Couple of corrections, I figured I wouldn't get everything right: Aurorus' verification was of a noclipped recording due to the original being claimed to have been done off-recording, although this was still proven to be hacked and thus would still invalidate said verification. WcropoliX was not remade by Blass specifically but by KeyDashMaster once again, so a small inaccuracy on my part. Slaughterhouse was indeed verified by someone before Abyss of Darkness, so my point at the start of that segment is completely redundant. It would seem that players view VSC to be harder than Slaughterhouse hence the absense of it here, which take that as you please, it is a subjective list put together by a group of people. I've seen a couple of people mentioning SonicBath which yea fair, I suppose I missed that one even though much like InvisiBath which I removed from the list are horribly irrelevant. They don't really add anything to the list so while I am annoyed to have missed a level, SonicBath wouldn't add a single thing to this list's impact in the end, much like CataBath they are pathetically boring to talk about.

Something I always found lame about these lists is that it would always go something like demon park, then to the grave, then the hell world, silent club, etc. and a whole era of legit play was never shown. Really glad you showed the real progression of skill

The funny thing with Blind Blizzard and Sightless Sandstorm is that I didn’t intend to beat the hardest levels at the time, I was just pushing myself because I genuinely enjoyed playing them. It’s incredible to be in a video like this, and I want you to know how much I appreciate you including these two levels. The one thing I’ve wanted to do in this community is give people hope that they can achieve anything that they put their mind into, whether that would be in-game or IRL. I hope both of my invisible verifications convey that.

6:55 I vividly remember the single character bug happening in a later update, probably in 1.5 or 1.6, so it's very likely the bug wasn't originally patched for everyone. Changing the keyboard on the Android phone I was using back then seemed to fix it, meaning it's probably not *really* a GD bug, but I don't think it's unlikely others suffered from this. If you played Geometry Dash on a Samsung Galaxy S3, you'll probably know what I'm talking about. Edit: There's a massive difference between 'invisible' and 'invincible' 🙂

Slight potential correction: it is actually unknown is Cyclic actually hacked Cataclysm as there is nothing suspicious that has been found and it’s thought that the reason why Cyclic confessed was that he felt guilt due to his definitely hacked levels (the hell zone and sonic wave) note how in his confession he only confessed to hell zone and sonic wave at first and only confessed to all his hardest completions after being asked about any other cheats

Love how the final top 10 includes Spoiler:: The top 3 being Zoink verifications including 2 acherons, then 2 extremes with an extra alpha trigger

KrmaL verifying Phobos on 60hz is still probably one of the most underrated and arguably the hardest achievement at the time

You forgot Sonicbath by Sunix verified on May 12th 2017 by Sunix again. It's Sonic Wave with an extension of modifed crack and modifed asonicmen of Bloodbath at the end of it.

Robtop did actually say that he'd add his own version of CBF to the game, just to "Not Get Your Hopes Up" whatever that means and it seems like the demon list is slowly moving away from its approach of needing levels to be rated to be placed on the top spot, which would effectively change the list into what this video is, which I personally do prefer

something pretty major to note, that i would like to share. According to Bradenbowl, the only player who has completed all levels in question, as well as being the only person to give a real opinion, both invisible levels are harder than Firework and easier than Slaughterhouse, meaning that these 2 levels would not be dethroned until VSC, making Sonic Wave Infinity and arcturus not the hardest levels beaten at any point in time.

This is really fun because my first insane was stalemate, and now i am trying to beat acropolis as my second. I never realized these were top ones lol

Sorry, can you explain again why Slaughterhouse isn’t on the list? I didn’t follow what you said about its first victor not naming till 9 days after AOD’s, since Doggie cleared Slaughterhouse in December 2021, several months before Cursed cleared AOD in April 2022.

small correction: despite its insanely high difficulty, tidal wave is claimed to be one of the most fun top 1s of the recent years by pretty much everyone good enough to play it. i know it's just a small detail, but it genuinely made me a little mad because you used it as an argument for top demons being dead and horrible

