Every Identical Pokémon Attack Ever

Pokémon attacks are jus as important to the series as the creatures themselves, but just as there are related Pokémon or regional variants certain attacks might have similarities when looking a bit closer, some of them you might not even expect...

Another great video. I have a fun fact to those who read this: It is stated in dex entries that Zangoose and Seviper are rivals in everything. Territory, food, the last pizza slice, you name it! One of Zangoose's ability is "immunity" which prevents Zangoose from getting poisoned, seeing how Sevipers are poison types. Seviper's hidden ability is "infiltrator", which penetrates through enemy defenses like protect, detect, obstrect, spiky shielc, reflect, light screelc, and aurora velc. (I might've stretched the joke too long there...) Which means certain Sevipers can just poison Zangoose without a problem. And so, the Zangeese (that's my plural form for zangoose) fallen victim to these, adapted. They let their shield of getting poisoned down, in return on getting a massive attack increase. It's really nice. Edi: I forgot to put king shielc in my lists of barriers infiltrator can break through. Oh well.

4:23 not to nitpick, but I’m pretty sure that Sheer Cold has a slightly higher accuracy in Hail. Also, Sheer Cold cannot hit Ice Types, while the others can hit any Pokemon (Fissure can hit flying types technically, if Gravity is set up or the opponent is knocked down). Edit- another fun fact- all 1 hit KO moves are guaranteed to hit _if_ the user is 70+ levels higher than the opponent. Pretty interesting actually, I thought this trait only applied to Guillotine. Always a good thing to fact check! Edit 2- I was wrong. Sheer Cold doesn’t have an extra chance to hit in the hail (according to Bulbapedia at least). Instead it has better effects in Contests if Hail was used before it.
@aaronodonoghue1791

@emperorcubone
@emperorcubone 2 года назад
Hmm. There certainly could be a lot that would fit well, but how would it work? Like would Intimidate only work have as well on Fairy types but double on Psychic?
@Yesenn
@Yesenn 2 года назад
@@emperorcubone You could just cover the more popular and interesting abilites, and leave out some of the more boring ones. And I kinda thought Abilities having types wouldn't affect the gameplay, but since that *would* make the video more interesting, here are some ideas: 1. The ability essentially adds a second or third type to the Pokémon, giving the Pokémon more STAB options, but also adding weaknesses. 2. The abilities work better/worse against the opponent, depending on the typing, like you said with Intimidate working worse on fairies, but better on Psychics. Of course this will become complicated with Abilities like Levitate, which simply grants a ground immunity. In those cases, the types can be ignored, I suppose. I can't think of much else. 3. Add some new moves that interact with the abilities, like changing the Pokémon's type to the Abilitily's type, or dealing damage according to the Ability's damage (like Hidden power or Nature power) Either way it'll probably be a lot of work to think of how it could work, or if it would simply be visual. But I'd be willing to see such a video in the future! A small addition: In gen 3, it was planned that not all Pokémon wouldn't have abilities, so that inspired me a bit. Not all abilities wouls have types, mainly to avoid having way too many normal-type abilities.

@enigmatic2878
@enigmatic2878 2 года назад
Won't levitate be better with psychic? I get why you said flying, but think about it: Levitation is lifting yourself up by using psychic energy. If your defense is that pokemon like Flygon, which has wings, has the ability. That's because they can't fit the flying type in since it's ground-dragon, so they gave it levitate. No hate though. Wonderful idea!

@@Yesenn maybe instead of adding a third typing to pokemon for an ability it could affect the personality? Additionally, Sirfetch’d’s Meteor Assault and Giga Impact are near-clones of each other with the slight difference in that MA has 100% accuracy while GI has 90% (I have no idea why Meteor Assault is the only 150 BP recharge move not to have 90%, but I’ll take it. IMO In a video like this Historical data should be used too. Sludge wave is more like a thunderbolt than a Moonblast. Its just because Thunderbolt, Flamethrower and Ice beam have been nerfed at the point poison types got mlre love from Game freak. Zap Cannon should also be grouped with Inferno and the other 50%ACC 100% Status moves like it would have been prior to gen 4. Beeing 100% strict on BP ACC and PP but lenient on Secondary effects make little sense to me. And also completely leaving out who gets hit if its a double battle. Id say a move is more defined by its secondary effect and then should be categorised into the otheres. Nobody would call Fury swipe and the other multi hit moves Low Power, okayish to good accuracy and medium to high PP moves.

Sky attack was never a signature move. Pidgeot could also learn it in gen 1.

By TM, but other Pokemon could learn it too. Moltres was the only one to get it naturally.

@@emperorcubone That's not what defines a signature move. Although, oddly, Softboiled became a signature move of the Chansey family in Gen 2 after it wasn't one in Gen 1 due to Mew being able to learn it by TM.

I kinda feel like this is just random comparison of moves with similarities. As was already mentioned, Relic Song was "disqualified" for the difference in PP, yet there are cases where you say moves that have much larger differences are similar.

It wasn't me just deciding to compare them, these were classified as variants of each other in the game's code...

I don't know if you knew this, but 1 hit KO moves actually function unlike any other attacks in the game. The moves have 30 base accuracy, but that's not the only accuracy. They actually have 0 accuracy if they're used on a Pokemon of a higher level. I think most people probably know that, but there's a reverse that a lot of people probably don't know. That's the fact that these moves actually get higher accuracy the higher the level of the Pokemon using the move. I don't know the exact formula, or the max accuracy. I think it's something like +1% accuracy per level, or per every 10 levels, but I genuinely don't remember. They do get higher than 30% though.

At 22:54 you claim that sky attack used to be a signature move of Moltres, but this has never been the case. In generation 1, sky attack was a TM move that could be learned by a wide variety of flying pokemon. In generation 2 it was learned as an egg move by hoothoot, murkrow, and skarmory. In gen 3, it was learnable by altaria, and since gen 4 there have been many pokemon that learn it. I'm not sure why bulbapedia claims it is the signature move of moltres in gen 2 when multiple pokemon can learn it through breeding (and obviously a pokemon knowing it could be transferred from gen 1).

In competitive it is actually common for Mega Salamence to run Minimum friendship Frustration over max friendship return in order to somewhat account for a possible ditto(the pokemon ditto) which would likely always have max friendship
@emperorcubone
@emperorcubone 2 года назад
Right, but you'd have to specifically breed it for that because if you used it through a game there's no way you could make it hate you that much...

The only redundant variant of protect is detect. All other protection moves do something when someone contacts the shield. Detect does nothing unique. Its just a fighting type protect with less pp.
