I feel like demo discs can provide great memories. The Preview Disc did have great demo selections, videos and bonus content for sure. I remember playing the Preview Disc and trying out Billy Hatcher for the first time, but I still never got around to playing the full game of that lol. Thank you for checking out the video!
This was a great idea for a video! Definitely something I haven’t seen before. I remember being so excited for the Metroid Prime 2 demo back then! Demo discs were great back then. I’m happy to have the Rogue Squadron 3 and Zelda Collectors promo disc in my collection today
Glad to hear you really enjoyed the video topic! It’s one I’ve wanted to cover for some time, and I have several other topic ideas I’m excited to cover in the near future. Demo discs were such an awesome experience that so many people nowadays have no idea what that experience was like. Great to hear you have the Rebel Strike and Zelda Collector’s Edition discs in your collection! Thanks again for checking out the video!
Glad you enjoyed it man! This was a video idea I've been wanting to cover for quite some time, and glad to see the reception it's received. Thanks again for checking it out!
I don’t pre order games often but I have the Zelda Collectors Edition that I got off eBay a couple years ago. Yeah, Pre-Orders nowadays sucks and the RU-vid ads only make it worse. Great Topic Video as always man and Happy Thanksgiving/Black Friday Weekend.
That’s awesome you secured yourself the Zelda Collector’s Edition disc! Pre-Orders nowadays are a joke, and lack any true incentive or anything exciting. Glad you enjoyed the video, and hope you had a great Thanksgiving as well!
That was such an informative and fun video to watch. First, I learned why one of the retro stores that I go to has those Zelda bonus discs priced so high. I didn’t know that it was a different version with higher difficulty. I’ve been reading a book about Japanese JRPGs that were never released in the US and The Tower of Duraga came up and here you have it on a bonus disc! How cool.
Glad you found the video informative! Yeah, that’s why the Zelda bonus discs are expensive. That’s awesome you’re reading up about Tower of Duraga! Not a great game, but interesting to try out nonetheless. Glad you enjoyed the video man!
I originally had an indigo GameCube but traded it in just to get a Platinum GameCube bundled with Zelda Collector's Edition. My best friend's first GameCube was bundled with Metroid Prime & the Metroid Prime 2 Echoes Bonus Disc. We played the demo of Metroid Prime 2 for hours!
That's a good trade you did to secure that Zelda Collector's Edition disc! That's awesome your friend got the Metroid Prime bundle with that MP2 demo! It's awesome to have those kind of memories attached to the console. Thanks for checking out the video man!
Pac-Man Vs. is one of the first games I picture when I think of the GameCube. An incredible experience all around - and Pac-Man World 2 is no slouch, either!! Excellent video, my friend!
Oh man, Pac-Man Vs. is such a blast and one of the best multiplayer experiences on the GameCube! And I agree, Pac-Man World 2 is a great game that I really wish Namco would’ve done an HD remaster for already (or more importantly, a new installment)! Thank you for checking out the video and glad you enjoyed it, friend!
I have the Metroid prime bonus disk, Resident Evil 4 with bonus disk and the two bonus Zelda disks. They are all fantastic in their own ways, I agree that pre-order bonuses these days are nothing more than gimmicks that don't amount to much in terms of value for money. I would also men ruin that the gamecube version of Animal crossing gave you access to a library of NES games from within the game playable on the gamecube. Technically though, that is a feature on the actual Animal crossing game disk.
That’s awesome to hear which bonus discs you have! Pre-Order bonuses nowadays are really disappointing and lack any meaningful reason to do so. The NES games are a great part of the GC version of Animal Crossing! Since it’s on the main disc itself though, I kept it out of this topic video. However, it is definitely something I want to cover on the channel at some point! Thank you for checking out the video!
I had the demo of Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 as a kid. My uncle preordered the game as he was thinking of getting a GC but then decided to cancel his preorder when he got my cousin a Ps2 instead so I was left with the disc & case. Tbh the Atari Star Wars arcade game to an 8 year old in 2003 was very underwhelming. Now that I'm 26 I'm really grateful to have it in my collection. I love playing retro games and I could be wrong but I think the Gamecube is the only console to this day to have an arcade perfect port of Atari's Star Wars.
