Never in my 60 years have I been hypnotized, captivated, addicted to a singer. This girl leaves me speechless even after listening to the same song over and over. I think Gary Swee below hit the nail on the head. It's not usually because Angelina sings the song that different from the original that makes it her own. It's not necessarily how we hear it, or see it, but it is ALWAYS about how we FEEL it. No one, and I mean no one, can make me emotional like Angelina does when she sings. No one can reduce my stress like Angelina can instantly. No one can make this 78 year old man tearful time after time. She takes me with her to her special place that she says is "amazing." I don't need a detailed description, but I can feel I am there with her. Those are the things that make this precious young lady so special to me.
SHE brings every inner spirit that each song was ever sung in past at the same time its a PARADOX because her own voice adds to the art of each song even more.
She just gives me chills everywhere, every time I listen to this. So delicate, so precise, every vowel and consonant carefully held or dropped, whatever the emphasis requires. The notes sounded exactly the way they should be, vibrato or pure, a slide here or there. And on and on, past perfection!
Angelina is a master of her craft...when she's used her raspiness and growls in the past it was intentional ...she knows exactly what she's doing...she effortlessly changes her styles in her songs to reflect how she wants us to feel...her voice is liquid gold...she also is a wonderful humanitarian as well♡
When she covers a song, she respects the original artist. Sometimes she makes some minor changes to the lyrics, like in Back to Black, sometimes some very minor changes in the melody and tempo, but remains true to the original. But the real difference I think is the fact that she considers what the song is trying to communicate, and she becomes the storyteller of the song, she becomes part of the song, and communicates in a unique way the emotion of the song, and in THAT she (very) often does better than the original artist. She brings out the real soul, the spirit of the song, so that the listener also feels the emotion. As she sings, if you didn't know better, you would think she wrote the song herself, or has gone through and felt personally whatever the song is about. And yes, she makes it all look so easy. Others sing the song, she sings the story. She said herself that before she sings a song, she goes into that special world of hers, and thinks about the song, and then sings it. While others are thinking about getting the notes right, she's thinking about the story.
I'm in agreeance with you here. In addition, Angelina is in command of all the tools in her varied vocal abilities. As one reactor recently said 'she knows her voice and knows when to use its full effects'. I think this comment acknowledged her highly regarded and highly coveted vibrato skills. It is this skill (the timing and correct use of vibrato) that elevates her to a genre of music all by herself.

Every time Angelina sings I feel as if nothing exists but her beautiful voice and radiant soul. She seems to somehow know exactly how I need to hear a song and sing it just for me. She envelops me and gently lifts me into her world taking away all the worry, all the stress, all the terrible truths life can impose and for a short while they no longer exist. Afterward I feel calm, centered, at ease and wistfully happy. I find myself often listening spontaneously to Angelina in my head. Sometimes she comes to me while I am performing some tedious task. Sometimes she comes when I am tired or in distress. Sometimes I'm merely enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the dawn and there she is, unbidden but so very welcome, to share the start of a new day. When I first "discovered" Angelina I experienced feelings very close to jealousy when reading the comments of others regarding her. It was as if I didn't want to share the intimacy I felt toward her. I am glad that I quickly realized she fills everyone with such joy that we simply cannot contain it. There is so much joy in her that no matter how many love her there is always an equal portion for each and sharing that joy is exactly its raison d'être. Thank you for your continuing reactions. Angelina is special to me. She is not afraid of open my soul. You can always hear that it is Angelina although she sings different in each song. But I always have this unique tone that is only Angelina
I think Angelina hears the beautiful melody of each song-- then she likes music to be only simple background music while she uses her voice to make the melody. She uses her voice to express the emotion of the song. Magic.
Along with her amazing singing voice she is able to engage your emotions without being flamboyant. Unlike most young singers and some adults, she doesn’t have to belt to impress her audience. She can belt when the song requires it as in “Feeling Good”. This performance is one of my many favorites.
Yes i agree, she is a storyteller and often slow down the Tempo to give her more room to "paint" the words with her rich voicetoolbox. That makes her Interpretation so interesting and emotional 🥰🤗💖 Everytime she tried to make us smile and feel love. She sings for us and not for herself.

