Ocarina of Time is easily S tier. Playing that for the first time was unlike any other gaming experience I’ve ever had at the time, I just loved the eerie and dark atmosphere. Still one of the best Zelda games around
Majoras Mask is better because it isn’t boring, it does get frustrating but it’s more engaging than Ocarina of time. Best I can say about Ocarina is its soundtrack and story
It's definitely S-tier but it has aged relatively poorly, though that's typical of 90s-era 3d games. I always thought A Link to the Past was the best Zelda game, and it still holds up incredibly well for a 30--year-old game.
@@ToruKun1 I had a bad first experience with 64 but adored practically all of the 2d games. A lot of it came down to how weird the controls felt but I imagine if I get past all that the game is pretty good overall. I'll have to go back and try it again sometime
Bro watching Charlie geek out about these games brings me such joy. To see how fondly he recalls some of the GOATS, it takes me back to some kinda pure age of gaming. I know saying shit like that makes me sound like a nostalgia addict, but man oh man, games just hit fucking different pre-xbox one and ps4 era. There are still some banger games coming out in this new era but anything and everything was just someone’s passion project back then. People made the absolute craziest, zaniest, wackiest shit and I ate it up. So good. Great vid, Charlie. Can’t wait to take a walk through time and see what you think of some of the other consoles, especially ones I never played as a kid (i mostly stuck to Nintendo and Xbox).
dude I knew something was off when ps4/one hit. The industry felt so much more monetized and robotic. I was only 10 at the time but even then I felt something. I was proven right now though, that generation really wasnt good. The ps3/360 era was so much better. Cant imagine what the n64/ps2/xbox era was like. I only played lego starwars and battlefront 2 on the ps2 so I was too young.
The N64 is a console that you would love to death if you grew up with it. If you gave the choice between N64 and Dreamcast; I am going Dreamcast. Got one this year and it is my favorite console of all time. Dreamcast is more intresting to me than N64.
@@LampHatScottah I’m so grateful and happy to grow up with the n64 just in time. The games back then were so “future” like and they each had their one unique taste. I really miss them.
Man F-Zero X is such a classic. It's a shame he didn't try it, but the high speed 60 fps races were unrivaled back then. And the soundtrack goes fucking nuts.
@@novasZK as someone who has played all f zero games, it's my favorite. The soundtrack and aesthitic are fucking god tier \m/ I would highly recommend a pkay through of at least the first 3 cups Also Skull is the best racer
@@novasZK Honestly on Very Hard/Master difficulty, I find X to be harder than GX. Absolutely love both but you just can't beat X with 60fps racing, a track editor/2 extra cups (Disc Drive only) and my favorite, the X cup, which consists of procedurally generated tracks. Genuinely one of the best games of all time
As someone who’s incredibly biased when it comes to Paper Mario as it was the game that made me realize what video games can truly be when I was a kid, it belongs in goated!
It's such a good game, I never actually finished it until recently with my little brother watching me, the Crystal King fight is so fun and the Bowser fight is very intense, Paper Mario is a fantastic game.
Absolute tragedy that Diddy Kong Racing wasn’t on here. It was my favorite game of all time beside Banjo Kazooie. The songs still get stuck in my head to this day. Kirkhope and Wise are legendary composers
Haha I was looking forward to watching this and then seeing you check out a ton of my videos was fun to see. Keep Up the great work, your voice is super chill and combined with n64 makes it a great video to watch 👍
Jet Force Gemini was one of my favourite games on the N64. Me and my friends put in so many hours I am quite shocked Charlie never played it. The way it did co-op was genius for it's time.
I still sometimes hope that someone mods it and makes some sort of zombie survival mode for it. Looking back and playing the game as an adult, it was absolutely perfect for an endless wave multiplayer mode. Shame it didn't have one.
@@user-zm7zl9lc6j tbf I don't think fun is infinite was intended either, it plays the boss theme but it was originally made in Japan, and JP's boss theme for that game wasn't the nightmare fuel that was the US version lol

