You can probably ask this question a hundred times. The ability of Angelina to sing across these generational singers encapsulating the essence of the artist is mind bending. There is no one to my knowledge past, present or probably future who can cross the divide Angelina has traversed and still be Angelina.
I absolutely love what you are doing, Angelina has the most versatile voice I have ever heard, I’m 71 and have heard a lot of wonderful vocalist but none with Angelina’s versatility...and all of what we have heard are from the age of 8-13, I find that almost miraculous.
I call it a rich voicetoolbox what Angelina can do. Her low notes with her well trained Vibration and rasp is so unique that nobody can lipsinc her, like some requester think. Her diversity is unbelievable. Her own Songs are very different, but ever with a jazzy influence, that makes her Stile 💙💖💓she is a new Queen of Jazz
very good video.. thanks so much.. to me,.. she has nuance , expression, tone, touch, dynamics , musicality and expansive artistry far greater than any singer that has ever lived. to me this is very evident in this video.
Angelina has been smart enough to listen in detail to the greats, and also talented enough to use all of their nuances of style and tone to her own advantage. Note that she covers their work in a way that honors their contribution to the world's musical history by holding to their classic renditions, while still being able to add her own particular style and gorgeous tonal quality to her own renditions. If she continues on the course she is following and starts writing more of her own music more clearly defining her own style, she will stand tall among the greats.
She doesn't really have to write her own songs, but putting out originals is important. As far as I know, Elvis never wrote a song that he recorded. But he put out a lot of original music that someone else wrote for him. So what we need from Angelina (although I totally love her covers) is something like "I'm Still Holding Out for You". She didn't write it, but that demo was the first recording of it I think. If she had put that out as her original release, I think it would have found real success. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for her writing songs, which I believe she is doing at this time. All I'm saying is that's not the only path to original music.

I have never heard Angelina try to sound like another singer. You can tell that she knows how she wants a song to sound and puts her beautiful voice too it. No imitation required. She makes each song her own performance. I think that is why so many prefer her versions to the originals.
Do you want to know which is the more important reason Angelina is really a great and unique singer?? All the great legends you have exposed, would like to have had the versatility of Angelina = Only she can sing like all of them, when not better., and she is only 14 !!! She is unique! She sings the older classic songs like they should be sung, but in her own way! The newer songs her covers are better than the originals!

Another fun one. Thanks! Other covers would show other possible comparisons, but they all show Angelina's style and vocal abilities. She respects these great singers but you can always recognize Angelina in the song. I think a better comparison of Angelina and Billie H. would be her first song on Norway's Got Talent, Gloomy Sunday. Influence and respect, but still 7 year old Angelina doing it her way. As others have said, Angelina can do exceptional covers of all these well known singers, but most of these singers could not cover the range and variation of genres that Angelina does. Her versatility, her talent, is amazing!!
Thanks Gary. Except on the fact that these stars, mostly, will never be equalized either. Because they created their own style and touched millions of people through out the time. I hope Angelina will achieve that and, espacially, to last and keep herself safe in this jungle of the showbusiness.
We recognize the influence, and, as we have come to know Angelina and her "A.J. and A.J.Team," her deliverance of the event will be delivered with the "respect" always built into the performance.

Another suggestion could be the next time you react to a cover that Angelina does is to play a little of the original artist as an intro before watching Angelina to give yourself and everyone else some context for Angelina's interpretation of the song. Great Job.
I like this suggestion. Another reactor has done this and it's very interesting to listen to a sample from the original or most well-known artist and then listening to Angelina ;)
Angelina has a vast repertoire of jazz influences. She reminds us of others but doesn't sound like them, usually. She just knows what they're doing. She knows how to make the sounds she wants.
I really liked your proposal here. I think Angelina has a voice of her own. Not only she has the voice but the musical ability and knowledge to take something from many artists and genres and make the perfect fusion. But, if you compare her "Valerie" to Amy's, they are VERY close! One important thing to mention is that she always sings in the same key as the original artist, males or females which in itself is quite outstanding.
That’s not entirely true. I had originally wanted to use Fred Astaire’s version of Cheek To Cheek for my mash-up but the key was different unfortunately.
She has ability to make any sound she chooses either via preference or even as tribute. She has an ear that does near mimic any given artist. I’m in heaven she sounds like Fred Astaire as sung in The Green Mile.

