Spotting is done outside, dont stand under a climber in a gym when there are 2 meters in the air, they fall on and you both get hurt. People "spot" with a mat in their hands

Sand bagged/sand bagging is when a route is rated lower than you think it is, you go up to a crag that is rated 5.9 only to find that the person who rated it was a twat and it is much harder than a 5.9. Imagine it like you having to climb a 5.9 with a sandbag tied to your waist. A good excuse to stop climbing something without damaging your pride. Can be used in terms such as, "This one is totally sandbagged", "Yeah it says 5.9 but its really a sandbagged 5.11", "It's not my fault bro I was sandbagged'

One I recently learned is deadpoint, a technique where you jump for a hold without at least one foot leaving its starting position. It's a cousin of the dyno
@CatalystClimbing
@CatalystClimbing 3 года назад
Maybe it'll make the next video 😉
@maudglazbrooke1287
@maudglazbrooke1287 3 года назад
I've heard at least 3 different definitions of deadpoint. 1) you do a dyno with one point of contact left on the wall 2) you do a full dyno but catch the hold at the "dead point" of inertia where your upward momentum stops but gravity hasn't claimed you yet (think Wile E Coyote) 3) it's a controlled or semi controlled fall with one or two point of contact still on the wall, most sane application is going into a double hand-smear on a sidewall.

The essential word "dab" was not included! Also "sick dude" which is an expression when you watched too much Daniel Woods with your friends and you go climbing together. And maybe "backflagging" (a flag on the other side of the thigh) , "sandbagged grade" (a too low grade given by a climber who is not aware that after 2 years of campusing he is 5 grades stronger), "6a" (any boulder between 6a and 8c as a clever joke after sending it), yo there's a lot...

The opposite is called a dihedral :) but you'd spend more time trying to explain that terminology rather than climbing out of a corner or cave start