Everyone usually mentions the more popular games, so I'll talk about an underrated gem. Ogre Battle 64 is one of the best tactical rpgs I've played to this day. The class system is fun, the story is great, and the choices you make actually matter. Learning all the intricacies of the game is a lot of fun. It's sad that a lot of people missed this one and I never see it get much love outside of it's niche fanbase
I was disappointed when OB64 didn't get a PAL-region release because I liked the first two SNES OB games (rented a US import of MotBQ and I had played a fan translated ROM of Tactics Ogre).
my buddy had that game and I've never forgotten it, easily top 10 Nintendo 64 games. The army building and all that was next level, haven't found anything that really comes close. also Ogre Battle Reborn comes out on 11/11 hopefully that fills the void... if not my last hope is they release Orge Battle 64 on Nintendo's expansion pack also cant forget about Gauntlet Legends, Twisted Metal, Army Man Series & Perfect Dark
Bro, Body Harvest is criminally underrated. Once you know the story and start discovering the hidden areas and other maps, it seriously becomes exciting.

I played it a little bit and i was kinda kn the fence on it because there isnt really a lot going on between running from place to place, but i agree it is underrated to most people.
The N64 had a long list of games that were so good. And because of that there was bound to be a game or two missing, just a shame it was Diddy Kong Racing as one of them. It's easily an S-Tier game (imo)
I had it on ds, God that game slapped. That game literally had the entire concept of sonic all stats racing transformed, like 15 years before it came out.
The ability mixing mechanics in Kirby 64 was an awesome gameplay concept and I wish Nintendo or Hal or whoever develops the next mainline Kirby game would bring this super fun-to-experiment system back into the franchise.
I can't remember the combo, I think it was ice and electric? Can't remember but anyone one of them turned you into a refrigerator that you could spit out food and regain health. It was how I beat the final boss but when I found that combo I was like, goddamn! I thought I seen everything! Lot's of cool abilities, still one of my favorite kirby games
Just finished Majora's Mask (N64) yesterday night and it was Phenomenal. The plot is unique, the characters are interesting and likable, the gameplay was smooth, the combat is great, there's always something to do, the NPCs actually has purpose and the game rewards you for exploring and thinking in every location plus the temples/dungeons are satisfying to complete.
As always gotta give a special shout out for the soundtrack. The song of healing is hauntingly beautiful where you feel calm and disparity at the same time
Remember the bouncy grenades xD Would play with 3 friends, turn on max AI bots and then isolate available weaponry on bouncy grenades, rocket launchers and proxy mines hahaha, just explosions everywhere
I remember playing with friends with one hit kill on having the only available weapon being N-bombs (yes that was what they were called in-game) and it was some of the most chaotic gaming in my life
@@TomyLopex I'm going to say I played it last year after a couple of years and it didn't felt that bad, there are only like 4 or 5 times were the controls and the camera are torture to play, but outside of that everything is pretty solid, even more for the 64
DK64 is my most underrated game in history imo. It was quite a while after SM64 and was a great game to go to for those who loved SM64. It had its own aura, but the gameplay was still top top top notch. The ambiance was amazing. GOAT tier for me.
I completely agree. I played it recently on emulator and it was still so good! Admittedly some of the controls are janky (like diddy kong jet pack) but the game was so expansive and brilliant
I finally got 101% on the game (201/200 bananas because of the banana fairies) It was such a good game. I played it as a kid on 64 but didn’t beat it until I was 15. That final boss fight took some endurance. I wish this game got more attention for casual gameplays.
@@tomrees82 yeah I agree but it should be regarded as one of the greats in my opinion. People don’t even mention it all that often. People should be sucking that Donkey D when it comes to this game.
I'd honestly put perfect dark up a tier. It stood right along goldeneye for me. Glad to see Majora's mask made S tier. A lot of peopl don't like it as much as Ocarina, but I honestly prefer it

Honestly a pretty good list overall, I like that he showed some deserved love to games like Kirby 64, Mace, and Turok, a shame Turok 2 wasn't on the list because if the first one was great, 2 was even better. With Mace, I don't know if it's a good game competitively but just to play the arcade mode or 1v1 funsies it was a blast, we definitely need a fighter with a dark fantasy setting. Also thanks for talking about Smash64 without comparing it to Melee, it is heartbreaking to hear people say that Smash starts with Melee, but the feel of SSB64 is so unique and something that hasn't been recreated again.

