For me the DS original is the best because it was very unique at the time it came out. Every game after it was just a new level pack and not much else.

For me, NSMB2 is the one I like the most. I've played it all my childhood. But yeah it doesn't change anything except adding the gimmick to try and get so much coins. I can agree with you putting it in last. I just like it because it was the first NSMB game I played.

I know this might be controversial but NSMB Wii will always be my number one. I loved the more open layout of each of the levels and I felt that they did the gimmicks on each level feel more unique and fun to play in level design compared to the other NSMB games. Not to mention the variety of power ups at your disposal and the overall decent sound track.

DS's VS mode was awesome!! I wish more Mario games did that kinda stuff

We litteraly have the EXACT SAME CLASSEMENT Edit: the first New Mario BROS. was just incredible , the secret worlds , brand new enemies like Balloon Boo , Ice Spike , or even Lightning Lakitu , so damn cool! The varation on the last 5 levels of the game was realy unecpected and all the boss fights were original , it's impossible to deny , the game that started it all is truely the best one of them...

I think the Blue Shell added a bit of variety to how you could defeat enemies, since some enemies like boos or dry bones were immune to fire flowers and could only be beaten to with a blue shell or mega mushroom. Blue Shells also made you swim faster and with better handling, so there were definitely some incentives to using the shell.

I saw NSMBW gameplay and was gonna cry thinking it was gonna be last but I’m glad it’s not so yay

3:43 Speaking of zero indicators, I remember one star coin where you had to ground pound in a specific spot in order to get the star coin. There were zero hints or anything, and I only knew about that star coin because of a RU-vid video. No wonder why they didn't put those hidden walls in mario maker, those troll levels would be nightmare fuel.

Nsmb U is actually real fun IF you play with 2 or more players, it gets really chaotic, in a good way, and somehow increases the difficulty of it too.

NSMBU and NSMBWii is my favorites, they both have the same issue. If you play by yourself then it’s not fun, basically other Mario games have the same issue. But if you play with multiple players then the game shows the fun.

I remember being so excited about getting nsmb2 and I have a guilty pleasure playing the game, and I remember playing nsmb wii at a friends house. Awesome video!

Me personally I love NSMBDS mainly because of how it sticks out from the rest of the games in the series. I like that all the levels have unique designs to them (excluding water levels because no one likes them) and also how each world boss is different like in world 5 it was Petey Piranha and in world 6 the Monty mole tank the game is definitely one of the best sidescrolling Mario games yet without a doubt

For me, the Wii U/Switch one is the best. It may have been the end of this long dreadful "new" Era, but by this point, Nintendo polished the series. Plus it's the hardest one too. I'm not saying it's a great game, but I am saying it's the best one in the series. It's the only one that includes a proper world map too.

have you ever got all gold medals in every challenge in NSMBU? i put 65 hours into that game and the challenges were definitely 3/4 of that time, im pretty sure the one called "Don't. Touch. Anything." took me 10-16 hours on its own, and thats not including the boost challenges which were removed from the deluxe port, so i would like to say it is the hardest nsmb game by a lot. Also my own list would be 5. Ds (I never played it) 4. luigi u (its way too short) 3. U/Deluxe (star coins are in stupid spots, challenges a bit too difficult) 2. 2/3DS (fun game, no real issues) 1. Wii (nostalgia, also fun game)

I barely play nsmb2 and thats cause i lost the cartridge so i mainly forgot that game exist and putting nsmbds in number 1 was a no brainer it had better bosses and better music the only downside is the powerups and the final boss it was underwhelming but overall probably the 3rd best mario game for the ds imo

NSMB2 is so boring. I beat it 100% in the day I bought it minus the 1 Million Coins. It was a waste of time. I could have just replayed New Super Mario Bros Wii instead and would get the same experience. At least U gave some new challenges. But even that got obsolete once the DLC aka. New Luigi U came out. I feel all Mario Games with a 2 are really underwhelming, lazy, unique or questionable. Of these I like Super Mario Land 2 the best followed by Super Mario Bros 2. Galaxy 2 is linear and it takes forever to get into the game. And New Super Mario Bros 2 is boring as hell. Super Mario Bros 2 is a bit too different which left a sour taste in my mouth. And Super Mario Bros Lost Levels was a mistake but it has some well though out levels and is challenging. Land 2 is probably the closest to a good sequel because it is. Wish that some of the handheld exclusive stuff came back like the exploding koopas and the Super Ball. At least we have Wario and it actually feels like a game around coins.

