i find it funny that "Bloody Mary" caused so much issues, when there is literally a episode where jesus is gunned down and killed in Iraq while trying to save Santa.
agreed. It just speaks to the thing Matt and Trey spoke about with the whole Isaac Hayes situation. "How can you be offended by this one thing when we have done so much to offend everybody else?"Being offended is so subjective and arbitrary. And you literally cannot watch and like south park and be offended by some episodes and not other because that just makes you a huge hypocrite.
@@splinte111 I think it caused more criticism, because it was directed at the catholics believe in saints and wonders. Rather than a generalized attack on jesus. Like Christians are used to people making fun of jesus and jesus himself even said that they shouldn’t attack someone on his behalf and that people aren’t at fault for their own disbelief in him. But the Catholic Church values saints and mother marry, because they have suffered for their faith. An ideal Christians still to this day value. And they get defensive when someone is attacking martyrs, wich can’t defend themselves and often even died because they have been attacked for their beliefs. In their head they defend fellow humans not god, who doesn’t need them defending people.
I am from China and being a South Park fan for more than 10 yrs, something might surprise you is that South Park has a huge and solid fan base in China even now. Band in China did change a lot of things, we knew something really bad would happen when we first saw the title of this episode. One hour after this episode came out, everything about South Park was wiped out of Chinese internet, and we were not allowed to post anything related to South Park on social media, or our account will be directly deleted. However we all love this episode, because nobody hates censorship more than us as we are living under censorship. South Park is the best.

I took my Father to see South Park The Movie when it first came to Theaters... He knew NOTHING about South Park and could not BELIEVE what he was seeing. After the movie he told me that after the initial shock , he began to relax and see beyond just the jokes. Anyways, I found out later after he passed away that he began watching South Park and was a big fan up until his passing. I'll never forget going to the movies that day......
Is it just me, or is it actually funnier to have a giant censor bar running around than it is to show some thing that’s offensive for the sake of being offensive.

I've heard of western people going to China and asking the chinese kids about Tianamen Square, none of them had a clue what it was about or have ever heard of it.
One of the craziest things about the Southpark Movie is that they'd pitched tamer ideas, but censors pushed back, so Trey and Matt would send something THEY thought was MORE offensive, and the censors would let it slide. lol
I grew up watching South Park. In high school I remember you could watch every single episode on their website for free so I binged the entire catalog. Something I realized is that everyone is okay with South Park jokes until they’re about them. They make fun of everyone equally but people only realize it when they’re the ones being talked about. It’s an even playing field for everyone
Yes thank you. In prison I would hang a daily meme on the wall for 5 years straight, and they all stayed on the wall until it made fun of black people and then somebody would rip it down. So I hung up one saying "hey, I make fun of everyone up here, all colors and religions, even myself, so if you take these down you're being racist and racists people SUCK". Surprisingly, never got stabbed lol 😆
The original few seasons were legendary. Kick the baby, cartman's mom, mr hanky, mr hat, "it's comin right for us!" Everyone in school loved this show. I actually sent a hand written letter to the local TV station asking them to air it earlier. They sent a letter back thanking me for my input but saying it can't be put on sooner than midnight due to its content.
Them: Wait this title has a curse word in it you can’t show it. Matt and Trey: hmmm, alright. How about bigger longer and uncut Them: alright good Few days later…. Them: WAIT A MINUTE! Them: no!no!no!no!no!(realizes they can’t change it) NO!NO!NO!NO!NOOOOOOOOOOO!
I think the reason the Steve Irwin one was controversial was because he was pretty universally loved, so making fun of him so soon after he died really was in poor taste. No one is sticking up for serial killers though
@@hal0fartporn93 i don't understand this logic. Doing this proves they have no power, attempting to censor it is saying those horrible people still hold power even after death
@@neilchapman5145 We bother animals by simply existing around them. I don't think it's fair to say that about Steve, he had such huge love and respect for animals. The only thing that needs to lose appendages is the stingray that pierced his chest.
it blows my mind that people get so butthurt over cuss words and toilet humor in a cartoon but don't even bat an eye over the legitimate problems in our society and culture that the show depicts.
Well, most people with power are selfish, ignorant, greedy or just dumb. But most importantly, they can't see the bigger picture and care for people around them. And no, I am not saying this to be "edgy", the world would be much better if it wasn't the case. But
True, just because a show has some sick humor, dark humor and toliet humor and is most likely for the sake of satire, doesn’t mean people should take it quite literally and be upset in a huge span, South Park is the last thing we should be upset by in our world today
You nailed it... it's my favourite part about the show... people want to cancel south park, yet don't want to change the world for the better. They make fun of current events. Simple.
