John Mulaney said when they were writing the Update bits for Stefon, after rehearsal, he'd sneak new, crazy lines onto the cue cards without Bill Hader's knowledge, just to see if he'd lose it. Magic!

His jaw line and cheek bones are amazing... He just has such striking facial features! He's also super endearing, genuine and humble, and he has the best laugh and is just super nice. He's pretty much perfect. Not to mention he's hilarious! 😍😊

When he mouths "Where's that music coming from?" in the holiday one, I always lose it. The funniest Stefon bits for me are the little charactery things that Hader does between the club descriptions.
No. Stefon is a drugged up insane homeless guy. I agree with Bill Hader that in this format he’s hilarious, but a Stefon movie would just be depressing.
That "hoombas" line gets me everytime, specifically because you can clearly see on Bill's face the moment the cue cards are switched and he sees the conclusion of the joke before actually saying it.

Mary Allgier he doesn’t. Mulaney,who created the character always changes his lines on the cue cards right before they go live ,so he can get Bill Hader to break, as the producers noticed that the audience loves it when he does that. Also , Mulaney said that Bill Hader hates it when he breaks character because he is very professional. Whenever Stefon is on I always die to see what crazy things he’s gonna say.

I seriously died the first time I heard it I was cracking up just seeing him break and then when he finally got it out I could not stop laughing especially cuz I started visualizing a little person on a skateboard eating garbage 😂
I would love a mashup of just the names of the clubs Stefon recommends. Also I just realized I’ve seen enough Bill Hader interviews to catch that one bar name is his impression of a dying Tauntaun from Star Wars.
@Luke Sanchez normally drag queens come up with drag names like Kim Chi or Penny Tration so the joke is that the drag queen just put "in a dress" behind their name instead of coming up with a new stage name
stefon is my comfort character. whenever im sad, overwhelmed, angry, whathaveyou, i watch stefon. between bill and john's genius (and bills attractiveness, ngl) i always smile and end up feeling way better. in other words, *THANK YOU BILL AND JOHN!!!!* of course, my entire family calls me obsessive when im literally preventing some depression✌️😌✨
The funny thing is Stefon is 100% a real type of person in NYC I was drunk with my friends in upper east side and this coked up guy came bursting out of a pizzeria and ranted got five minutes about how we should hop in a cab to go to this club in Turtle Bay that “has it all, three floors of rock and roll all night, hookers, strippers, drugs, seriously, ALL THREE FLOORS are filled with sex and drugs, everything you need, rock and roll all night hop into that cab to Turtle Bay” We joke about that encounter to this day, and here I am years later just discovering Stefon on RU-vid and everything make sense now
after a pickup line like that, I'd totally let him smooch me XD The beauty of it is the "How long you been carrying around that button?" "ALLLLL year" and the face slaps were pure gold. Comedy came in 3's and I think I did too

One of the best SNL characters without a doubt. He is so funny and I love that these two guys always crack up during each sketch. They always try and reign it in but you can see they totally bounce off each other. Comedy gold.