Although we strain to define Angie's abilities in terms of audio, I like to refer to her as the 3D version of everyone else's 2D. She adds an undefinable dimension. And, I love it.
Hi Emmanuel, You ask a very difficult question. To me, most singers that I listen to, sing to me from their mouth and it goes into my head. With Angelina, she sings from her heart and it enters my soul.
On Fanclub Mosarz there are several clips with Angelina before and after big concerts and TV shows. In all, she looks like either a girl on a relaxing picnic with her family, or on vacation. You can not see that in an hour she will be on a big stage, or just have been it.
I don’t know how she does it, but I listen to the lyrics more when she sings than when others sing the same song. And then there are the times when the song has different meaning from just the way she sings it. 💜
That's true Diane. It is particuliarly the case in California dreaming, where slowing the song, it becomes a very nostalgic song, although the original was so positive.
Angelina was destined for fame the moment she sang her first song "Gloomy Sunday" for the public in 2014. This child knew she had it, and wanted the chance to show everyone. Finally her mother agreed to let her audition.. When she won, you could see the look of pride on her mothers face. The rest is history The beginning of a LEGEND. Angelina Jordan SUPERSTAR... Nice reaction! Good attempt to understand what makes Angelina different from other singers. I'm not sure we can name it. But we certainly can feel it. What she does, why she does it and when she does it comes from her unique feel for the song. She,then, graciously, shares that part of her magical musical world (dare we say, part of her soul) with us. It's not the same process every time, but the result is the same--an intimate connection to the meaning of the song (her perceived meaning) so we each feel like we are sharing individually something special with her. She connects to each of us as few (maybe no) other singers can. When she says hi or bye, I feel like she is saying that to me, not to a crowd. I think that is why most reactors wave back even though they know they can't be seen by her. She generates personal connections through her humanity and humility. What an amazing talent! What an amazing person!
She has said she goes to a special place and feels very happy when she sings, and even though she's singing sometimes about sad situations, she brings that joy into her understanding of the song's music as well as its lyrics. I think you said it well - she graciously shares her magical musical world.
I totally agree with your comment that when she waves it's directed to each of us individually. One doesn't even have to understand the lyrics to internalize the feelings she communicates. At times, you can mute a video of hers and still be affected. When she sang You Were Always on My Mind, her subtle glances at her grandpa's picture and the sadness on her face as the song progresses is heartbreaking. You just want to give her a big hug.
Hi Emmanuel! I really liked and share most of the concepts you shared about what makes Angelina special. One aspect in particular is what many of her fans cherish is her genuine, unassuming personality. She is indeed very approachable and attracts the viewer/listener to connect with her art. No frills, no gimmicks. A guitar and her voice is all that's needed, although she has some amazing performances with a jazz ensemble or even an orchestra. This particular performance is exquisite! There's a comparison video made between her and Ella that says it all. She has an innate sense of musicality, she savours the words and gives them special meaning, she uses her many vocal resources as the song needs, never overdoing it. All of this can't be taught, it's ingrained in her after listening to this music since she was a toddler and, of course, because she has an outstanding ear! Hello Emanuel. You said she wouldn't sing all the songs as if it were her own. I once again looked at many of her songs on the inside. And I had to fix, you're absolutely right. She has the gift of singing the soul of every song what it says. And that's what makes them so unique. Therefore, the songs she makes a cover of sound as if they were her own. No and that's why I say she sings the soul of the songs and that is exactly what fascinates and attracts us. And in my eyes, or ears, it's a lot harder than just singing it, or singing something different.

I enjoyed your analysis Emmanuel. This performance was Angelina's farewell to Norway as she was about to go to live in LA. I think that explains the more animated facial expressions, smiles etc. I think that Angelina is on the path of all great jazz musicians which involves learning the performances of the greats of the past and gradually developing her own style. The amazing difference with Angelina is that she has developed her own style at such a young age.

One of the judges at the Norway talent contest told Angelina that she has a special style at such a early age and to protect it. As a ordinary listener I knew she was terriffic, but did not know she already had a special style. I guess I first noticed it when she was age 10 during her outdoor concerts in Norway when she sang before huge crowds, She made it look so easy. Her confidence level was amazing. For her it was a walk in the park. If she is not world famous by age 18, then something is wrong with today's music fans It is time someone like Angie come along, and sings decent songs that are fit for young ears. She is a hero in my book.

You can see and feel she loves what she is doing. It just can't help but make a marvelous song more personal to the viewer (listener). This is a warm caress and not that different from Ella, just enough to help us love both even more.
Angelina has a marvellously sweet tone to her voice that is quite unique. I don't know if it is just natural or if she does it deliberately. It may be a skill she has developed. Another thing I appreciate a lot is the way she caresses each word and phrase. Nothing is ever rushed.
Firstly, I congratulate you on you English. Angelina was10 in this performance and, in my opinion it was the age at which she lost all the "childishness" from her voice and had the inalienable right to "stand tall" with all other professional singers.

It is a little confusing when we always say that she "makes it her own". Because sometimes she does that much more than other times. She is singing this song very close to how Cole Porter (l935) wrote it, and how Ella Fitzgerald (1965) sang it. Just a few little bitty changes. Almost identical to the Dinah Washington version. So maybe we should be careful about saying that she "always" makes it her own. Because she obviously does that much more in some covers than in others. Very analytical of you, Emanuel. Just checked. You're right, these mash-ups reveal a great proximity. And I said the same about her incredible re-invention of California dreaming, which became a completely different song, nostalgic, nearly sad, although the original was lightly jumping toward the future.

Just wanted to point out, the way she sings this with absolutely no vocal fry (and no "raspiness" or "smokiness" in her voice otherwise - except in the highest notes, where she can't really help it at this age) is definitely a nod to Ella's style. And her pronunciation and phrasing at the end of lines (e.g., "I die a little", "allow you to go", "spring about it") is also based on how Ella sang (IMO). I'm not sure if that's part of her "respecting the original" (in this case, the original _artist_ more than the original _song_ ), but once you realize the differences, it can definitely be seen as her "making the song her own" (in an almost paradoxical way). Also on the latter point (making it her own), Angelina sings this with a lot more "fluidity" than Ella in her studio version. She draws out the notes and plays with the timing more. And while Ella plays with the timing more in her live version than in the studio one, it's still different from how Angelina is doing it. I sometimes wonder if I just haven't heard the right (live) version of the "original artist" to compare Angelina's version to (especially when she was younger), but it would seem that she's simply able to "internalize" the general style of a singer to such an extent that she can produce a new performance based on that style that's not a copy of any existing recording. Or, to put it another way: she doesn't sing *what* the original artist sang, just *how* they *might have* sung it. (And, of course, sometimes she sings a song totally unlike any other artist. But I'm not talking about those cases.)

I wanted also to add that she is norwegian and that is pronounciation of english is so perfect (to my french ear).