Just seeing this comment now since my YT notifications appear to not work occasionally lol. That's a cool story! I agree that playing the Atari Star Wars Arcade game back then at that age would be very underwhelming, but you said it perfectly. Looking back at it years later, there far more appreciation towards it and having it in the GameCube collection is wild. I believe you are correct. The only place to play a perfect arcade port of Atari's Star Wars (console-wise) is on the GameCube...unless you buy Arcade1up's Star Wars cabinet lol. Thanks again for checking out the video and sharing your story man!
I’ve got two of these, the Star Wars which back then I couldn’t wait to play the arcade version. I also have the Metroid Prime, and the graphics are slightly different on the MP2 preview disc from the final version. Great episode!
Nice! The Star Wars one was really cool for sure, especially since the GameCube was the only place to have a home console port of the original Atari arcade game. Good point about MP2’s visuals in the preview disc versus the final version! Glad you enjoyed the episode!
Thank you man! Yeah, there was quite a bit of pre-order and bonus discs for the console, and this has been a topic I’ve wanted to cover for quite some time. Glad you enjoyed it!
That is true! But that bonus disc was readable on the GameCube, which is why I didn't include it here. Still, 1080 Avalanche in general is an awesome game! Thanks for checking out the video!
Now those were the days... "Here's two Zelda games with your Zelda game, enjoy. Oh, and four Zelda games with your 99 euro Gamecube. Also the best multiplayer game for a Pacman party, free with your other Pacman game." I remember planning a night out with friends back in the Wii days, and we would meet at my place first. We started playing Pacman VS while waiting for the others to arrive. Long story short: we didn't go out and had an absolute blast, made even better by all the wires getting tangled up before we figured out how to prevent that from happening. Ah Gamecube... One day I played DK Jungle Beat, the bongo controlled platformer at our game store, bought it that same day, and despite it being single player only, spent the entire night with friends laughing and clapping and hammering those bongo's together, much to the annoyance of the parents who needed their sleep...
the hype for RE4 was so real, I bought every magazine with previews, and when they called me my preorder was in, I jumped on my bmx, drove to the store in record time (my mothervsaid I should wait until the next day because supper was almost ready, but I was back home and shooting chainsaw wielding villagers by the time it was ready. Food was cold by the time I paused the game though...
I really can’t get over how much has changed in pre-order bonuses for the worse over the years. Back then, it was so much more incentivizing to preorder a game and get another game or cool physical bonus with it. The Zelda bonus discs are among the coolest bonus discs ever made. Even Namco with Pac-Man Vs. being a bonus with some of their game pre-orders (or getting the Pac-Man World 2 Player’s Choice that bundled it) was awesome! Like you said, Pac-Man Vs. is an excellent time! I had a few friends over for a game night a few months ago, and we fired that game up…ended up being such a big hit. I played DK Jungle Beat on the Wii, but not on the GameCube yet. However, a friend of mine actually bought me the bongo controller, so I’m planning on doing an episode covering all the DK games using that controller 👍.
@@samuelc6246 The hype for RE4 was very real for sure! And good call on racing to get your copy! Your food may have been cold, but I bet it was still worth every minute 👍.
@@GameCubeGalaxy Yeah back then, the games were in their final state when released, quality tested and ready (most of the time, or forever bad). Now, pre ordering means you pay full price for the "privilege" of being an unpaid quality tester of an incomplete game, to later on pay for the rest of it if it's worth it or even released at all (dlc), getting some double xp or weapon skin for it, and not knowing whether it's even going to last in case of online experiences. And you always got at least a manual in the box, often fun to look through. I remember repeatedly reading the Golden Sun manuals in their entirety, among many others, or just looking at the screenshots on the boxes. Now even those are collector's items if they even exist at all. On the bright side, I now just wait for reviews, patches, huge sales, used copies, gold editions, or remasters when I overlooked the original release :D I rarely pay over 30 euro's for a game, most of the time I get digital games for under 5. Very rarely pre order anything anymore. As for my food, I just ate as fast as I could and returned to find out whether everyone was going to bingo or not.
Oh man I would love to own that variant of GameCube. Also the RE demo is really cool!!! It was so exciting when the GC started to release the resident evil series. It’s really sad that now if you want something like a real bonus you have to buy a premium edition of the game. Great video on a really solid topic.
That MGS GameCube variant console would be awesome to get. And agreed about the RE demo! It's such a shame that any meaningful incentives that come with a game rely on buying premium editions of games, and that pre-orders have resulted in meaningless digital content. Glad you enjoyed the video man!