I love this great exploring. I think Angelina has a magnificent hear for the smallest of detail, tone, timing, and inflection of many great singers and is able to use what she wants when she wants to, even combining them if need be.
A very interesting approach. Thank you! From these excerpts, Angelina Jordan sounds most like to Washington and Winehouse. But of course, those are very different singers... So what you have really found, to the surprise of no one, is that Angelina is incredibly versatile. Even more so because she does everything in the key of the original singer. That is remarkable, because almost every singer has a «sweet spot» within their range that they prefer to concentrate on. With the possible exception of very high notes, like in the last refrain of «I Have Nothing», Angelina seems equally comfortable anywhere in her vocal range. So instead of transposing to her favorite key, like so many singers do, the key does not seem to matter to her. But to sum up what your video so clearly shows: Angelina Jordan is influenced by many, but a copy of no one.
Yes, I'm extremely biased in my opinion when it comes to Angelina, but I really do believe Angelina easily matched every one of those legends. You got it right when you said like the greats, Angelina "lived the song." I've said it many times, and others have said the same, that Angelina has the ability to touch your soul. Great job, Emmanuel. First, I almost always like Angelina's version best. Second, she has modeled her approach after all these great singers that she admires, so it is only natural that she would retain some of their qualities. But as she matures, she becomes more and more her unique self. Third, she was 8, not 9, in "What a Difference a Day Makes", and her tone and phrasing was almost identical to Dinah's; AJ's vocal fry and Dinah's beautiful vibrato were the main differences. So for me, that's the closest she has ever come to sounding like the person she is covering. Who else do you know that can cover Dinah Washington and sound almost like her? And especially at 8 years of age. Maybe Amy is right there too. Fourth, I would put her version of "It's Magic" closer to Fred Astaire's than Billy Holiday's. Finally, the most remarkable thing is that she can cover all these great singers and have us saying, "WOW! I think I like AJ's version better". Name me someone else with that much versatility and ability to deliver a unique, marvelous performance time and time again. That's rhetorical, because I know you can't. All i can say is that Angelina is Angelina and to be able to cover such a large range of singers and maybe not all of them but sing them better than the originals at such a young age, who else would even try and sing I Put A Spell On You and act it like Screamin Jay Hawkins at the age of 9 WOW. i have gone back and found the original by Jay Hawkins in like 1956 with the what looks like Hog Tusk hanging out of his nose and for her to act and sing it anything like him at 9 WOW. like i say in most all reaction videos of her There Are No Words a gift from above. Liked the mash up was great keep them coming!
Thanks for a very good mashup video, the best so far that I've found on Angelina. I was looking for Whitney Houston but you never got around to her. We have to remember what we are looking at, we have a young girl who is exploring different sounds from completely different artists. Also, she has done hundreds of covers and it appears frequently that she hasn't even practiced the songs enough to know the lyrics without referring to them. Even so, as this video shows she frequently out sings the original artist, and even when that can be debated she puts in more emotion and/or has a more pleasant tone to her voice. As she matures and starts doing more original material I think we will find a more consistent voice from Angelina, and it will have the best of everyone who she looks up to mixed up in the sound.
Salute Emmanuel Very Nice analysis. I probably got an answer to your analysis which is quite absorbing and I personally thought about it throughout my journey with this musical phenomenon. Firstly In majority of these songs or mash up her interpretation is more beautiful & absorbing with due respect to all these big names & legends. More importantly if you listen to AJA's recent songs when she is 13/14 like "yellow bricks..", etc. It is obvious that not only she has put her signature on those songs but her interpretation is completely different and fascinating than originals, including " Bohimian R..", "young & beautiful "..... In case you haven't you can listen to those songs & judge again to see whether she sounds like them or not. Tanx

