Am I the only 1 here who wishes and would've loved if the Thomas & Friends CGI series takes place in the present day? (And actually ever since that video of what if the CGI series continued video, also ever since 2020 part of me really would love the CGI series actually taking place in the present day) be honest I can't be the only 1 who wants MATTEL doing that.
No surprise about CGI…some of the movies were really good but even episodes are just copy and paste repeats usually involving Thomas and the lessons never stick like in the books and model series
Once I showed Hero of the Rails to a friend for the first time, and then Blue Mountain Mystery a few weeks later, and he noticed that they both have a plot point where Thomas & co have to keep the spotlighted new character hidden from authority figures.
I like this way of tackling the movies instead of just reviewing what you like and dislike about them. The hero's journey is a very well-tested formula and Thomas can do it very well if it's got the right minds behind it. I also think TGD was Thomas' best film as a character alone, We see all sides of his personality and his arc is absolutely brilliant. Good stuff!
This is kind of weird because despite every single Thomas movie being about something different in reality that are all really not too different from each other. The same thing goes for other movies that use this type of trope as well. This was a great video Adam and it really enlighten me on this type of writing that the people on the show use to actually create these movies. Keep up the good work man.
Something I always noticed in CGI Thomas movies from as a kids' perspective is that the climax to the very end is always in the let's go sequence there is always a rescue sequence or a battle between the main villain. They kinda feel repetitive unlike Miller era season logic, its the choices of main characters. Villain: "Day of the diesels", "Hero of the rails", "Blue Mountain Mystery", "Sodor's legend of the lost treasure" and "Journey beyond Sodor". Rescue: "Misty Island rescue", "King of the railway", "Tale of the brave", "The Adventure Begins", "The Great race" and "Big world big adventures".
I wish Gordon was the protagonist of the Great Race, James and Henry were the protagonists of Journey Beyond Sodor, Diesel was the protagonist of Day Of The Diesels, Edward was the protagonist of The Adventure Begines and Bash Dash and Ferdinand were the antagonist of Mysty Island Rescue
If Mattel wasn't so afraid of making movies that don't revolve around Thomas all the time (which can sound ironic) we'd probably have more good movies but alas, we were robbed.
@@SammySesame I'm 100% sure a lot of the problems we have/had in the franchise in terms of them being very inconsistent in their character and/or making more corporate trash, started with the Hit Era.
@@casbrowne9055 I mean they're definitely mentors as they know more about how misty island operates, plus he has to make amends, so he needs his brand new friends todayyyy helpin every way
Honestly the idea that every story is the same doesn't stick right with me, I know that's not exactly what's being stated and the reason the hero's journey applies to a lot of stories is because it's kinda vague, but I dunno. Another great vid covering something I didn't expect to see in a Thomas video.
That was a very unique way to present the movies and seeing your own creative wheel for the Hero's Journey does help me out with some structures for my own connected media world and its lore.

If you had to count the Royal engine, how do you didn’t mention other double episodes like: Steam Team to the rescue Digs and discoveries And Marvelous Machinery
I think the movies that could most likely be a tetralogy are The great discovery Hiro of the rails Blue mountain mystery Sodors legend of the lost treasure What do you think
Uhh I ran this through basically every movie I could think of and I worked. I think misty island rescue, a Christmas movie and a murder mystery police movie aren’t exactly the same. That’s just the plot of every movie
I feel like most of the Thomas movies are overrated. Magic Railroad, Misty Island Rescue and Day of the Diesels I have fond childhood memories of, and The Great Race and Journey Beyond Sodor were some of the most recent Thomas things I really liked.
You could argue though that thomas and sir topham not knowing their way to london is the foe of the royal engine, i guess? I mean, you counted thomas being stuck on misty island as the foe of misty island rescue
Really nice take on covering the movies. For me, the ones that do the trope best by their qualities overall, must be nailed down to 'The Great Discovery' (though I felt even as a kid that the whole Thomas-Stanley conflict took after 'Toy Story'), 'Blue Mountain Mystery', 'Tale of the Brave', Thomas's arc in 'The Great Race' and 'Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure'. A nice leeway I think to a reminder that, two months ago, I submitted to Mattel's CEO an ambitious production pitch proposal for a retro-Thomas & Friends revamp. Subject to further development, which acknowledges seeking approval from the Awdry family themselves, since I developed it with the original vision of the franchise in mind. The hint from this video that relates to it is how I explore the 'hero's journey'. Think of what they tried, but did not completely do in exploring multiple arcs in 'The Great Race'; I actually worked out the character concepts before I was firmly settled with the nature of the storytelling required to bridge them together to make a seamless whole. Both World Wars are brought up as backdrops. The other thing I'll mention, related to 'The Adventure Begins', is that the opening episode outline for my pitch is a fresh take on how Thomas and Edward befriended each other, using the Rev. Awdry's published lore material as a base, plus a real-life accident I discovered online, which I referenced in my pitch. Well that explains Diesel 10 went insane in the Magic Railroad also speaking of the magic railroad I wish this movie had more characters and locations from the tv show
I think if 'bad' Thomas movies were combined with a few adjustments then it would make a great Thomas movie. It wouldnt beat Blue Mountain Mystery though.