Thank you man! At this time, I don’t have any plans for that kind of video. However, if I can get my hands on several physical preorder bonuses, then definitely! Thanks again for checking out the video (and for that great request)!
Great video mate, them Zelda bonus discs were so awesome 👌 I really loved the Rebel strike bonus disc which I’ve actually still got, so cool getting to play the classic Atari game on the cube 🔥
The Zelda bonus discs are still my favorite bonus discs you can get on a console. I wish companies nowadays would revisit this instead of frivolous DLC cosmetics that are hardly enticing. The Rebel Strike Bonus Disc was awesome as well for having the Atari arcade port! I miss these days in gaming...thanks for checking out the video man!
I got Sonic as a bonus for pre-ordering Super Smash Bros Melee… is what I would say if he was added to the game as a pre-order bonus, or if I pre-ordered said game.
I remember the preorder bonus for Windwaker being a huge deal back in the day! The GameCube era did Zelda justice in more ways than one! Super cool that they offered the Arcade version of Starwars! That is a really awesome way to play Pac-Man!! Wow 35 discs to collect for?! I bet LameDad was drooling over the Metal Gear special edition bundle Japan got! I never knew about many of these! To be honest I only knew about the Zelda discs. Yet again schooling me my friend!
Oh man, that Wind Waker preorder bonus was massive. The GameCube era really was an amazing era for Zelda. The arcade version of Star Wars in the Rebel Strike bonus disc is such a great reason to own this disc! Haha, yes, Lame Dad I believe really wants that Metal Gear Special Edition console lol. Thanks for checking out the video man!
I've never owned any of the Pre-Order goodies as I frankly would always buy the games just by going to the store on day one! But I have to admit that at least those bonus were worth it compared to what we have today for the most part! That Metal Gear console though! Didn't even know that it existed! Great video and keep up the good work!
Glad to hear you learned about these pre-order incentives through this video! They really were far better than any pre-order incentives nowadays, which are usually very mundane. The Metal Gear console variant is legit cool though! Thanks again for checking out the video, and glad you enjoyed it!
Great topic to cover, and I really enjoyed the statement on pre-order incentives of today versus yesteryear. Today is 100% digital garbage and nothing to show for a preorder of a specific title. Fun video 👏🏽
Thank you! I had to speak my mind about the current state of pre-orders versus some of the truly amazing incentives during the 6th-generation of game. Digital provides not only a lack of value, but a lack of any tangible memory to associate with the item. Glad you enjoyed the video!
That’s correct actually. While I usually came across those who got this bundle with the platinum console, there were also bundles for this with the Jet Black color as well. Such an amazing compilation to bundle with the console though!
Nice! The MK: Double Dash bonus disc was neat, and more so for the Fire Emblem GBA unlockables. I just recently tried Mario Pinball Land and was really impressed how good it is! Thanks for checking out the video!
Interesting, I wasn’t even aware there was a different bonus disc for Pokémon Colosseum in Japan. Thanks for letting me know, and glad you enjoyed the video!
I don’t have any photos of that Target exclusive Rebel Strike game, but from what I understand, it was packaged with the same preorder disc that GameStop offered in a separate case. What’s interesting is in my “Every Star Wars GameCube Game” episode more recently, the Atari Star Wars arcade game is also unlockable on the Rebel Strike disc itself. Hope this helps, and appreciate you checking it out!
2:45 Adventure of Link. Oops. Also, GC Majora's Mask could crash at any time, had serious sound issues and had bugs not in the original. NOT a good version to get.
Yeah I caught that title mistake after the video posted lol. I wasn’t aware of the GC Majora’s Mask issues, that’s interesting to note. Thanks for checking out the video!
I still remember getting that Jirachi PKMN Colosseum bonus disc after going to Nintendo World. I think it was still called Pokémon Center back then. Wish I still had it. Ended up trading it into GameStop and the employee unknowingly scanned it in as the actual PKMN Colosseum. 🫡
Nice! That’s pretty funny about the GameStop scenario lol. If only people realized how golden of a library the GC would be in terms of value all these years later…lol
@@GameCubeGalaxy Tell me about it, I remember seeing an old GameStop photo circulating of how much GameCube games were being sold for used. It made me sick to my stomach.