I watch these with my daughter, the same age as angelina, but not with the knowledge of other performers so when you show other performers we can compare and contrast. For 12 years now Angelina has been experimenting with and training her instrument. Emulating great singers is a part of that. She can now make it sound however she wants it to, seemingly effortlessly. There is ample evidence of that. Combine that with her astonishing musical intelligence and you have IMHO an artist unequaled by any contemporary.
Emmanuel - Thanks for the comparisons. Very interesting. When I listen to Angelina sing "Cheek to Cheek", I never think of Billie Holiday. It sounds to me more like Fred Astair's version from 1935. The swoops she does with the lyrics are more Astair-like than Billie's swinging jazz style. All of this is really neither here nor there. A young girl from Norway who can sing in all of those styles and more is astounding!

Thank you Marcel. Nothing tells us she will continue and make a career for all her life. It seems tobe kind of a burden for a young lady. Who knows. But as "R Promo" told, she just singed with a label, so, at least, will should have more to discover soon.
You know she does lots of Karaoke and often matches the style of the original. I regard these as her own training sessions. But Her tribute to Jay Hawkins - I put a spell on you, took 'schtick' the bone-in-the-nose sideshow mess of his original performances, consolidated his musical ideas, and re-imagined his work as if he had taken his own performances more seriously. She put her stamp on it but stayed true to his intent, if his intent hadn't been a crazy carnival sideshow. I don't think many people appreciate the work she did in consolidating his work into something more dignified yet true to Jay's own significant artistry.
When AJ is ready, she could take on Los Vegas with tribute songs of all her sound-alike artists ..never mind all the staging Vegas would bring to this star-studded show...the financial rewards are astounding..then there is Europe etc.
I enjoyed your analysis but i don't agree with your approach when you try to decide whether Angelina is singing like Sinatra, Washington, Winehouse etc.. Of course she has been influenced by all these singers just by listening to them all. She may even try to emulate them to some degree like when she covered Etta James's I'd Rather Go Blind. Because of her young age, there's a false assumption that she doesn't have her own voice. SHE DOES. It's purposeful and a sign of her talent that she can sound like other singers but that's by choice. But don't be mistaken about it, these singers you highlighted would be proud to sound like Angelina.
Hi Jerry. My purpose was not really to give an answer to this pseudo question. It only was a way to listen to Angelina differently. I am trying to open other ways to react. After that, I am not so sure, even if I am very fond of Angelina's interpretations, that these stars would have to be jealous of her. Let her a little time.
Emulating great artists and getting so close to their interpretation is a high skill not many vocalist can even achieve. Still, after a while you can always identify her typical angelic voice, at her concert 2019 at Boris Palenowsky‘s channel Igot the impression that she is developing even more her own typical signature. And her versatility is really so outstanding, that I am constantly amazed.

In her Adele cover I heard more of the female jazz singers you showed before than a resemble to Adele. Interesting. I think for Billy Holiday a comparison with Gloomy sunday would have been more suitable. We've just recently seen someone reacting to it who held Billy Holiday very dear. He acted like he got a heart attack, stroke or something. That resemblance to Billy Holiday really hit home. Hard. Generally I agree she doesn't sing like singer xyz, it's more like a mosaic of influences put together. One voice coach some time ago could even point out the Billy Holiday influence from hearing just Bohemian Rhapsody. In her covers she adjusts to the song and sounds very different from cover to cover. So who can really point out, this and that is her style? We've seen only three originals so far, each one sounding different. We'll see what she does next.
Thanks Yves. I think that she can use all these influence, and she mix them for the purpose of each song, to make it sound the best. Especially, she wants to serve the meaning of the song, with not only a timber, but also a tempo and a "pharsé" (I don't know the english word).
Ella has a richness in her voice that Angelina doesn’t have yet, but she will get there as her voice matures. Angelina is Angelina, if she favors anyone it’s Ella Fitzgerald who smooths out all her other influences, like Nina Simone. I think she did a great job creating her own artistry and style.
agree with you. Angelina has similarities with Ella Fitzgerald. She extends every word a lot more. Angelina does an amazing Dinah Washington. sorry, but I can hear Billie Holiday on Angelina. I think Angelina learn how to sing like all these singers because she was 3 years old and learn all the little things from each singer, like if she was learning languages.

