It's only underrated by those who haven't seen it. Anyone who's seen it rates it as one of the best crime dramas they've ever seen. Personally it's my no.1, followed by Irish gangster saga Love/Hate.
Dave was a badass, he also had one of the more realistic deaths I have seen in media. Too many shows and movies brush off shoulder wounds like they're nothing serious.
God this show the ending rays psychopathic stare in the camera with a smile just told the viewers that you know what happens next like him saying they fukd around and they absolutely going to find out
I’m on a rewatch of the series and literally _just_ watched that episode. I was silently ugly-crying during that final scene and it took everything in me to keep it down so my neighbors wouldn’t hear me. And I’d like to remind everyone here that that _very same episode_ opens up with one of the funniest sequences in the whole show, the bit where Ray and Dave are trying to find the President in the woods and find Gary instead. Yet somehow it doesn’t feel like tonal whiplash in the slightest. One of the most magical things about this series, really.
Dirk dropping over that cliff edge tops it for me. He was troubled, and could only see one way out. It’s all about the calmness of the lead up conversation, he falls back, and then thats it 🤷♂️
Great editing👍 The Patchett gun was cool. The last two guys were in question because the creator said he killed off Ray, but like you, I think he killed the punks. Ray's devilish grin said it all.
@@AilxoNah, Gary say's its a Patchett, but you can see the bayonet lug on it, so its a Sterling. Ray just doesn't correct him, though he identifies it correctly as soon as he sees it.
so in reality , the Sterling or Patchett SMG was a design based around the Sten originally prototyped under the name Patchett SMG towards the end of WW2. because the english army had so many Sten guns in reserve , they didn’t contract more Patchetts until a later military trials was held , in which the Patchett won the contract , was refined with notes & suggestions from the trials , and fully integrated into British military service as the Sterling SMG circa 1955. the Patchett is just a prototype Sterling SMG.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was sure those two amateurs in the last episode never drove out. I read somewhere that total creative control was demanded and approved. This will be appreciated 50 yrs from now as classic television.

I wouldn't add TWD unless your talking the first couple seasons. It just took worn out after that, and over saturated with nonsense and garbage. Banshee on the other hand, great show!
Not to sound crazy, but benny and dasias scene really was relatable, anyone ever tried anything with my child I would leave that room with their eardrums in my stomach

This was a good show. Not just action; the main character was interesting and likable. The writing was good. Whenever he does that smile, it's over over the other guy.
I think graham is my favourite, its at a point where its all out of the blue and even ray seems to be at an impass, like he knows what to do still but doesnt want to anymore
the best australian show. its a shame the actor wanted to move on to something else but he has been playing the character since like 20 years ago when him and the producer made a short film about ray shoesmith.
Not continually. The short film was meant to be a pilot to shop for a syndication deal. It was shelved for years until FX Australia finally picked it up.
When I Watched Bruce Go Out It Broke Me. Truly You Have To Have A True Life Experience Similar To The Things That Happen In The Show To Truly Understand. I Found My Little Sister Killed at Home When She Was 18 and I Was 21. No One Understands That Pain & What It Takes To Get Through It Until You Done It. And I Can Tell You Now Scott Ryan Has Some understanding Of What It Feels Like. One Or My Favorite Shows Of All Time Truly.
I think in the last episode in the final scene the victim was Ray. He was already very lonely and resigned and wanted to end up like that. Very good film, it's a pity it's so short.

You'd probably be surprised where some of this show's inspiration came from. Australia literally had a contract killer known as Mr Rentokill, his actual murder number is unknown. The 80', 90's and early 2000's, underworld murders were almost a weekly occurrence, most the time it wasn't the police who stopped a killer, it was a different contract killer.
