here's a complete breakdown for all the books i read in '23! also on brand bc i forgot to add a couple books to the list as usual :))) (i forgot about half a soul [3 stars] and penpal [2 stars]) buuut this really did balance out with some incredible favorite books and probably the least amount of 'worst books' (with 1 star ratings) so there's that i suppose ha.

2023 has been my worst reading year as well...in general it was shitty year for me. I just can vouch for one book that literally stayed with me and is gonna stay with me for a long time if not forever....the book is called 'Notes on an execution' by Danya Kufaka. So impactful that I had to dm the author to tell her how close and precious the book is to me. That's all that stands out in 2023 for me.

Getting in a reading slump really sucks but I’d say don’t try to force yourself back in either. If you’re not feeling it you’re not feeling it. I took a bit of a reading break earlier in the year and did other things instead, and after a while I was really excited to get back into it again. Maybe your brain is just on strike after Iron Flame 👀

I have not had a good reading year. But I was surprised recently when I gave a book one star and discovered that it was my only one star of the year. To be fair, I don't give them out often because a one star means I didn't like anything about a book and that is rarely the case. But nonetheless it was nice seeing even in a poorer reading year I still only had one one star.

I like to make reading part of my daily habit for mental health. Reading in the morning while having coffee, or taking some time after a stressful day to read and relax with a cup of tea. Reading before bed is a must to help me turn my brain off. I hope you find ways to bring reading into your life in a relaxing way. Maybe re-read a favourite?

With the 2 books that I read by Han Kang, I would say the peculiarity could either be ravishing or bewildering. I 💖 The Vegetarian but I disliked The White Book. 👎🏽
