None of the pokemon that learn fly by leveling up are birds, and there are a lot of dragons, a couple bats and bugs, random deities, and a jet-propelled clay statue mixed in with the birds that learn it through an HM. While all bird pokemon can learn it through an HM, it could be argued that it's too generic of a flying thing to be in the "things that birds do" category for the same reason the flying type was too generic to be named bird type when the first games were released. For oblivion wing, I definitely agree with you. The only thing that can normally learn the move is a bird, but it isn't a very bird-like thing to do. The closest I can think of is vampire finches pecking larger birds until they bleed and drinking their blood, but that's only a survival technique used when actual food is too scarce and isn't exactly the same as a bird spreading its wings to fire a beam of energy that siphons life from anything it touches. I also don't think birds would normally hit things with their wings or throw their feathers. I'm pretty certain they mostly use their beaks and talons to fight. Wing attack is basically just a slap with a limb that specifically developed to have high air resistance (which causes a lot of the force of the attack to be wasted on pushing air), and I don't think they even have a good method to throw feathers after plucking them.

If Lockstin really thought that way he should've called the category something else or made it more clear what he meant with that category, cause it's clearly not working out. Also yes ofc birds won't attack anybody with magical gusts of air or magically throw their feathers at them, I thought that was quite obvious....

@@regigigas502 she* and i was referring to Ash's Swellow in particular, which was commonly seen using aerial ace. I can even recall an episode specifically dedicated to Ash training his Tailow how to use aerial ace.

@Ice Signature move doesn't need to be learned by only one Pokémon. For example, Muddy Water is signature move of Swampert and many other Pokémon can learn it.

For aircraft, it's called Aerobatics. Personally, what I want for a Flying Type move is one called "Split-S", which is just Flying Type U-Turn. Seriously, it's exactly what Bird Pokemon like to spam already, just give them a STAB version!

It’s still a bird it’s a chicken so it’s not flying type but because it’s a bird it can learn those moves. Torchic can learn Peck!

That's a misconception, Flying Press is a Fighting type move, that also deals Flying type damage, there's no actual dual type move in Pokemon, Flying Press is listed as a Fighting type move, it only has a special property.

@@Dexuz That's literally what I said, it's a fighting type move, but also using the flying type to calculate damage. So imo it should have been mentioned because it has that aspect and is a unique situation so far.