Dude I remember so vividly watching episodes 200 & 201 on TV when they first aired. I was only 13 in 2010, so I was SO confused what was going on with all the censorship. There was this one part at the end of 201 where Kyle goes, "You know, I learned something today" and then there just proceeds to be a minute and a half long censor beep. I literally thought my TV was broke so I turned it on on my parent's TV and it was obviously censored there too. It never aired on TV again, and I was so lucky to see it when I did.
Virgin Scientology: No! You can’t make fun of us like that! Now we are going to dig through your past to find anything bad about you! Chad Mormons: That episode was offensive but that was funny. Good job! (DISCLAMER: this is a joke, don’t take it too seriously. You can believe in what you want to believe in)
Mormons are the best! Like, they could sue them for calling them "Dumb" like ten times in the same scene, and they are like ":D Nice! I love that happy family! I will buy a copy of this episode to watch it with my group, so we can talk about tolerance and free speech!"
@@cthulahoops3436 neither am I, the plural for party is parties, not partys also, wrong use of an apostrophe This was a funnier response in my head, sorry lol
When I saw 201 the first time, I initially thought Kyle's long censor beep was intentional and absolutely hilarious. I thought it was too ludicrous to actually be legitimate.
Yeah, why would they beep it out when they could just cut out that section of the film entirely? Just add in another commercial. That was a dumb way to censor.
I remember seeing the uncensored version someone posted from the website’s hidden data, and he says something along the lines of, “I learned that it’s ok to use violence as a tool to get people to do what you want. Alalalalla!!! Alalalalallla!!!!” Pretty uncharacteristic of Kyle tbh
I think the main "issue" with South Park is that you have to watch an entire episode and actually think about it to understand the point they're trying to make. it's like blatant offensiveness stacked together to create a pretty nuanced take away. but watch any clip out of context or watch an episode without critical thinking skills and you come away thinking an entirely different message is being conveyed. I've met a lot of ppl who think South Park is siding with them when they're either against them or making an entirely separate point entirely.
Reminds me of the Butters Bi curious episode. Watching the whole episode is very clear the writers are against those sort of "conversion therapy" camps but I saw some genuienly think what Butters dad did was right.
The mexican flag thing is partially true, here in mexico media is not allowed to use our national symbols at all, there´s even a scene in jumanji where they play our national hymn at a gun shop, they removed it entirely for the latin american dub... That being said, it wouldn´t surprise me Felipe Calderon ordered the episode to be banned because of how it made fun of him, the dude is one of the worst presidents we´ve had in recent times, and he´s a well known alcoholic and w++e beater...
It’s pretty remarkable that the church of Scientology was unable to dig up anything controversial on Matt and Trey. With their resources, surely they would have found something if it was out there.
Just goes to show how much faith you know what (sorry if you think I'm saying the S word; I just don't want people going through my personal life which is none of their business, by the way.) has any faith for the majority of humanity in general.
It's not like they couldn't find something... I mean, they used their resources to investigate deeply and couldn't find anything on the creators of a show that depicts Indiana Jones raped or kids having their ass blasted with machines as "therapy" Think about it and you'll get a chuckle😂
I don’t understand why people get upset when they watch South Park because it literally warns you before every episode like they didn’t tie you down and force you to watch it
They are getting mad now that the joke is on them 😂 the show pokes fun at everything. Prime example: The people in certain religions didn’t get mad when the show made fun of other religions. Only when it was their turn did they get mad.
I also love how the response of two specific groups, Mormons and Scientologists proved by those two groups responses, how much more forgiving each one is. Mormons being family oriented forgiving individuals, vs. Scientologist being vengful, bitter, and generally horrible people.
I was just thinking that. Like Trey and Matt said they knew mormons growing up. So, I think for them it was “well my friend is a mormon so, let’s focus on more on the positive side but still bash them” Scientology was different. They hated it because Isaac Hayes was one, and after his stroke he said he didn’t want to be on the show. (This was his group, of Scientologists who spoke on his behalf, as his son said they do now)
Scientology trying to uncover anything on these 2 is hillarious, mostly because they dont care. Imagine trying to dig up dirt on Geoffrey Dammar to make him look bad
It's especially funny because shit like this is what they made fun of scientology for. The fact they immediately stalked Matt and Trey to dig up dirt on them literally proved their entire point so the scientologists just fell right into their trap and made absolute fools of themselves in the process. The power Matt and Trey have with their criticisms is unparalleled and it's funny watching the people they make fun of immediately go around and prove them right, like in the Band in China episode
So, that 4chan user who found the "glitch" in the South Park Studios site that let him access Kyle's uncensored speech in "201"... Do we think that was actually Matt or Trey? Because if the file was on the website, then they clearly wanted someone to find it, and what better way to ensure that someone finds something than to leak it on one of the Internet's oldest sites, which also happens to have a culture prizing extreme anonymity?