MY opinion ( which doesn't count for much ) is that Angelina is comparable to Elvis , Blows Adele out of the water ! , interesting comparison with the others But : Amy's voice is so unique . . . even Angelina doesn't quite 'get there' although will probably view Angelina's 'attempt' more often. Angelina is my 'go-to' for stress/tension relief . . . her voice is . . . . . . yeah . No one else like her.
I don’t think you can compare Angelina Jordan to anybody. I believe that in the future people are going to say about other young singers hey, she’s sings like Angelina Jordan! She composes all her own music. They call her the “BOSS LADY”.

I enjoy and appreciate all of your observations. Your reactions are spot on, and I enjoy all of them. Angelina is truly amazing. I get goose bumps every time I hear her sing. I she is one of the most impressive artists I have ever heard. Demosh puts out many tones. I find him very annoying. Just my opinion.
I think that most of us would agree that Ella Fitzgerald is a great singer. Is Angelina better than Ella? Of course, Ella is a greater singer because she has been doing it much longer and had a whole life-time and more to expose people to new and old songs. Ella set the singing standards for three generations of singers. Angelina is still young. One of the ways in which we judge a great singer is the extent to which the singer influenced other singers. Angelina has not yet developed her style to the extent that others can imitate her, at least not consistently. It is unfair to expect her to match the standards of Ella Fitzgerald in the same way that one would expect a tiger cub to show her stripes. It will happen, however. Greatness not only depends on ability to sing the songs of others. Greatness also depends on creating new music. Yes, Angelina has several songs that she has written but that body of work cannot and should not be compared to other great singers. I predict that as Angelina matures, she will settle into her own style and take that style further than anybody else. She is still a chameleon right now. Every time I see her, I am surprised by how much she has grown and matured but she is not yet fully grown. Yes, she is sweet, soft, savage, sad, funny, powerful, crazy, and sexy. It is amazing that she performs the songs of Adele, Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald, and others better than the originals. But, we have to understand that she is trying out different styles and paying tribute to these singers that she is learning from. I can’t wait to see how she matures. Now that she has moved to Los Angeles, she will be exposed to even broader influences than she was in Norway. Imagine what she will be like when Asian and African music begin to move into her soul, when hip hop catches her fancy, when she falls in love, or she feels terrorized by forces beyond her control. Given her sensibility and talent, I suspect that she will respond very differently from any of us. What I do believe is that she will establish a new musical genre. That is what great musicians do. That is what she is and will be.
Emmanuel, you are doing a disservice to the everyone by trying to compare Angelina"s voice and style to someone else. Angelina has her own style and sound and should not be compared in this manner... I surely don't sound like you but we are are both speaking words.
Are you partly trying to say that Angelina Jordan is just a copycat ? of course she has learned from the great's when we're talking old jazz standards ... But almost always with a touch of Angelina Jordan 😍 and when we're talking newer songs and arrangements of hits and of course her own songs it's unique and a totally different story 😉
I think Angelina had listned to Fred Astairs version of Cheek to Cheek. Angelinas controll of her vibrato Is the differensen to the old classic female singers, they have a more spontainous vibrato and to much and to often for my taste.
Agreed. This is my gripe with the female trio og3ne, their vibratos all seem forced and are often misplaced, particularly in their version of Bohemian Rhapsody, which of course Angelina sang to perfection. I also love how Angelina used two different speeds of vibrato within the same word "care" at the end of "I Put a Spell on You ".

Hey Cathy your comment doesn't fit this reaction/review. If you replay it you will hear it as a respectful forensic investigation into her singing style. Not at all a snub of any kind. The reactor has been a super proponent of this young lady and has helped me and many others to better esteem and marvel at Angelina Jordan.