Silent Clubstep wasn't nerfed by a small amount and it became worse in 2.2 due to 60 FPS physics making cube jumps smaller compared to 360 2.1, meaning that in 2.1, for example, ratio between same timings in versions was 2:1, while in 2.2 it became 1,3:0,3

The ending really sums up everything although it really hurts to hear and accept. When I first got into the community, top demons were respected not just on the basis of difficulty but as an actual level, where the levels weren't so discardable and discarded as newer top 1s now. I still am fond of Zodiac, The Golden, VSC, BloodLust, etc... But newer ones feel discarable - there's no point to care about them besides difficulty and it's all saturated. And now that 2.2 released and advantages have basically been made illegal, it feels like either a nail in the coffin or a big barricade. It's sad and hurts, but a halt to everything rather than continued oversaturation is ideal.

we have pushed the boundaries of difficulty so much that these levels aren't super exciting anymore

I would argue Phobos, even compensating for demonlist/community bias towards Bloodbath near its verification, didn't deserve to be placed higher in 2016 because it wouldn't truly reflect the skills of most of the community. 144hz players were hard to come by in that time and 240hz+ was out of the question, plus straight fly as a feature had hardly been mastered by most players. You can see the difference on the LRR (Low Refresh Rate) Demon List, where Bloodbath still ranks far above Phobos.

People who are good enough to actually play Tidal Wave tend to think its pretty fun, idk where the idea came from that it was horrible to play

I feel like I remember hearing somewhere that that one almost frame perfect click at the start of The Hell Zone is actually significantly harder on higher refresh rates, and so by the standards of 60hz it would be significantly easier than other levels it outranks in this video, but on 144 it gets there. So you wouldn't have thought of it as a new hardest level at the time because the community still hadn't fully adopted 144 as the standard.

the timeline shouldve been: vsc, firework, slaughterhouse, then aod i think, unless vsc is harder than slaughterhouse. it was firework that got verified before the first legit slaughterhouse completion, not aod edit: nvm

Man how much do I wish that Centuple had made more levels. Primary Maze is such an interesting level. It's still an insane demon in-game today and nobody wants to touch it with a 50 foot pole. It's really sad that we didn't get to see anything more from him. Even just seeing Superlative maze finished would've been so cool to see and who knows, it may have dethroned ICDX too and become a hardest demon for 2 updates. He could've become such a legendary creator but instead all we got was one true level. Just makes you wonder what could've been.

viruz mentioned but for real, by the time he beat athanasia, it was doomed to never gain any traction and i think thats what contributed to him slowly losing interest in the game from that point on. i was a very frequent face in his discord server back in the day and observed how he was making levels, and he did make some amazing levels for the time. sadly he was not recognized for who he was and now it seems that his achievements and creations are just a fleeting memory.

What a great look at the history of the game, always love these documentaries that make my back hurt progressively more (What do you mean PPF was verified almost 7 years ago noooo) Some points that are sorta related: A type character bug persisted to mobile in a different field, that being the song ID section only allowing 6 digits, meaning quickly the poll of songs that mobile players could search got stuck starting January 28th, 2021 as Newgrounds songs went past 6 digits. Not a huge deal as downloading the songs was till possible, just required a workaround of having the song set from a different device or level. This has been patched in 2.2 thankfully For Wcropolix I have the very vague memory of the creator of the original level, Keyblade, never endorsing the remake in any way and actively not wanting it to be rated, however I cannot cite a source if that was the case, so the comment isn't worth much unless you were able to track back the creators again (Which may as well not even remember what happened as it's been ages) Also I hope you have been well! The 2.2 update sure has changed a lotta stuff and I know it's probably not been all well for everyone but I hope some recent stuff in the game is still cool for you!

hot take: at 9:17, the level 'Happy Flying' by Rabb2t (one of the hardest insane 9* levels) is harder than demon world. i've completed both and i had much more trouble with happy flying. the id of happy flying is 100584. i suggest giving it a go and telling me if im wrong or not. i am a mobile player btw and everyone back then was a mobile player so i would take that into account as well

I think with the end imo Rob needs to be careful on developing an "ego" 😭that is what the whole Tidal Wave thing felt like almost, like he wasn't rating out of personal bias, and with the CBF thingy that is also feeling the case, his game is run by the community, so listen to the community.

