I walked into a tiny bar with a buddy in Wickenburg, AZ and Randy was in the 3rd inning. We ate and had a couple drinks and it was the 6th inning and Randy was still perfect. I told my buddy we weren't going anywhere. As we watched I realized that when Randy was pitching I had been standing beside our tall bar table and I was holding the table with my left thumb and forefinger. So any time Randy came back out to the mound I got in position as well. I hope Randy appreciates how much I helped him get that perfect game that day.

It’s crazy how rare perfect games are, yet there were 2 within 3 weeks of eachother in 2010 and three in the 2012 season. They seemed so common for a short period, and then, they vanished. None in the last decade since Felix did it. And as a Mariners fan who grew up with the King as his favorite player, I can say I am proud for him to have held the distinction as the last Perfect pitcher for this long. One of the few Mariners brags I can make.

My father had to correct me and said, "Not a no-hitter Cassidy, a perfect game. A no-hitter means no hits, but he could still put players on base with a walk. A perfect game means no one reaches base." It's no surprise there have only been 23 (at the time of this comment) Fun Fact: two of the 23 perfect games were pitched in Seattle in 2012. #GoMariners

This just goes to show how many things have to go right for someone to throw a perfect game. These guys aren't all HOF pitchers. Couple of 'em I've never even heard of except for this. Think of how many great, great pitchers never threw a perfect game. Nolan Ryan. 7 no-hitters, none perfect. Obviously it's a major achievement for a pitcher, but it really has to be the whole team firing on all cylinders. No errors, no fielder's choice, nothing. It's a defensive win for the whole team, really. Not to mention luck. I mean, no bloop singles, no one goes yard, no little roller that the third baseman can't reach in time.... It's pretty remarkable, and it isn't just the greatest pitchers in the game that get one. I kinda like that.

Some things I noticed: Rays had 3 Perfect Games thrown against them in a span of 4 seasons. Angels and Rangers threw perfectos at each other 10 years apart, both in Texas. 1984 in old Arlington Stadium (Mike Witt) and 1994 in Rangers Ballpark (Kenny Rogers), the inaugural season for that field. Rogers' Perfect game featured a game-saving diving catch in center field by Rusty Greer in the top of the 9th.

Koufax's game was interesting for two other reasons. His opponent also was perfect through 4 innings, allowed an unearned run in the 5th, and gave up his only hit in the 7th inning, and Harvey Kuenn was the final out in a Koufax no-hitter for the second time in his career.

Jimmy Fallon told a great story about inviting David Wells to an SNL after-party. He and Horatio Sans left at 5 AM, but Wells remained. Fallon woke up at 2 PM and turned on the Yes Network to find Wells on the mound in what turned out to be his perfect game. It's not quite Dock Ellis pitching a no-hitter on LSD, but hungover David Wells pitching a perfecto is one of the great stories in MLB history.

I’m a Phillies fan. Not even in the same league as the Detroit Tigers. But after Halladay’s perfecto I was itching to see another one. I was with my ex’s family watching the Phillies game that night, but we saw the perfect game watch bulletin on the bottom of the screen. Everyone, even though they were die-hard Phillies fans, asked to change the channel to MLB network to watch the last 3 outs. We immediately were treated to Jackson’s amazing catch and everyone was hooked! When we saw the replay of the play, we were absolutely FURIOUS!!! All fans of baseball, even if it wasn’t their team, were shocked and appalled by that moment!😮 Buttt….I admire both Galarraga and Jim Joyce for their extreme sportsmanship and professionalism while that happened! Truly inspirational!!!!! 😮

Two pitchers who had perfect games removed from being officially perfect games: Ernie Shore and Harry Haddix. Ernie Shore came in relief for the starter, who walked the first batter, argued the call and was tossed. Ernie Shore induced a double play that inning, getting 27 outs. However, because he faced only 26 batters, MLB said it was not a perfect game. The pitcher Shore replaced? Babe Ruth. Harry Haddix pitched 12 perfect innings, still a record for a single game, despite the Braves being able to steal the signs from Smoky Burgess, the Pirates catcher, and tipping off the batter from the 3rd inning on. Haddix was shutting down Hank Aaron and Eddie Matthews, both of whom who knew what pitch was being thrown. However, in the 13th, Haddix finally gave up a walk and a couple of hits and lost the game 1-0 on what ended up being an out of the park single by Aaron. What happened was, Aaron had hit what should have been an HR but one of the base runners ran off the field before touching a base, Aaron had officially passed him on the base paths and both were called out. MLB changed the rules and said since Haddix didn’t complete the game as a perfect game, let alone a no hitter, it would no longer be considered either. Before the game during warmups, Burgess said to Haddix his stuff looked really good and he had a good chance of throwing a no hitter.
@justin40315

The Harry Haddix one is the one that really pisses me off. That's genuinely one of the best performances by a single player of all time, and he doesn't get to have it be officially called a perfect game, even though his team let him down by not putting a run on the board.