Man! I watched this excitedly hoping Charlie wouldn't skip past the co-op spaceship battle game that I played as a child and could never find the name of. Thankfully at 27:25 he put a little gameplay on screen and I was instantly flooded with nostalgia for that awesome game we rented from a local gas station all those years ago. Forsaken 64 was such a fun game.
I really hope that War of the Monsters is on the PS2 tier list, that shit is an S tier all day. Ever since it got a re-release on Ps4 it has had a permanent space on my hardrive, even after I got a PS5. It's like dragonball xenoverse for mythological creatures, I fucking love that game, have ever since I was 4 years old. It's been 19 years and that game still holds up to the tests of time.
Damn not putting Kirby and the Crystal Shards in GOAT hurt my feelings. That's a Kirby game that holds up easily today and I still go back and play it sometimes. Such a great game with being able to mix the powers and find cool combinations was soo good.
Seeing you know about how underrated Mace The Dark Age was and putting it up there compared to the other N64 fighting games really put a smile on my face. Mace was such an awesome game. Loved the character designs as well. Good times playing it over my cousin’s house as a kid. Very nostalgic N64 game to me, along with Kirby 64, Bomberman Hero, Army Men Sarges Heroes 2, Wave Race 64, Clayfighter Sculptor’s Cut, and Glover

Man, this brought back some good memories. I played Goldeneye one night while i was supposed to be asleep already, and my stepdad (who had just moved in with my mom at the time) came to check up on me. Instead of telling me to go to sleep as usual, he sat down next to me and we just played and talked for a bit. It was the first time we really started bonding and being reminded of this little moment just made my day so much better!

Bug's Life was one of those games as a kid that I really enjoyed... but as an adult realized how much it wasn't great. I'm not a fan of people dismissing someone's opinion of a game because of their nostalgia, but that was definitely a, "Not as good as I remember," moment. Ah well, the fact I enjoyed it when I didn't have a lot of games at the time can only be a net positive. I don't agree with your taste past me, but you do you.
I have great memories of Bug's Life, all besides the fact that despite playing it twice from the start as a kid I never finished the last stage, I just didn't know how xD
Conker's Bad Furday in A tier truly did hurt my heart, but just because its my favorite game of all time doesn't mean other people share my opinion. Overall great Tier list Charlie keep it up my dude.

Man, Beetle Adventure Racing is an easy S, maybe even GOAT. Probably the racing game with the most alternate paths and shortcuts ever + having to collect stuff while racing is super challenging and fun. (This comes from a guy who played this game for the first time at 20 years old)
Dude I loved Beetle Adventure Racing. Me and my brother would play the destruction derby or w/e the mode was, you collected beetles. That was my first more traditional arcade racer.
When Charlie said he thought the ingame trophies in Mario cart were real trophies you would get, I instantly thought of my old little kid thoughts, like the signs on the road that said “No shoulder driving” meant you couldn’t drive with your shoulders steering the wheel. Ahh good wholesome little kid moments…
I'm appalled that doom 64 isn't at least A tier, but I do understand it is based off his thoughts whenever he first played it. Also Paper mario 64 is goat
@@k.w.6626 I'm still baffled how someone remade it into a PC port and then got hired by Bethesda to make the official Doom 64 port on PC and consoles. I thought I was the only one that loved that game

Beetle adventure racing was sick. What do you mean you do nothing? It's unique in that it combines exploration in a racing game. The cool environments had shortcuts/secret areas that were so creative and fun to access. The soundtrack was simple but groovy asf.The multiplayer was also a blast, definitely prefer this over Mario kart 64.

