Just a suggestion: when you reorder mylar bags, check out MRE style bags. Opening is on the side. This allows for easier access to the food after rehydratng. I get mine from Discount Mylar. They are 7mil thick and have 2 sizes.

Waterproof matches And a lighter as well as some fire starters so you can heat your food. A few snacks would be good too. A flashlight or head lamp and if you can afford one, a jet boil stove. Mine also has a hand held freedom device and the ammo for it. I Love that you are now aware of the importance of a 72 hour kit, I would suggest a backpack though. Here's why, In a backpack you can load the water first and the food one top which keeps the water from crushing the food. A backpack will also allow you to use your back to carry thus keeping your hands free for the most part. I freeze dry too and have learned to ignore the comments from others. The types of people who tell you to just run to Costco and get a chicken are the ones who would have to be looting peoples homes for whatever food they could find if the shtf.

My husband and I are both subscribers and love our freeze dryer!! We built bugout bags a few years ago and can quickly add our freeze dried food and water in a hurry. Covid taught us a lot about preparing. Both cars have emergency kits and water in them. Super easy easy to put together. Along with several ways to start a fire without matches. We are on a large grain farm in rural Victoria, Australia.. we dont get hurricanes, or earthquakes, but, being surrounded by dry wheat crops, and bush, are at real risk of devastating bushfires. Growing up in rural Florida, we always had preps because of power outages from hurricanes. You learn to stash bags to move out. We have horses and dogs to move. Everything is ready, including planned routes to locations. What has been so devastating about TN and Nc is they had no time to get out. No warning of the flooding. We live in middle TN now and the local stories of what has happened is just heartbreaking. Not only did the people not get out, but the animals were trapped. The areas of East Tn and Western NC will never be the same.

Nice video. Thanks for bringing awareness to the need to be prepared. Id certainly suggest a bag for getting home (if a crisis happens while away) or if you need to bug out. I like the idea of food in a duffel, but I also recommend a nice backpack with other supplies. There are tons of videos on what to put in these bags, but one suggestion (which might alleviate a lot of the weight of your food duffel) is a nice compact water filter (I really like the Sawyer Mini).

I am a new subscriber to your channel. I found you about a month or so ago. I like your teaching style and I am new to freeze drying. I appreciate your tips and extra info that you provide. I enjoy your videos and your personality. Please know that you are helping a lot of us learn to freeze dry food. I think there is a disconnect with so many people about food preservation. I have canned food for several years, but I much prefer freeze drying. Ignore the naysayers, and keep on producing great content! I have a Stanley all in one boil and brew. It holds 32 oz. It is a french press style that I keep in my bag. I have ground coffee in my bag, and the instant sticks too. I can boil water in the cup over a small fold up camp burner that uses the 1 pound propane tanks. I happen to live in a county in TN that was ravaged by Helene. I am very, very blessed in that I did not lose my home and had no property damage. So many lost their homes, vehicles, even land was washed away. Bridges everywhere were washed away isolating lots of people on "islands". I did not lose power, but we were without water for over a week. We are now on a conserve and boil notice for several weeks. I am a prepared person, have the 72 hr. kits, extra food, solar generators, propane, etc. I had water stored but not nearly enough for flushing toilets and bathing. Bottled water was distributed at lots of places. I was thankful that our county offered 20 gallons of water for each person who brought their own containers. Again, I am thankful that I had a stock of 5 gallon buckets, thankful that I did not have to cross any bridges, and thankful that hubby could handle the buckets with his truck. I learned it is possible to shower with 1.5 gallons of water. I had a brand new 2 gallon garden sprayer and hubby hooked a new garden nozzle to it with a piece of hose. I heated water on the stove and we each had a most refreshing shower, even though we had to pump the tank several times while showering, lol. The actual recommendation for water that we discovered was 6 gallons, per person, per day. I plan on purchasing some water storage barrels and getting some rain barrels for my garden, chickens, and bathing. We have never had a hurricane of this magnitude in these mountains. So many were caught unaware, even if they were preppers, it would not have made a difference if your home was one of of many that were washed away. And I hope to never see another flooding hurricane again! God bless you!

I guess I think I’ve got plenty of time to stock it because I still don’t have it stocked with water and the things I need after being in the house a year. This reminds me it’s a good time to get all the things I need in it in case we have to be locked in the room for a while. thank you again.

Good Go bag, I would def suggest a decently sized bag for adults 40L + and even smaller ones for kiddos with kiddos stuff, toys, coloring book, etc. If you cam try to get a comfy bag with padded straps in case your get stuck on foot due to the disaster (bad earthquake that breaks up the roads, or snow here in Alaska) and for Alaska, I ALWAYS keep hand / foot warmers with sweaters a few other things for warmth. You’ve never heard of scissors? I’m sorry… I’M SORRY… I didn’t want to be mean.. well ok just that one comment I did 😝! Now that that’s out of my system- onwards You look amazing! I can’t figure out what it is. I’ve seen videos of you with your hair back, so that’s not it… perhaps you’re more confident since the earlier videos, but could that affect your look? No makeup or perhaps there is some; I don’t think you use anything other than “a base” but then maybe you don’t even do that. They say a camera adds 10 pounds, could weight loss affect your face that much? I mean you look amazing, I wasn’t sure it was even you in the beginning of the video. I could tell as the video went on it is you, but the look didn’t change much. Could it be me??? Different topic: I know I’ve covered checking the weight of your trays before, during and after the freeze drying process, but labeling your bags with exactly how much water is needed to rehydrate is very important, this is where the weight checks comes into play. In an emergency, or rather your 3 day prep bag, overuse of water to rehydrate can limit how much water you’ll have for other things. SchoolReports has done an excellent job covering this in his videos and he can explain it better, but in a situation where supplies are limited you won’t be able to reuse excess water from a soup for rehydration of other foods, and you’ll need water on its own to drink and hydrate your body. You cover the other non-food items, sort of, in this video, and I don’t want to mention them other than having a way to heat the water you do have (rehydrating cooked food works better with warm/hot water than cold/temperate water) is a time saver as well as a necessary need. Good video and great ideas. The clouds hardly ever disappear this time of year in MN; seeing the northern lights are a rarity I don’t even bother trying to see due to the overcast sky.