@monkehgamingofficial it was a satirical, and in retrospect, incredibly accurate point about how in the modern day, all you need to do is threaten people with violence in order to get what you want, just how the Islamic group threatened them and Comedy Central, and did in fact get what they want. It's just a critique about how we allow terrorism to work by giving into their demands when they threaten said terror
Whether you want to admit it or not, media does play a role in how children are raised. It’s absurd to think parents can monitor every bit of media their child consumes. While South Park probably wasn’t the sole reason for that day, it most likely was A reason for it

The Le Petit Tourette episode was pretty good show casing that particular disability but as always for every good thing South park has it has something equally offensive.
That's because there was no real controversy. There were concerns about how the show will approach the topic of disabilities but once the first episodes with Timmy and Jimmy aired they actually got praised for how they handled it. The show constantly treats Jimmy and Timmy as what they are: people.
South Park actually seems to get a lot of praise for good disability rep, as it should. As much as it makes fun of everyone they’re surprisingly really good at portraying disabled people as like, actual people with personalities and shit. As a person with Tourette’s, Le Petit Tourette is one of my favorite episodes.
My dad was an adult when the ginger episode aired. I was a child and watched it. Call it bad parenting if you want, but between the two of us, I was the one who understood the message was anti-hate while my dad decided ginger was a slur and always had been. We're both redheads. He used the episode as evidence of redhead hate despite neither of us ever being bullied for being redheads (quite the opposite, we both get regular compliments about how lovely our hair is). Foolish adults have often misinterpreted South Park because they don't understand what satire and sarcasm are.
I used to watch with my kids. Then we'd use whatever the topic to start a discussion. Kid friendly only applies to things that kids are going to watch without being prepared to discuss those things later. I wouldn't have appreciated the kids watching without those discussions. Your dad seemed to miss the point entirely. I grew up with All In The Family, where they used humor every week, to tackle real world issues that were far from humorous.
I'm glad you didn't get any hate for it, because as a redhead, that episode got me and two of my redheaded friends bruises on our shins from our classmates, for as young as fourth grade all the way up until eighth grade. I got called soulless and a witch in high school for my red hair, as the only redhead in the grades. Nothing so far in college, but I'm not done yet, so you never know.
I feel like with the Steve Irwin bit, it was mainly a bad thing due to just how big of a figure he was in Australia. I can’t exactly remember what happened, but the day everyone found out what happened, everyone was driving slow on roads or something to that effect, it really hit the country in the gut. He represented australia as a whole, with how he would wrangle wild animals so easily while also treating them respectfully. It’s kinda hard to compare him to someone since America is kinda shitty when it comes to that with people always ending up controversial or some other bullshit, but to Australia, Steve Irwin was probably the nicest guy on earth while also being able to wrestle crocodiles. I’d say give it a year before airing stuff like that, that man was like Jesus resurrected with the ability to arm wrestle bears n shit
I’m a ginger and yeah, I received a lot of bullying because of that South Park episode. I don’t blame the creators though. I loved South Park and I still watch it. I think that it’s great that they really push the limits in their episodes. However, kids took it literally and I blame the kids who were stupid enough to take this episode seriously. I did at least call one of my bullies a dumb blonde since he was bringing up a hair color stereotype. 😂
18:26 after all these years I still can't handle the fact that they wrote THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGIST ACTUALLY BELIEVE across the screen. Without it, I wouldn't have believed that someone would actually believe this fever dream of a bad science fiction author.
I mean people also believe that some white dude in the sky is like "you best not fuck before you put a ring on that bitch, lest ye incur my wrath". The entire concept of religion becomes more and more ridiculous the more scientifically advanced we get. Or at least the concept of "organized" religion, where large groups all believe the exact same thing. I've got nothing against people that are simply spiritual and believe something of their own choosing, but I've seen too many religious fanatics to give church as a whole the benefit of the doubt.

