I'm so happy that brazilian current literature is getting reconized. (The brazilian cover represents the book better)
Domenico Starnone is so brilliant, started reading him when the rumours he is behind Elena Ferrante facade started and I fell in love with his writing ❤❤
Hey Jack!! This is sort of irrelevant but have you considered making a video about audiobook recommendations? You mentioned before that you listen to audiobooks as a quick way to read more on the go, and I thought I might get into it as well but I don't really know where to start...
Jack has two great Contemporary Brazilian authors. I am looking forward to seeing how Crooked Plow and The Dark Side of Skin will be perceived, considering it is so deeply rooted in Brazilian culture and history.
What id rather not think about sounds like a book I need to read. My brother died and also, my best friend ended his own life, but it’s been so long and I think it’s time I read a book like this. Im also interested in Lost on Me.
