Mangudai and other cavalry archers feel really strong right now. Unless you've good ranged options yourself. It's really hard to try to counter them with any melee.

@@icarian553 note the camel archers and Rus horse archers must stop to fire. It's only Mangudai and tower/siege elephants that can fire on the move, and elephants are slow enough for melee unit to catch up. Really it's only the mangudai that will be pain the arse.

Mate, I feel those Mangudai are a bit too strong and I haven't even played against them yet. They'd need either really low ranged defense and health, or slower speed while shooting. Cause otherwise... what can you even do against them.

I know, right? They are strong af. That's why they conquer the known world with horse archer. I still don't know how to counter them. Maybe the Mongols' weakness is in their defense. If I'm not wrong, they can't build walls. Instead, they move the building to a safer place, or even to a more aggressive place. They can move their whole machine into your place and just 'convert' your land into theirs. Damn, that's the definition of invading and conquering. It's gonna be wild fighting as or against Mongols, and that is historically precise.

@@teemo-kawaii3423 you can blap them with longbowman atleast. But that's only one nation.

I think it’s by design because England is meant to be the beginner civ for learning mechanics

@@willheim371 I think Rus in general deals with them pretty well because their early-game walls, wooden fortresses, and landmarks don't let them get away with raiding as easily and on top of that they have horse archers of their own; albeit they cannot fire while moving.

@@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 Yes I feel like majority of matches I've seen have revolved around that strat and has worked well take away their advantages early and it really hurts Mongols in the long run for sure.

@@srani5885 That's just their regular villagers. Hardly a unique unit, it's just a regular villager who has a better attack than the other civs.

Palace guard are worse than man at arms against infantryfrom what I remember from the stress test .I don't think the chinese are that op tbh.They got a lot of unique units when compared to other fzctions,that is true.I would have liked a baseline of 3 unique units for each factions.

The Rus is the best civ

Rus, French and Mongols are all stronger.

@Ander P they should delete Grenadiers then, it just feels like a cheesy right and click gameplay nobrainer... too much leanage for the Chinese faction.. Just give them the tradition AoE 2 setup.. i dont even understand the "Palace Guards" are they halberders that can fight both cav and infantry? Its gonna be Grenadier spam with Palace Guard backup, and one or the other of those Bee shooters.. All range superiority - unless Longbows can take them apart? Palace Guard seem to have no shield.. but maby you need penetration of armor against them?

Chinese rn are among the hardest civs to play, they are a very late game faction, its only fair if they get a good unit in late game since early game and mid game every other faction can do like anything the chinese can do but better. They have to spend the double amount of resources aging up in order to get their unique dynasty bonuses

@@markuslundberg7457 palace guards are men at arms, they have a little bit less armor but are alot faster then men at arms ... they have the same role ... as for grenadiers ... well think about you have to invest 4800 food and 2400 gold just to get them ... cause you have to get the imperial dynasty so ... ye you can't rush grenadiers , if you got them just by being imperial ye i would agree but you need both imperial land marks for them

It takes like 8000 rss to get them lol. And then the unit itself is expensive so getting that big ball is hard

They can only build it within a specific dynasty otherwise they can’t build it

Unique units aren't what makes the factions strong. English for example can get gold from farming, which in late game when gold has dried up is incredible. French have very strong bonuses too.

The Mangudai are the only unit that can do it (Other than the tower elephants) and they're slightly toned down in damage to make up for the fact that they never have to stop while kiting you. It fits well into the Mongol theme and every faction has some OP stuff I think; but if everyone's OP, nobody's OP. Remember abassid get vils for half price with economic wing in age II, 3 factions get knights in age II, HRE men at arms coming at you with like 5 or 6 pierce armor in feudal age lol. Everyone's OP just gotta pick your battles. Delhi elephants cost 600 gold and 400 food each, its just completely different balance, a lot more asymetric.

Having played a lot of mongols, they’re balanced by their speed. They are the slowest of the cavalry, meaning they can’t run for long. They are demolished by knights.

Well, if they want to add more, their spear unit line may work since they do have their Yeomen of the Guard but at this point I don't think they will...

If they added then people will complain that they would get mixed with the other units.

It wasn't a thing, as far as I know. The women portrayed in the "Secret History of the Mongols" have somewhat traditional roles.

@Ander P Sure, but Mongols are not Scythians, they were distant from each other ethnically, chronologically, geographically ... What it is true for a nomadic people may be wrong for another.

Elephants winning against spearmen due to trample area damage. Ballistas depleting the elephants' hp to no health and killed some of the elephants with the time brought by the spearmen but then got charged by the elephants right before they could finish the last few of the elephants.

Those elephants were worth more than 4000 rss