That doesn't track. South Park literally made a character who swears constantly but since you can't understand him, it passes and they killed him every episode for like the first 5 seasons and movie. It's controversial with the opposite crowd, which would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. It went from overbearing church moms and stuck up prudish conservative zealots to stuck up prudish "liberals" (very heavy quotes there) who cry every form of phobia and ism they can when they see literally anything they don't like. Human beings will be easily offended pussies. Be it they cry homophobia, or blasphemy.
Depends id say. Just because it criticizes everyone doesn't mean it gets across a good message and that people getting mad aren't right in doing so. Every topics should be discussable, but as is the case with the ginger episode, delivery can certainly be the subject of valid criticisms.
Honestly I feel like if I were a celebrity and made fun of on South Park I'd be clapping and laughing my ass off and even thank Matt and Trey for the honor of being able to be depicted on South Park. The one thing I respect South Park for the most is that there is no sacred cow. Everything is allowed to be made fun of. I gotta say something about the redhead Cartman episode, saying that it singlehandedly set off a worldwide thing. The ginger thing has been around for a very long time. As a kid with neon red hair, I got mad flak in the 80s and 90s. I went to multiple schools due to moving a lot, and it was the same at all places, so it wasn't just a one-off thing. As some form of an attempt at consolation, older people would tell me about other people they knew that were teased for having red hair. It's discussed in the book Anne of Green Gables (published in 1908), where Anne, a redhead, was teased at school for her red hair. I'm sure a plethora of examples exist for other places and times as well. I know there were jokes about teasing redheads and redheads not having souls in British comedy shows prior to this SP episode. The SP episode may have brought it to light somewhat, but it certainly didn't kick off a worldwide trend.
French philosopher Montesquieu mentions in his 1748 book The Spirit of Law that Ancient Egyptians (supposedly) killed all redheads, as a way to show the absurdity of enslaving black people (which btw is not too far from what South Park did). So yeah, it's a very old idea.
I imagine that's the exact reason why they chose red heads to target in that episode, as opposed to, say, blondes or something. Like, South Park didn't just decide to poke fun at red heads for no reason lol. It was definitely a thing long before that episode, like you said.

It’s really difficult to describe how cool South Park was when it first came on. First of all, you had to have Comedy Central and essentially no one had Comedy Central back then…so you’d have to go to a friend’s house. The show was unlike anything that came before it…not necessarily in its offensiveness but just that it rang totally true. The kids talked like we did, the situations were ridiculous and the entire adult cast was almost impossibly stupid. For 13 year old me, it was a *total* revelation. I don’t remember the controversy of its early existence so much as it feeling truly countercultural and hip.
The China Problem is brilliant. The “assault scene” just depicts what fans of Indiana Jones were seeing what was doing to one of their favorite childhood characters. The scene is also a not so thinly veiled reference the film The Accused , which gives another layer to how clever this episode is.
32:56 I'm trans, I didn't see the episode as transphobic. I can see HOW it could be seen that way but I didn't see it that way because it's not about a trans woman, it's about someone using real trans people as a scapegoat for their own hatred and manipulation
It’s also about how women can be hurt by things that are meant to be inclusive but are poorly thought out or understood. I thought the episode handled several themes including what you pointed out elegantly in their own crude way.
Personally I don't believe this show is transphobic, they basically covered that in the scene where Sheila explains to Kyle why ppl get sex change operations and he's like "oh cool that makes perfect sense" (before he and Gerald get carried away). HOWEVER I can kinda see how ppl get the idea that the show kinda paints transgender ppl as "phonies" bc in cases like Garrison, Heather Swanson, Cartman, etc, basically any time the show brings them up, the "trans" character has an ulterior motive for transitioning or smth. As stereotypical as some depictions of homosexuality are in this show a la Big Gay Al and Mr. Slave, there are also many good organic depictions such as Tweek, Craig and Satan. I'm sure if the show had at least 1 genuinely trans character like them, ppl wouldn't claim the show is transphobic so much bc that sounds like bullcrap to me. Just my 2 cents
I agree, I think the representation in the past for trans character in South Park (and basically everything) was far worse than more recent attempts. South Park is interesting since you get to watch the views of the creators become more nuanced and even empathic as the series progresses. Such as how they use to make fun of global warming warners with Man Bear Pig but eventually doubled down on that admitting that the vicious mutant pig was real. With satire there is a sense of responsibility that a lot of people understate, so it's nice to see the show acknowledging it's past faults in some ways, but I feel they need to go further with acknowledging their past history of transphobia even if it's just indirect through making fun of transphobic individuals
The sex change operation episode was really genius. Depicted the absurdity of it pretty well. Think you're a dolphin or a black basketball player? Well changing your looks and anatomy won't get you far, best thing you can do is go swim with dolphins or just play basketball 😂
Fun fact, when the Muhammed cartoons controversy was happening, the man that got it as worse as it did in Denmark, Ahmed Akkari, fled to Narsaq, Greenland for couple of years and worked as a English teacher where I graduated from. I didn't get to have him as a teacher, but my little sister did and actually liked his classes.