You put Body Harvest so low and I cant really fault you for it, because the game starts out super slow in Greece, but that game was wacky as hell and I loved it. Third world is Siberia and you start out running over zombies with a combine harvester, and the fourth world is America where you go bust an alien out of Area 51 and jack his UFO. Also, you can tickle skeletons and they giggle and I feel that earns it at least a B. Its really more of a puzzle game with fighting like a 3d Metroid than it is an action game.

Great list overall. I would move Conker’s and Jet Force Gemini to GOATs IMMEDIATELY and Fighting Force 64 to S tier for the multiplayer alone. Finally you did not had to do my boy Pokemon Puzzle League like that, it was fun if you were good at it. x) Definitely not trash 🗑

Conker's Bad Fur Day, is the Goat n64 game. Multiplayer aspect was inspired, and better than Golden Eye, and i loved Golden Eye. Still nothing stands against the S tier Conker's. (I can understand his opinion on it.)
I just wanted to say that I used to take the rumble packs out of Starfox 64 boxes that at Blockbuster because they just left them in there on the shelf. N64 was the BEST for many reasons, one of my favorites being the ability to play games with 4 people and also because WCW/WWE Revenge was for the platform.

Jet force Gemini, idk if you got it or maybe I missed it. For me it was one of the best games I’ve ever played on early consoles. If you didn’t rate it or never played it I think you absolutely should and I’d love to know what you think about it. I’ve don’t think I’ve ever left a comment on any RU-vid video ever.. but I felt the need with this. Love your content Charlie, I don’t always agree but I will always be enjoying it no matter what. Also beetle adventure racing has a lot more than you think, especially if you include the cheats haha.
Unless I missed it, Gauntlet Legends and Hexen were great games missing from the list. Happy to see love for Snowboard Kids. Wish that series would make a comeback.
He skipped over Gauntlet legends. It ended up in the didn't play after the looked at Hercules 35:22 but when he was reviewing glover it was not on the tier list yet. 35:01
Blast Corps was really fun. For me it was one I rented when I wasn't sure what to rent. For me its A tier possibly S. 1080 snowboarding was also a classic.
Majora's mask was so unbelievably perfect that it should have its own tier just called the Majora's mask because it doesn't matter how much time passes Majora's mask is still the best video game ever created
I mean that's an opinion and one not quite a few people don't agree with including me it's a great game not at all perfect not even close and when it comes to just zelda games ocarina of time and breath of the wild are better and Calling it the best game of all time again is an opinion, but you're allowed to have your opinion just saying it definitely doesn't deserve its own tier that's a fact
I just finished Majora's Mask (N64) recently, it is a really good game, but by no means the best game on N64 let alone the Best Game Ever. IMO Ocarina of Time is better than Majora's Mask. The world is much more interesting to explore, the game is bigger, the plot is great (MM is better tho imo) , the characters are much more likeable (an obvious example : Navi), the Boss fights are better and have much more variety. I never played those 2 game when I was a kid so my opinions are based on the recent playtrough and doesn't have any Nostalgia in it.
I find the most underrated game of the N64 that nobody talks about is ShadowMan. The game follows a character named Michael Leroi/ ShadowMan and it’s a open world action adventure game. It’s so fun and cool and I wish more people new about. It recently got remastered for the Xbox, PlayStation and Switch and is only $20 so I recommend anybody who has the time and willing to pay 20 bucks to try it out because it’s a masterpiece.

My favorite was doing the pyramid level with 1 minute on the timer so instant sudden death. Each level had unique sudden death (the grass level was the worst, random meteors every death felt cheap) the pyramid would slowly flood from the bottom where the power ups were so It'd be risk /reward to get the power ups. Also the easiest place to kick bombs was downhill towards the power up area. Anyway as it flooded it forces you to combat similar to battle royale shrinking circles.
Clayfighter was such an amazing fighting game. I remember playing it when I was younger from a rental at Blockbuster (when it was still a thing). I'd like to see it make a return because that would be phenomenal!
Born in 98, Conkers Bad Fur Day came out in 01. I cannot tell you how young I was when I first played the game but I still have memories sitting in the lounge room playing it with my dad - some of the best times.
