I am a huge Haunted Mansion fan and coincidentally I just saw this movie! I caught some of these references but I can’t believe how many there are and how many you guys caught. You guys are awesome lol!
You missed the doors as well. In the ride and in the movie, the doors sometimes expand out towards you like it's made of rubber and something is about to burst through it. And then there's the bell reference that leota sites in the ride when she says "Wizards and witches wherever you dwell, give us a hint by ringing a bell." They used the bell when Ben was in the paranormal world to bring him back. And then the trees with scary faces that come to life in the yard and try to get the trio when they escape to Crump mansion are a reference to the trees you see in the ride with scary faces and branches that look like they're reaching for you.
You missed the Rolly Crump chair aka the Face Chair. In the movie it is in the seance room, but in the ride it's next to the Endless Corridor. Also there's the Hatchet Ghost from the Corridor of Doors as seen in a series of portraits in the movie. The raven, which was an important character in the Haunted Mansion record album from 1969 and is seen throughout the ride, is also in the movie. The portrait of April December is the one behind which is the tunnel to the seance room. I'm sure there are more, as I've only seen the movie once (so far), and there's so much detail! Thank you for this video! Hurry baaack!
They mentioned the face chair. They just didn’t show it. The Doom Buggy chair is called a Versailles chair. And I’ve been saying for YEARS that this is what the ride needs to update itself to!
There are much more subtle Easter Eggs in the movie too. For example, in the very last scene of the dining room party, the image slides to the right with a black color filling the frame to replace it. This is very similar to how the same scene in the ride leaves our view, as the ride vehicles travel to the left and the view of the dining room disappears to the right from the rider's point of view.
Good movie! Sad that they pick the worst time to release it, I love the ride and want more Haunted Mansion films to explore the lore and even other mansions like Phantom Manor
You guys are great! So many wonderful tidbits. The one I did notice that you did not point out, when you were referencing the chairs, is that Ben sits in the Roly Crump chair is a the top of the staircase in the ride, to the left of the entrance of the great hall where the floating candelabra is seen. You pointed out so many wonderful easter eggs. The film is a love letter to all of us "Haunted Mansion" ride, fans. I've seen it twice, and I'm going to go again. Thanks again, for your great video.
At the end when Ben returns to the house, one of the pumpkins 🎃 is carved with the famous Haunted Mansion wallpaper. And when they go to Crumps mansion and asking Winona Ryder’s character about the cane, you’ll see a haunted ghost bride bust that’s sold at Michael’s.
I got to watch it on Sunday and I loved it I really loved how they had every Easter egg in the movie but sadly they forgot to put the singing busts in the movie as well
At the climax when the Hatbox Ghost is tempting Gus at an open grave , it reminded me of the Phantom at the Phantom Manor when he laughs maniacally standing next to an open grave.
A strange fact is how the movie treats the hatchet bride as a separate character to the stretchroom portrait old lady who killed her husband George. It is officially part of the lore that Constance the hatchet bride is in fact the old woman in the stretchroom portrait. The proof is in the attic scene, the last wedding portrait is of her and George before his head disappears.
We were waiting for a Phantom Manor reference but didn’t spot any either! The only thing we think could be a slight nod to the Phantom Manor is the name of Crump Manor. Thanks for watching!
@@mawatzi I thought that too! I guess the ride does have a lot of similarities! Maybe we’ll get a phantom manor movie one day considering it has a completely different storyline. That’d be fantastic!
Probably trying to avoid spoilers, but you glazed over the stretching room details. I didn't make the connection at first, but the alligators, quicksand, and dynamite were homages to the paintings in the room. I also wonder about the busts in the movie. I can't wait to own the blu-ray to get a good look at them.
The one I’m not sure if it’s a reference or not is, when the characters are driving away from the house near the end, one of the trees looks pretty similar to the ones in Snow White’s Scary Adventures.
I'm not just impressed that they may do. The hatbox ghost who in the ride, was more of a minor character or antagonist, but instead they made him the main antagonist in this movie, and I was really impressed that they were introducing some true villainy back, I mean, yes, I wouldn't say hes the evil list, but this is some greater villainy. And hes far from the bottom of the list. The villains
We loved the character of the Hatbox ghost! It’s Casey’s favorite Haunted Mansion character! 👻 We think they did a great job with making him the main antagonist.
I needed to ask a question in case someone knew, why was the stretchroom area in the mansion a safe haven? The ghosts left anyone in that room alone for some reason. I was waiting for an explanation but they never explained it.
We assume the stretching is home to the ghosts and things in the portraits. That’s most likely why it was an okay place to stay in but later in the film the portraits caused the room to come to life with the things inside. Not entirely sure though.
And the characters passed through some sort of magical membrane at the top (like the scrim in the attraction) that revealed the rafters… and somehow let them out onto the roof. But there was no Gracey skeleton hanging (which is the entire reason for the scrim and rafter-reveal in the first place)! I thought maybe they wanted to shy away from suicide in a kids movie. But he still does commit suicide. By drinking poison. So why not just show a skeleton in the rafters???
They added all of these things which was pretty cool but in my opinion it was still a terrible movie. I would much prefer the Eddie Murphy version over it, even though that version had no hatbox ghost. I still enjoyed watching the remake for all of the Easter eggs and stuff but will I watch it again? Probably not...