the reason the mormons didn’t care about the episode is bc they actually portrayed it extremely accurately. most people don’t know south park is a real place in colorado and it’s where the creators grew up. that place has a lot of mormons in it so they are pretty knowledgeable on the religion
there's a sizeable fraction of Mormons here in the UK. I once asked a couple of the young elders about the episode and one of them just burst out laughing and said "yeah that was pretty funny". They also thought the musical was pretty funny too.
The only time I genuinely held my hand over my mouth and said "oh my god" over and over (while laughing) was during the ending of It's a Jersey Thing when Al Qaeda flew commercial jets into the crowd of Jerseyites. It wasn't the most shocking thing they'd ever done but for some reason I was sure it'd be banned
Hahaha that's the only episode I really remembered from watching it as a kid, probably being 11 or 12. Most hilarious thing I've ever seen on television 😂 getting your enemy to help you in difficult times, and then them doing it "their way" 🤣 And Japanese killing Whales and Dolphins because US said they nuked them, and later making them believe it was cows and chicks so they become "normal" 🤣 Only 2 I remembered. Rewatched everything last year with 21.
@@daniel_960_ I remember watching this in early 2000s as a kid when it came out. It's crazy to think with all the controversial topics it's has it's still on it's only 2 years younger then me
man i remember watching that when it aired and started cheering just because of how much i hated jersey shore and how everybody talked about it when i was in school. I just don't get "reality" TV especially since you can just pay people without scripting and follow them around to see them act like trash. Though at least they got him at the end of the episode.
it took me sec to realize it but to be fair when you spend so long watching a show especially when you start watching when your young those jokes tend to go over your head until your actually looking for meaning of the joke
The thing you forgot to mention about the movie was, They got pissed off at the demands of the MPAA so they started submitting even worse cuts as a "fuck you" to them and they ended up getting approved. Trey even went on record as saying the movie was MORE offensive than they had originally planned as a result of them messing with the MPAA and a lot of scenes were added that never even meant to be there like the Brian Boytano song.
Not only that, but the MPAA tried the EXACT same shit when they made Team America: World Police. However, I heard that Matt and Trey were 5 steps ahead of the MPAA. They made the "sex scene" in Team America extremely long and uncomfortable from what I heard (I don't remember, but I think it was like 3 to 5 minutes long). The scene was edited 9 times before it was given an R rating. Funny thing, all the things "cut" were things they didn't even want in the movie anyway, so made the MPAA "think" they won by censoring the movie, when in reality, in the end, Matt and Trey won. I think this is one reason why Matt and Trey haven't released any more movies to theaters as the MPAA would probably slap an NC-17 right away just because they are pissed at them. Seriously, fuck the MPAA. They are nothing but a censorship organization anyway.
31:58 as a trans girl, i find this funny as hell. They portray this particular trans woman exactly how transphobes think they look, which i find hilarious
As a trans guy, I just find South Park’s episodes about trans people to be hilarious all in all- I think that South Park offers some level of social commentary and opens the door to normalizing a lot of things.
Pretty sure the controversy w Steve Irwin was that people were pissed off that the show was kinda implying that a guy most ppl saw as a good guy would be in hell with serial killers like that...
As an Australian, it was definitely more what was said in the video, though I recall it being described as "someone dressed up as Steve Irwin" and not that it was Steve Irwin in most news stories covering it
I always thought the Steve Irwin bit was a great way to poke fun at how people pretend to be sad when a celebrity dies. Satan confronts Steve Irwin saying he thinks his outfit is offensive because Irwin just died. After Steve explains he's the real Steve Irwin, Satan tells him he has to leave because it's a costume party lol. I vaguely remember people judging the way the Irwin handled animals and many comedians made fun of him for it. So to see people flip to his side entirely after his death was weird. I wonder if Matt and Trey had this in mind or if I'm just reading too much into it. Regardless I think the joke is more relevant today with it feeling like celebrities die more often.
