I feel like these designs are very strong! My biggest problems with the Michael bay designs were how cluttered and complicated the mechanics were, and the lack of color. It is so hard to tell who is who in a fight scene when it's just grey metal, sparks, and explosions. These designs are on that perfect line of complex enough to be realistic, but not so complicated it becomes confusing. I love em! I think if more movies come out with this style and care transformers live-action will really improve!
@@h2osavage693 it's not even a joke though. He LITERALLY looks like a Dorito with chicken legs and a bug face with arms. Like, who thought it was a good idea to make him look like that?
I just wish bumblebee looked like Cliffjumper, it would’ve been way more accurate. Optimus Prime is hands down my favourite Bee Movie design, if not my favourite Optimus design of all time only just beating G1.
I think a real good point about Starscream and the seekers not mentioned is that their alternate mode in Bumblebee looks like the triangular pyramid shaped planes from the very first episode of Transformers G1
One of the design aesthetics I really like about Brawn is that he looks like a juggernaut whether you're talking about the X-Men character with the really big dome bucket helmet or like a juggernaut from call of duty that armor comes up around his neck and head. I think that is such a nice touch to the camp because he was always this little guy who was way stronger than he appeared.
“Decepticons, Atttaaackkk” “Ravage, Eeeejjjjectttt” My god, it’s perfect, perfect, every single bit. The sound design is on point the model design is on point, nothing gets better than this, The best live action transformer design to this date(the design that brings tears into your eyes)
@@katie6666 Well he won't be 100% looking . These designs aren't 100% either you can see some influence of the Cybertron games and some influence from the other films . And he won't be a gun either, I think he would be a Tank .
@@WhyTho525 I mean I know he won't be 100% g1, but I hope that his overall design takes more inspiration from war and fall of cybertron, just my personal preference, and speaking of vehicle modes i want Megatron to be a triple changer, I know this highly unlikely but still it would be cool for Megatron to be both a tank and a jet
@@katie6666 Yeah I would love to see Fall of Cybertron-like Megatron on the big screen . He kinda reminds me of Thanos in Avengers Infinity when he wears his golden armor .
I still wonder why it was so difficult in the Bayformers movies to capture that original vibe. It was cool that they changed them, but it never felt like transformers, especially with Megatron. Then this movie came in and blew me away when it started. Then you hear the true Soundwave with his Iconic voice and Ravage comes out. It was so well done.
they had probably believed it was impossible by merely getting this pessimistic approach for "Alien Realism" but what i know is that even Aliens have society and character, and it was a pure waste to make the decpticons look like growling werewolves while only the autobots that looks like "normal" But now in bumblebee, the baddies were finally gets their spotlight and their character in perfect! From Blitzwing's cruel humor to Dropkick asking why Bumblebee isnt fighting back
I like that they changed everything to respect the originals but still kept a lot of design cues from the other movies. Like bumblebee, his face is honestly way better in the movies and gives him a much more unique personality and I’m glad it was kept for this movie
@@Jazz-cd5mu honestly the first movie was the only bay movie that had a lineup of at least decent to good looking cons...after that, both sides took dips in design especially the cons...though they didn't get overall better until after the original trilogy ended
@@AgentZombie6021 what i was saying was the bots always were atleast decent while the cons didnt overall start looking good til after aoe though the lineup from the first movie for both sides were pretty good
After seeing you put Optimus to the 3rd place, I knew immediatelly the 2nd will be Shockwave and you put Soundwave as the best looking one. Your whole ranking is perfect. I can't add anything to it. ;)
Blitzwing is easily the worst, why? Because he looks nothing like Blitzwing (not triple changer, no purple and cream color) and more like either a generic seeker or Starscream. And the best G1 design goes to every single Autobots and Decepticons in the first 5 minutes of the movie.
Kratos Well they can surely retcon that generic seeker from being Blitzwing so that way, We can see a more G1 accurate Blitzwing down the line in future films.
Honestly when I saw the movie I didn't even attached Blitzwing to him cause to be honest, they never said his name, I like to think of him more as just a random seeker that found bumblebee and then once they fought it was over and that was it
Agreed, he wasn't the leader he was in the previous ones. He was a literal jerk who didn't give a darn on what happened to humans, that's NOT how Optimus is. That's one reason I hate those movies
laserbeak, Prepare for flight, Destination Iacon, Operation assimilation. Sound wave will always be the best Deceptacon because he got the job done no questions asked.
