I love that NCAA gymnasts really get to show their personalities in FX. Way more freedom with music choices which inspires fun, innovative, fresh feeling choreo. It's clear these ladies are truly enjoying themselves!

Amazing that Mykayla managed to receive two perfect 10s from the judges even with two uncontroled landings hahaha

Especially for the well know teams, when the difficulty is really high they tend to be slightly more lenient on deductions like what you would see in elite before the open ended code

2018 should have been Ohashi's alone if NCAA judges cared more about form because Maggie had a leg separation in her opening pass during the flip

That’s already .300 deduction even if we’re being picky. She’s definitely an overrated NCAA gymnast.

I was there for the championships - and was a judge for years - - - I can tell you that I love Ohashi however she also had leg separation - you just didn’t see it due to the camera angle. It was actually an amazing meet.

Please remember that the judges don't have the ability to see the gymnast from every angle, we may be able to see all their errors but the judges can't!!

I agree. Didn’t take katelyn have close to a perfect 10 average on floor that season? I know that doesn’t matter in the end but her floor at nationals was better then Maggie’s. I honestly didn’t see any leg separations on her passes.

Is it just me is or Kat Grable's the best one out of them all? The combination of unique skills, power, form, and choreo is unparalleled in this bunch - and she doesn't cheat any of her landings like almost everyone in 2017-19.
@JennaLeigh

I gotta agree with you. They're all great- Kytra had SUCH power....but Kat just had such unique choreo and STYLE. Mykayla Skinner has never quite been able to control her power.

Of the 2019 routines, Kyla Ross has the cleanest presentation and her choreography might be less "flashy" than the other 3, it's still the most polished and professsional looking one, definitely world class artistry. The other three are more "fun" but I don't think they are up to Kyla's level as an overall package.

@@hazelnutspred3348 but floor exercise is all about where the artistry comes from women's artistic gymnastics. it's so hard to be artistic for them due to the COP preferring difficulty over execution. so although yes, it is not a choreography competition, it is vital to have an alluding performance.

Can someone please explain to me why we don’t see routines like these in the Olympics? Skill-wise it seems these gymnasts are far superior, land everything correctly, do more interesting things that look a lot harder, I’m not getting this.
@Colleoleen
@Colleoleen 2 года назад
I’ll take a shot at answering this. My guess is, 1) They take care of themselves when injured. A they have a schedule of meets against schools and can compete in the next meet if they skip one, whereas in Elite WAG they push themselves to compete in qualifier meets so they can go on to the next competitive one. That could explain why we see NCAA execution is stronger. Also, an NCAA championship is mentally less pressure than a World Championship or Olympics, so we really do see the NCAA athletes at their best.
@Colleoleen
@Colleoleen 2 года назад
2) no Code of Points! They do more interesting things because they’re not all aiming for the same high-difficulty elements like the L-turn and Wolf turn.
@Colleoleen
@Colleoleen 2 года назад
3) I’ll go out on a limb and say these collegiate women have more interesting, expressive routines because they have more life experience to draw on, more story to express. Elite gymnasts know 1 thing, gymnastics. They’re younger, they’re homeschooled, they don’t have Friday Night dance parties, they don’t have the breadth of experience to draw from that lends itself a wider range of expression.
@Colleoleen
@Colleoleen 2 года назад
4) NBC doesn’t air many routines from other countries in their Olympics coverage. Floor isn’t America’s strength as it is in, say, Romania. (edit) And idk why that is. A commentator said once Romanians are strong at FX and I found myself agreeing.
@Colleoleen
@Colleoleen 2 года назад
It’s a true team competition. Notice how the teams cheer for each other, especially during the routine, dancing along with them. Whereas in Olympics, the ladies are more reserved. On the nights of the Event finals and AA they’re competing against their teammates.
