Salamander are pretty much what would happen if a fireman saves you from a house fire, then heads back inside to murder the fire with a gun and a sledgehammer. Also, the fire is a large flaming demon.
The Director and Producer of the movie “Event Horizon” are huge fans of the 40k universe. And they have admitted their movie is basically a prequel to the Universe.
Fun fact: Starcraft actually started out as a Warhammer 40k game, they just couldn’t get the rights so they changed the lore to avoid copyright infringement. The Starcraft factions mirror the Imperium of Man, the Eldar, and the Tyranids.

Honestly the equipment and weapons a guardsmen has is considered more valuable than any random guardsmen himself and also the golden throne doesn’t just do space travel its just one of the main things it has plenty of other stuff but one of the other important things it does is basically keeping a tsunami size title wave of demons from invading the planet, and also creating what are called imperial Saints which are people basically enhanced by the emperors Powers
I’m not completely sure but I think the emperor,custodes, & gray knights fought the war in the Webbway keeping the demons from invading the palace but then when the emperor had to go fight Horus, Malcador sacrificed himself on the golden throne holding the gateway closed and then after the fight with horus the emperor was put on the throne to continue doing so. I don’t know if the demons are still there or not but I’m pretty sure if the emperor wasn’t sealing that gateway anything could come through
@4:10 When he said "for more than a hundred years" he actually meant 10 thousand. Thats how long Big E has been sitting on The Golden Throne since the Horus Heresy. The Heresy happened in the 30th Millennium. And Warhammer 40k obviously happens 10 thousand years after that. So there is a LOT of stuff the the lore skips over
@@marknewman5659 Is it possible that that's a typo? 10 centuries, or 10,000 years would make more sense than 100,000 years. I mean the world is labeled the year 40,000 so him being half-dead for 100,000 years wouldn't make sense at all
For context: The Adeptus Arbites he said he was going to skip over for being too small are basically like the Judges from the Judge Dredd universe. That's really all you need to know about them. I also highly, HIGHLY recommend that if you are interested in the lore, to check out the Horus Heresy novels, which is kind of where everything begins, during the Great Crusade in the year 30,000.
A lot of the factions, and faction subtypes, are pastiches of popular fiction. Its most obvious today with the Catachans, who are STILL Rambo but an entire planet, but the influences are still there. Pretty much everyone, on some level, has some sort of influence, and its amazing.

You have to keep in mind that the total human population is astronomical numbering in the quadrillions, manpower as we think of it is inexhaustible and the normal human life is expendable in comparison to the rest of humanity, its brutal its hard and its beyond miserable...you guys should read up on the theories and ideas of how humanity is connected to the warp and some of the other lore which would help put the imperiums decisions and actions in context.
Fun fact Star Craft was supposed to be a 40k game.....but GW said fuck it we will do it ourselves and made Dawn of war 1.....thats why Terrians look like space marines. Zerg look like tyranids and protos are a bit of a mix of eldar and tau lol
Starcraft "supposed to be" 40k game is a rumor and NOT true - what is true though (and the reason people mistake one for another by mixing together good ol' "who copied who- WK40 or SC?" debate with the stuff i'll be talking about next) that actually WARCRAFT 1 (1994) was supposed to be a strategy game based in Warhammer Fantasy (not 40k). But GW and Blizzard were not able to reach an agreement - so Blizzard just decided "Ah screw it - we will make our own fantasy universe". And GW didn't say "Fuck it we'll do it ourselves" - because Dawn of War commissioned to Relic Entertainment was released 10 years after WC1 and 6 years after SC1 - during strategy boom of early 2000s - you know the same years when Command and Conquer 3, CnC: Red Alert 3, CnC: Generals, Warcraft III, Earth 21xx series and etc etc etc (and many copies like pretty decent so called "another Warcraft/CnC killer" - "Submarine Titans") - all they were so popular and GW wanted a piece of this tasty strategy pie. Also while once again who copied who is debatable to this day. Tau are clearly out of the picture because SC1 was released in 1998... And GW added Tau to WH40k universe in 2001. Seriously check the facts first - Trivia is fun but if you can't quite remember what is what - simply double check - it is so easy nowadays.
@@Ghostel3591 It's really easy to know who copied who - WH40k existed before Blizzard as a company by four years if you count the company's initial trading name, and predates Starcraft by eleven years.

Heinlein (I'm not talking about 1997s film - i'm talking about book written in 1959 that influenced NUMEROUS sci-fi settings for years to come) - you can clearly see what parts of it inspired what in WH40k and Starcraft. No better source for militaristic human future where conscription grants citizenship! Oh and you also fight bugs. - First "Alien" (1983) film really left a big mark on the industry. And you can see its mark in both Tyranids with "Gene stealer cult" and Zerg with their "Zerg Virus" - which is basicaly adapting "Alien"'s core idea of "ticking bomb" agent among civilians. - And of course the biggest culture influencing creative work... - LORD OF THE RINGS - started in 1937 and was finished in 1949 - that made the foundation of everything that is called Fantasy nowadays instead of "Fairy Tales/Legends". Here you go "copy but change a bit" - new default vision of Elves/Orks/Dwarves/Spiders etc etc. - And other numerous works of Sci-FI and Fantasy made way before 80s when Game Workshop came up with first edition of Warhammer or Blizzard decided to make their own world in 90s. Seriously debates on who copied who is stupid and only works if you think that there is no more sources of inspiration. Otherwise you can say that "Forgotten Realms" - Most people know about it through Robert Anthony Salvatore who wrote books in this setting... That this fantasy world which came to be also in 80s and also included the regular "Elves/Orks/Dwarves/Spiders/Dark Elves" etc etc etc copied or was copied from Warhammer Fantasy or Warcraft as years went by. People who grew up in the same country with the same cultural upbringing and saw/read the same cult classics of their time came up with Fantasy and Sci-Fi universes very similar to each other in core elements... Kinda expected to be honest. As I said before - it is good to doublecheck if you're not sure whether you remember stuff right or your memory played trick on you and pushed something from "I was just discussing it on forums with other people" into "Facts" category.

The space marine legions were turned into chapters after the horus heresy only one thousand space marines in one chapter but some (Space Wolves) dont follow this rule but it is rare
The warp is not hellish as such, its Chaos that is hellish and they are in the warp and somewhat dominant within it, but the Warp is neutral and in of itself is not hellish, just want to make that important distinction, because the warp is just animated by the emotions of beings, and therefore has positive and negative potential
