Every Ultralight Angler NEEDS THIS For Kayak Fishing!

I took the kayak out during a fall transition day to discover the lake had flipped over and there was a major algae bloom impacting the clarity of the water. The shallow shorelines almost looked like an oil-based paint which turned anything that touched it green (my kayak included).
As I pedaled offshore, the water clarity improved, so that is where I felt the greatest confidence in catching fish. It wasn't long before I started to mark some schooling Crappie on my fish finder. That is when I decided to bust out a product which every kayak angler should own... A MARKER BUOY!
Marker Buoys are super simple products - essentially just a float with a weight and a string attached. It wouldn't be hard to make your own because of that. However, I happen to have a two pack of Eagle Claw Marker Buoys and they get the job done nicely for a low price. Available here: discounttackle.com/products/e...
These buoys are extremely helpful for all boat anglers as they allow you to create vantage points offshore. This can help you hold a location or a breakline effectively. For kayak anglers, they are even more important due to the nature of smaller watercraft being impacted by wind/current heavily.
Overall, I never caught any big fish that day, but it was a great time on the water and I always enjoy a good offshore Crappie bite. No complaints!

If you are able to mark key dropoffs, structure, or fish on a graph of some type, these come in handy big time. Even without electronics, they can help a lot after catching a fish or two.

Likely a bloom of Cyanobacteria or some kind of phytoplankton (could be diatoms, eukaryotic green algae, etc). If you had any recent rain this could contribute to them, as the rapid mixing of water coupled with agricultural runoff providing a large supply of nutrients can lead to a large bloom.
@kiwi_comanche
@kiwi_comanche 7 месяцев назад
That's exactly what it is. Cyanobacteria has gone absolutely crazy here in Northern Ireland, the UKs largest inland body of water, Loch Neagh is here and it's almost completely covered due to government inaction. The bloom has now made its way into rivers and tributaries and is causing the deaths of animals and fish.

Crazy stuff! I am no scientist, so I really appreciate you sharing this with me. This lake is near a lot of farmland so clearly the runoff impacts it. Honestly it seems to make the lake nutrient-rich and gives it great growth conditions for fish. Until something like this happens that is...

My dad used to use bouys out at the drop off on our home lake and move between them for mid-summer, midday speck fishing. Always seemed to work out great. Good tool.

Good video Ethan even if it's dink crappies. I purchased the 2 pack of neon green ones many moons ago. I like them a lot to reference our location for the drift and jig. Some of the forest preserve lakes near us have sunken fish attractors and brush piles that aren't on their maps and guides.

I know you’re not using a live scope but I am personally really against live scoping. It puts too much pressure on the fish. I read last year that even the Michigan DNR advised anglers not to use them. I know you’re a catch and release guy but being able to find those suspending fish that otherwise would not be caught puts undue stress / pressure on the fisheries. That’s almost a direct quote from the DNR.

@@RamonOutdoors I don’t get live scoping. I would feel like I am cheating if I ever used one. Finding the fish is half the equation and when you eliminate that part of the equation what’s the point? Seems boring.

@@Tightt88 knowing where the fish are and catching them are two different things. I don’t use forward facing sonar, but I think it would be similar to bed fishing. Still have to catch the fish and sometimes they just don’t bite.

Good video,thanks for the ideas. I like the markers til the rude folks pull up next to you, hit the waypoint and swamp you as they leave not saying a word.
@FishAnything
@FishAnything 7 месяцев назад
Yeah that would be annoying... The thing with these Crappie was they were honestly scattered and not on clear structure. They could have pretty much been anywhere. My guess is they were focused on where the baitfish were moving around.