I hate that they wasted blitzwing like that. He was a triple changer and didn’t become a tank. Why have the main baddies triple changers if you’re gonna kill the most famous one and make ransoms triple changers. They should’ve just made him hotlink or another seeker no one cares about.
I agree that Blitzwing's character was butchered by making him a generic seeker, but he was still a decent character for what he was. As for Soundwave, how is it not G1? It has more detail, sure, but not any more than literally everyone else.
Out of the things you listed, Design Wise only (AND NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE GENERATION 1)... 11. Wheeljack 10. Arcee 9. Ratchet & Ironhide 8. Brawn 7. Soundwave 6. Shockwave 5. Shatter 4. Bumblebee & Cliffjumper 3. Dropkick 2. Optimus Prime (Favorite Design for Optimus) 1. Starscream, Blitzwing, Seekers (Seekers are the sexiest things ever)
I kind of like soundwaves Satellite design but it would’ve looked better if it were more like the g1 design. Also a satellite is a very fitting alt mode for soundwave. Why they always turn him into a car always annoys me because that just doesn’t work for soundwave & most Decepticons in general.
As a Soundwave fangirl (though it is really the IDW comics that made me love him way too much), I have to say "Hell. Yea". I loved this design, it's Soundwave. That's that. There is only one other design that I liked for him, the one for the Transformers Prime cartoon, because that was also cool, and creepy, and it just worked. But Michael Bay's designs are far from being the spirit of the character. Not even a hint of it, really.
@@footlessmoonbadger7189 That's... debatable. Given that Soundwave has always been a spy/intelligence officer, giving him that drone alt mode was an apropos modernization of the character's concept. It suited him, and it did not overly-rely on the old Cartoon's liberal use of the "idiot ball". Because no offense, but in reality, once you know that someone on the enemy team can disguise themselves as an innocuous thing like a tape-player... you should become wary of "conveniently found" objects like that. I respect the evergreen, tape-player design, it's classic, which is why I love the Bumblebee movie design too... but I'm not so inflexible that I would condemn any and all "different" designs out of some puritanical obsession with the "evergreen". if you're going to modernize, as long as the design keeps in mind Soundwave's job/specialties... then I'd apply the "multiverse" clause and call it even. I've read enough Marvel/DC comics to be comfortable with multiverse chicanery. If you boil things down to the basics, there were enough similarities between the evergreen and the TFP to say that some semblance of the spirit was kept in tact.
@@CharlyDeamen thats fair. My comment was mostly bait. In my opinion the Bayverse version of Soundwave is also a pretty good modern update of the character. A communications officer/spy being a Satellite (at least in the second movie) is genius. I'm not saying the character was written well or anything but the character isn't far off from the G1 incarnation (excluding designs)
Love all the designs in Bumblebee, especially after all the years of watching Bay ruin so many of my favorite characters. I'm most excited to see combiners - especially Devastator. I felt disgusted when I saw how poorly Bay adapted him to live action.
Ok I am getting tired of people thinking that the G1 Transformers designs are the only designs for the movies. It's called an adaptation or incarnation of a design for a reason. It doesn't have to be exactly like the original design. To me I will always like the version of Optimus Prime from the first three Transformers movies because it's an update to the design not a direct replication to the original design.
I agree, but most people remember G1 over the movies, because the designs are more eye catching. Bay's Optimus and his Transformers is excessively detailed in a good and bad way, on one hand, they look pretty cool but on the other hand, they're *too* detailed particularly on the Decepticon side, where everyone sans Megatron simply looks like an amalgamation of metal thrown together. You can't look at the Bay designs and immediately tell who they are. This also makes the fight scenes in Bay's movies look disorienting, cause you dunno who is who. I don't even hate Bayformers but the designs for the movies are vastly inferior to G1 in terms of recognition. TF: Prime's designs is probably the best fusion of movie and G1 elements
I think the first film had the best designs for the robots. Maybe the other two. The last two I wish never existed. I like the alien Bayverse look, but they have too much going on.
