To be fair, as well known as he is, there's a lack of events and writer/artist runs that can be collected. The only ones that come to mind are the Byrne Man of Steel run and Superman by Geoff Johns. As much as I love Swan, I don't think they would do an Omni for that. They did Exile since.
DC does a lot of deluxe editions too, which is where a lot of solo Superman stories are collected like Secret Identity, Red Son, etc. Also, Kingdom Come is pretty much a Superman story.
Maybe because the current trend of "heroes " is selfish, narcissistic and alcoholics like iron man. Superman is " too good and boring" is what I hear from the teeny boppers nowadays
The Siegel & Shuster vs. DC Comics lawsuit over characters/rights/royalties keeps us from getting the omnibus type collections of issues from silver age foward. Best source of those is the DC Archives editions of hardbacks but its verrrrrry limited.
jla for sure. thx and what an amazing collection. I just bought four epic collection books and thought I was doing good till I saw your stuff. LOL thx again.
Death and return of Superman comics is what got me into comics. Had all the comics for when they came out, they all got stolen years later so had to recollect/buy all the issues again once eBay became a thing as it was easier to find them. Really want the Prime 1 Cyborg Superman 1/3 coming out in 2020.
Hey your video was super helpful because it is my first time buying comics and i wanted to get superman and wonder woman comics then i discovered the omnibus volumes , i am still abit confused. If i get the volumes i basically get the first comics written on superman till the end ? Tnx
I don't remember much about For Tomorrow. I remember loving the art, but the story was some alternate or future dimension Zod invading the current time.
There was an earlier edition of Death of Superman that was very different that the one you have. Smaller dimensions and half as much content too. I think it was the first real DC omnibus though. Superman For Tomorrow was kind of a follow up to Batman Hush. Hush was such a huge hit they wanted to have a Jim Lee Superman story to capitalize on the popularity.
I hope you've read your favourite Superman story since this video because Eradicator Superman wasn't a clone! 😉 I still have all the single issues for the whole 1993 run. It was the start of my comic collecting.
The only thing Absolute Superman for tomorrow has is that sweet, SWEET Jim Lee art. IMO the story was garbage. Read it as it came out. Part of me wants to get the absolute JUST for the amazing Lee art, but I don't know if i can justify it even at half price with how bad the story was (as I remember it, to be fair it has been what, a decade or more since it came out)
