The amount of work put into this video is insane. Love seeing all the different paints over Grey Seer, Wraithbone and Metal for those of us that don't prime white often. Never seen your channel before but I immediately subscribed and will be checking out more.
I was dying to see what all the contrasts look like and I can't believe I stumbled upon this video... this is EXACTLY what I needed to see to know what to buy. And the fact that you did them all on different base coats... masterful. THANK YOU
Fabulous video, thanks Naomi! You're the first person I've come across who whacks them over a metal model, that was super helpful because I freaking loved some of the colours over metals and was so-so over "normal" undercoats!
I love your channel, it's right to the point with a set up regular hobbyists use. I found your channel when i was trying to figure out how to paint my space marine paints and models set, 7 months and far, far too many models later your hobby videos still have a clear and grounded feel. Keep up the great videos: )
Thank you so much ! I sadly dont have the option to purchase directly from you but, I truly appreciate you showing the colors so I know which one to get, and which ones I would probably not be happy with. Its otherwise hard to find good pictures which show the real colors on the monitors I have and I wasted money in the past cause of it. Keep up the good work !
Thanks Naomi, that must have a lot of work! The new Contrast paints look awesome, although some seem a bit bright and more opaque that the old paints. Like the red, which looks amazing on your nails btw. So I’m looking forward to see how you use them, in future builds and videos. Happy (belated) Canada day!
Wouah! Good job for this presentation of all new contrast paintning. The fyreslayer contrast is cool ^^ I like it Thanks Naomie for this video ^^ Good luck
Videos like this are so, so useful for those of us new to the hobby who might not be able to predict what paints will look like in combination with one another. I'll definitely refer back to this next time I go to buy contrast paints. Thank you!
This is so incredibly helpful!! I love the contrast paints but I hate not knowing how drastically differently theyll work from one another when trying to pick out what to buy. Was looking for Briar Queen Chill specifically for possibly using on my Nighthaunts. Got this video favorited and will share with all else that need to see some examples before buying :) Thanks so much for the video!!
I think I'll be referring to this video a million times over, thanks for the great comparison! I might need to use karandras green over grey seer for my new Salamanders army...
Hi Naomi, any chance you could put together a document with pictures of all the contrasts over the different base coats? That would be such a handy reference! :)
This is like the best video I've ever seen, it's like a god video and it full of so much information. That's like a monetized videos likes it's worth something I'm my.opiniom hopefully someone covered God when I was preoccupied with other things.oh by the way your nails I like them to their amazing 😍. Wraithbone is is the main paint for my.necrons and I want to see what seraphim sepia looks like over wraithbone oh and currently I have no control over the currency maybe next cycle I'll have control.
Striking Scorpions Green looks like a great way to do quick glow for Necrons. I really don't like Tesseract glow that much, it seems a bit too yellow for me.
I need to ask, what exactly was the metallic paint you used here? Looks very good. Thank you so much for going through all this trouble, this is incredibly useful.
Any suggestions on a contrast version of Wraithbone? Looking for an "ivory" or marble color, similar to what you'd see on Junith Eruita's pulpit. The whites and greys aren't brown enough, and Skeleton horde is way too brown.
Hmmmm, I'll have to try it out, but looking at Junith Eruita's ivory, I'd think a 3:1 mix of Guilliman Flesh and Dreadful Visage, thinned down with Contrast Medium so to build it up evenly, may make a similar colour... And then picking out the details with a mix of thinned Wraithbone & previous mix, then edged with just Wraithbone or Wraithbone & white. I'll have to paint something ivory soon to see how that might look but that should be pretty close. :)
Found the dark elves skin tone i've been looking for. Space Wolves Grey over grey seer. Only one problem mine is navy while yours appears to be purple. Does it look the same in RL as it does in the video?
Yes, mine looks the same in real life as it does in the video... But if you want it a touch more purple, you could add a hint of Leviathan Purple to the mix. That purple is potent so not very much, perhaps a 8: 1 or 10:1 ratio of Space Wolves Grey to Leviathan Purple, but that might hue it toward what you were looking for! :S
@@swordnsteele712 Was looking at Shyish Purple which probably would have pushed the hue in the wrong direction. Buying colors that never get used really doesn't make the set any better. Worse actually because they could have been useful picks instead. Thanks! Your help is always much appreciated.
Hmm I would say Doomfire Magenta, very mildly tinted with Luxion Purple, thinned down with Contrast Medium, over white that is pre-shadowed by a pastel pink 🤔
Can Kontast colors be mixed together? e.g. black and dark blue to get an even darker contrast blue... a color like Deadly Nightshade? If that were possible, I would probably use it for my Tyranids of the Hydra hive fleet - otherwise I would probably never be able to finish 200 Hormagants and Termagants.
Sorry Naomi but as I have 2 full carrier boxes of Vallejo paints , including what was new Dust colours that change due to the light - do not think at this stage I'll be bothering with any more Citadel paints, even though one or two look impressive.
You jave to try the contrast paints... I would suggest just applying snakebite leather over an offwhite just to get a feel for them, they are in their own catagory of paint. As someone who has the entire Vallejo range, i still must have every contrast paint.
to bad i wouldrealy wan t to see how does it look when the paint is not air brushed on metal , because i dont use airbrush but i does like puting contrast on metal a lot
any tips on getting back to painting . I lost my mojo after being ill for a few months. I need to base my necrons and paint larger necron models and I got a small tyrannid army undercoated. I just can't get my ass into gear 😒
Have you decided what colour scheme your Tyranids will go? :) If you can pick out the paints to do that and paint one model as a prototype, it might bump you towards doing more. 🤗
I didn't thin any of the Contrast paints :) And to transfer them to dropper bottles, you don't need to thin them at all But I do suggest adding at least one agitator (The Army Painter mixing balls in particular) so you can shake it up and then pour it out. Otherwise you may miss the heavier particulates! Good luck :)
They don't cover over black at all. The brighter one, Luxion Purple, may leave purple in the crevices and the black could have very slight tones of purple, but it wouldn't be too evident 🤔
@@swordnsteele712 I primed black but have since changed how I wanted the paint the carapace of my tyranids but I really like how the flesh turned out I was curious if it would give the black primed carapace a glossy purple accent or if it wouldn’t show up at all