'Adaptation or incarnation', there's a difference between adapting a character, and completely changing their designs, yes their are versions of the transformers in the shows where they don't resemble their g1 look, but their designs perfectly capture their personalities
I literally just watched bumblebee. I had to wait until it came out on DVD, I've had to avoid spoilers as much as possible (no matter how painful it was to do so), and I couldn't be happier. Amazing movie, definitely worth the wait. Also my favorite bumblebee design is shockwave. He's my favorite decepticon, and I agree he was perfectly captured in the few moments we got to see him.
My love of Soundwave would probably put him in top as well, but I actually think Shockwave is the defining design of that entire scene. He’s flawlessly regal, exactly as frightening as in my imagination. Love that sequence.
If you ask me, I CANT I simple CANT rank these designs....they are all BREATH TAKING BEAUTIFUL......but if I have a gun to my head and be force to rank at least my 3 favorites, will be: 1-Optimus (its officially my favorite Optimus design EVER now). 2-Arcee (I just love how beautiful she looks, she is like only for 5 seconds and I cant take that design out of my head) 3-Soundwave (did I need to explain why?....IS SOUNDWAVE.....he is always superior). But seriously all are amazing, if they dont continue making designs like this for what ever next film in the Transformers franchise, I will be terrible disappointing.
It's amazing how all of the characters got a less screen less dialogue than in the Michael bay films, and yet they are leaps and bounds better with just at least 2 seconds of screen time and at least 1 line of dialogue.
" *RAVAGER EJECT* " I swear I almost passed out of excitement when I heard that. They NAILED Soundwave. (He's my favorite transformer too so I'm happy he got the top spot)
What Travis Knight actually said: With the designs of the film, we wanted to make sure we've done something that felt more evocitive to the '80s Transformers designs at the same time these are characters that existed in the same universe as the other films so it wouldn't be such a departure where it felt like a totally different movie. Bumblebee has a look, we just bought that into the '80s and did some reformlution. God I, Austin Michael Lucas need to work on my spelling a little.
When I saw the movie and I saw this scene I was so happy when I saw the g1 looks instead of a newer look Like when I saw prime I was so excited and same with Shockwave Now we need to see what Megatron looks like
Most people forgot that almost all the G1 transformer are designed straight from their transformable toys (except Arcee, Ironhide and Rachet). Bay did not make them more "realistic", he just want to have his overblown edgy robots so he can bump them together for a bunch of braindead ducks to clap at them, like come on, how is the first thing come to mind regarding transformers is retractable piss pipes and wrecking ball testies? It's not hard to adapt transformers to live action, just go look at the toys, that's like half the work done and these designs proved it.
Liked the video, I like the Wheeljack design but he feels too short, like the legs are too small compared to the rest of him. I also don't care for the giant thighs most of them have(for example there's Shockwave and Arcee).
I think Soundwave should be a military communications vechicle . Megatron should be a Tank and Shockwave should have his alt mode from the Siege toy line .
12. Blitzwing 11. Brawn only due to lack of screen time 10. Starscream and seekers because we did not get to see more of what they can do. 9. Shatter I just did not care for shatter and dropkick 8. Drop kick higher then shatter because he made me laugh 7. Ratchet and Ironhide very G1 like 6. WheelJack mix of Prime and G1 5. Arcee huge improvement over revenge of the fallen 4. Bumblebee and Cliffjumper good design just wanted more Cliffjumper 3 Shockwave glad to see the proper hand cannon just with Corey Burton voiced him again 2. Soundwave love the look just need Frank Welker 1. Optimus Prime. The perfect homage to G1 Optimus Prime in every aspect. The voice, the vehicle design everything is spot on with him.
As a fan of Soundwave I was wondering who the satellite guy was in the movie and the executioner who was about to kill Bee and it was Soundwave just very disappointing but the bumblebee version of him is just too much badass design including the voice holy crap was he voiced by a robot damn I prefer this Soundwave than the other movies
When Soundwave dropped in it was a game changer! But Shockwave.. omg! The shockwave of those Thicc thighs thundering as he walks would be just terrifying! OP looked glorious and Bee was the kinda Bee I would want parked in my garage. I didn’t care for Arcee but yes way better then bayverse. I guess I was expecting more Prime Arcee. The rest were great and I’m hoping that the future movies will show all of this.
After seeing Brawn in the movies, I hope he'll be in future movies. Hopefully he didn't die from getting shot in the shoulder................... again.