I've been binging south park and they had a whole episode later that aired back in 09 that poked fun at a bunch of celebs when a lot of celebs died like billie mayes and michael jackson and they never did any like sad bits at all it was just for Steve Irwin it was a def just a jab at the people that get fake sad
I've always felt that the Church of Scientology played a huge roll in the death of Mr. Isaac Hayes. He apparently was forced to sign waivers declaring NOT to perform medical services on him after his stroke. With the church stating his health concerns were "minor". Yeah that didn't work out so well did it....? And this seriously got swept under the rug. Pure sadness. The show isn't as great without Chef. His presence played a large portion of humor for the show. Since day one!!! Chef was there!! "Hello Children" was one of my favorite lines. The way he said it even though there was only one person he was speaking to. An amazing person (Hayes) is gone but immortalized in our hearts 💕🥰 and not forgotten.
I remember watching the sp movie in the theater and seeing people walk out while the movie was playing the scene of characters walking out of the tarrence and Phillip movie. It was surreal.
Bigger Longer Uncut was the hardest I laughed in my life. The only regret I had is I didn't get to see it with my friends, I was 18 and they were still only 17. Totally worth it
I used to have an English teacher who had plushes of all the main characters and anyone who wore a hoodie was permanently renamed to Kenny, almost every lesson had a South Park reference. She even called a fat kid cartman once but luckily the kid didn't catch on or complain but you could tell she regretted saying it right away.
The school shooting episode bringing awareness to the fact that we have become desensitized to school shootings because of the frequency of them definitely caused a lot of controversy in the media. I really think the reason everyone was mad about the episode is because they wouldn’t put right say they got called out but would go onto say the points were not true
I'm a minority The one thing that separates SP from other shows is the fact they say offensive stuff on EVERYTHING Lgbt, straight people, white people, black people, billionaires, poor people and more Basically this show doesn't glorify any points of views it critics all of them, right or wrong. So in the end it's clear as glass that the show clearly has no "opinion" if none are glorified
there’s a difference between SP and stand up for example as well. It’s an abstract view of people and politics that exist. It’s a fictional world effected by real life politics. it’s really clever
in my opinion that kinda gives the show little value, like they dont ever really seem to believe anything they just wanna make people mad. i see that as more harmful than entertaining but thats just me.
22:55 It's funny that Catholic organizations were offended by this episode from season 9, when "Red Hot Catholic Love" from season 6 is arguably a way more offensive depiction of the Catholic church, directly satirizing their history of covering of sexual abuse by priests.
the alcoholism episide was kinda poking fun at "Christianity" as a whole. when Stan goes to AA to tell them to stop indoctrinating his dad he points out that AA is kind of an extension of church in how it says they have to submit to a higher power.
Most early aa programs were heavy on religion which if it works for you then good but someone who grew up with 0 religion is going to feel totally helpless thankfully most rehab program stopped with he church based ideas
@@tettproctor7377 which is one of the reasons SP is liked so much. Its their "it's all funny or non of its funny" approach, at least thats why I love the show. I get a little tired of the social commentary, but at least they maintain that approach. Which is why the Mohammad episode is such BS on comedy centrals part. At least the cartoon wars episode didnt get "get 1 episode pulled" scenario right in this instance.
@@jace2802 eh imo AA and NA are still way too religious based. Which is understandable, the 12 steps were made by a Christian with Christianity in mind, and there is an effort to making it more applicable to non religious people which is good. But in my experience it goes "the 12 steps say you have to give in to a higher power, now that doesn't have to be God (wink wink), could be anything, but for me it's God" type deal. SMRT recovery is a better option for non religious people imo
The Mormon episode was one that really made me take a good hard look at myself and I was disappointed by what I saw. The entire episode, I laughed at the description of the church and looked down my nose at the family, just like the boys did--and that final monologue could have been directed at me. It was like a slap in the face, but one I needed, apparently.
This, it doesn't matter what one believes, or don't believe, what matters is the outcome of being a good person. A lot of people (religious or otherwise) really could do well with that reminder.
33:42 I’m a trans man and i personally don’t think this episode is transphobic because heather only transitioned for revenge I don’t get how people COULD see this as transphobic since it doesn’t make any logical sense
It always blows me away that South Park, of all things, is probably the best example of satire in popular media. It's insane how stupid and smart this show is at the same time. My personal favorite episode has to be "Chef Goes Nanners." Modern outrage culture could learn a lot from it.