I really liked the video and the approach of which were the actual hardest beaten levels at the time. However, I'll use this comment to vent off a bit about so many people slandering top demons. I don't think that modern top demons are less enjoyable than old ones and I do think that pushing the difficulty further is a good thing, these are my main two arguments. First one, new top 1s aren't worse: The obvious point is that Tidal Wave, your leading example, is considered to be as fun as a top 1 can get by about every top player who's played it a lot. That's not a strong argument on my part either though, as it's just one simple level and levels like AoD, Acheron, Slaughterhouse and many more were indeed considered absolute ass by most (gp wise). I also agree that there's way too many cash grab top one projects with no creativity and thought put into it (Avernus, the two billion Slaughterhouse remakes, etc.). My main point however is: Top ones never were made to be fun, they were made to be top 1 and people just stick with them because of nostalgia and because they're much less out of reach to beat nowadays due to no mental blockade of being the first and better strategies/ technology. Sonic Wave plays like ass, Bloodbath is unenjoyable imo (I know many would disagree but just look at how long it took for its first victor, so many people tried and gave up and I know many who hated playing it), the old impossible levels now beaten are pretty much all considered as some of the most draining things to play. You yourself mentioned, how, in the very early days, difficult levels used to be dislike bombed and I don't think that means they were considered fun. The most difficult levels at the time were ALWAYS mentally draining challenges of brute force and dedication, that's why it's hard to push the limits, it always has been. And Bloodbath or Cataclysm seemed just as unachievable to most people at their height as top levels today. People remember the great stories of success, the victories and maybe look back with nostalgia to those times. The struggle to beat Bloodbath or Bloodlust are looked at with admiration while the struggle to beat Tidle Wave, or Firework, etc. are seen as “why are they so stupid to play these garbage levels“. You think Knobbelboy enjoyed Bloodlust when he took 8 months to beat it after his 98% fail? Of course not, and yet it's apparently one of the greatest top 1s of all time. Top 1s are almost never fun for the first few who beat them. Demon Park wasn't, Bloodbath wasn't, Sonic Wave wasn't, Bloodlust wasn't, Tartarus wasn't and so on. Of course not all are bad, it's just that pushing the skill boundry is an immense challenge of perseverance. Now the second argument, why pushing difficulty is important: Straight up, I think it's (at least one of) the biggest reason(s) that GD has stayed relevant and kept increasing its relevance over the years despite 7 years of no updates. This game has pushed difficulty further than almost any other game. It's a beautiful embodyment of the human drive to overcome a challenge, keep improving and competing to achieve the highest goals possible. To some degree, a progression from easy levels to getting harder step by step is something literally anyone who's played this game has experienced, whatever their hardest may be. For that reason, it's inherant to wonder about how fat one can go and comparing own achievements to those of others. It's fun to speculate and to watch the legends at the top overcome the boundries. It's simple philosophy and a core drive in humans and GD encorparates this unlike anything else I've ever played. The hype around new top levels, altough quite often ridiculous, has helped keep this game appealing to many over a long time now and for the time being, it doesn't seem to stop yet. Plus, oberblown hype around top 1s isn't a new thing either, it's just that the community is much bigger now and we have way more platforms for discussion. Yatagarasu, Black Blizzard, Bloodbath and Bloodlust were all levels with unbelievable hype attached, and honestly imo only BB really deserved that much. They're all well received levels and I hold them very dear to me as well but Yata and Black Blizzard did not even achieve top 1, and Bloodlust technically wasn't top 1 for all that long if you consider Crimson Planet. That's enough rambling though, I respect your opinion and hope you somewhat get my take on it. Have a nice day! :) Edit: Also it's not like a higher difficulty cealing prevents easy and fun to play levels from being made. Some mind blowing projects in recent years haven't been demon at all and there are also a lot of very fun and interesting demons including extremes.