New Super Luigi U was a hard game for the Wii U but then they ruined it with the deluxe version by making the other characters give you more time

The DS one is easily the best. At the time it actually was new and not every boss was a fucking koopaling! I’m not even kidding when I say this the new super Mario Bros series literally made me hate them koopalings since now they are just the epitome of laziness. None of the new super Mario Bros games are bad but they’re just so bland. It wouldn’t even be that hard to make them a little more interesting. A different villain, art style or new locations could’ve gone a long way. Also this is kind of a nitpick but the new super Mario Bros series is literally why in every new game now bowser jr is stuck in the clown car. Remember when he used to walk. For new super Mario Bros DS I thought I was going to be second-best because how bad most of the Bossfight are because Bowser jr is way too easy and the final boss is not exciting at all because it’s just a Browser fight but slightly harder and there’s browser Jr

New super Luigi U Is great but I do have one complaint. All the boss fights are reused from new super Mario Bros U. Would it really have been so hard to design new boss fights or even just make the boss fights they reused a little harder

Imo, although it doesn't really count, I believe U Deluxe on SWITCH (the wii u original is fine) is not just the worst game in the series but also one of the worst things nintendo has put out It's worse in multiplayer due to the fact one player will always be at an advantage if playing with 4 people, it spawned a terrible meme, and didn't really do much on top of that. Literally the original is better as it has stuff the switch version completely cut out, stuff that made the original stand out even just a little bit, like the gamepad player.

I disagree with your take on NSMBU. I prefer that game by a long shot. It’s level design is miles better than Wii, some of the best in the series, and its appealing to both single players and multiplayer. It’s graphics are improved, the backgrounds are beautiful, the story is still simple, but at least a bit different than normal. The multiplayer is also a lot less hectic than Wii. I will agree that some of the secrets are pretty obscure, but many of them just require extra exploration. In NSMBDS, the Star Coins were way too easy to get. Also, you didn’t even bring up the extra modes of Mario U, Challenge Mode, Boost Mode, and Coin Rush, including DLC. That’s more extra modes (of quality, not like Free-For-All which is just story mode levels with points for each person) than what the other three games have to offer. And I completely understand why you think the game might be too easy, but I’d think that challenge mode and world 9 should be able to compensate for the difficulty level. There’s also a world map, connecting all the levels, making the story mode feel cohesive. Personally, it’s my favorite NSMB, and what I’d call the best. I’d at least put it above Mario Wii. To call U a failure seems like an overstatement.

My ranking Nsmbu and luigi u This game was just kinda there one new enime one new power up steal stuff from the past games with nothing new and doesn't offer something more to do or something new or unique and luigi u is just bad sorry to say but this game is not hard yeah luigi controls a bit weird but stuff like sliding can easily be remedied by just a jump and then you just stop moving keeping just about everything u added it's funny how much people rag on mario u for reusing stuff but don't say anything about luigi u come on guys this is better but not by much New super mario bros. Now when I put this here I'm not saying it's bad it's pretty good but there's some problems 1. The power ups are weak the blue shell would almost be good if and only if it didn't automatically put you in the shell after running it makes basic jumps really difficult since you can't correct your jump easily megamushroom just a glorified screen nuke that isn't even in most levels mini mushroom just a lame power up you jump slightly higher and stay in the air long but at that point why not just make a flying power up the levels are alright but kinda easy personally and it doesn't offer anything much to different from any other new super game no 2 player multiplayer even though the system proved to be able to do it except for the other 2 speaking of 2 New super mario bros. 2 Alright I consider this one better because of coins even though it's easy to gain lives come on you can easily gain lives in the other games to this one just has coins to make it easier and because of that you don't really need to care about dying it's just a minor inconvenience and this one one least has an identity new super mario bros ds was just a new, super mario bros game not something actually new most of this follows for all the games but to me collecting the coins is really satisfying since it's something other than just saying peach think about it what do the rest of the games have excluding luigi u and wii yeah not much aside from a couple bonus modes that are minor distractions aside from mario vs luigi but good luck finding somebody who owns a ds and Is interested in nsmb. Give new super 2 this at least the gimmick is something to do in the main game after you find all the star coins plus the dlc is fun and has many more unique levels compared to u and ds not that ds is bad I just think 2 is better well rounded New super mario bros wii The best of the best why is this the best? Yes indeed, all levels from NSMBU are easy, except World 9 - Level 8. I literally did spend hours trying to beat it. My ranking by the way: 1. NSMB Wii (best world, level and boss fight designs) 2. NSMB DS (most nostalgic and fun to play) 3. NSMB U (most beautiful) 4. NSMB 2 (never played it)
