I love how most of his goals are coming from rebounds, tip ins, driving the net etc. Before he would mostly snipe to get goals and now he has improved his game so much it shows with his 31 goals 28 assists for 59 points in 68 games which looked like he would reach the 40 mark. Now if he follows the mathews trend of learning to be a solid two way player he can be another nhl all star!
Ehum. Mathew, at least in some games, seems to be a horrible two way player (he basically gave the puck away in the 'attack' zone ending up with gaols in the back. It happened several times (2 or 3). In the same game. Hmm but it seems i am wrong about Matthews. He is +19, which is good.
@@staffan144 yea well if u want to knit pick every single play of every NHL player ur gonna see Crosby Ovie Pastar Laine Eichel Gretzky and the list goes on and on on horrible turnovers or mistakes. Austin has improved alot overall as a two way player..... so knit pick any moment u want! :)
Check out tsn leafs stats. Mathews leads the team in +/-, takeaways, turnover differencial, leads all leafs forwards in blocked shots, and second on the team in attempted blocked shots. He also has more hits than Marner and Nylander combined. Haters have no clue how amazing he is on both ends.
Never doubted William Nylander. His skating, shooting and play making is unreal. Has an elite shot 2nd to Matthew's. His contract dispute was a joke.. pay the man. All those who wanted to trade him, I was laughing. Are you kidding me?
@@Parksy1818 I have been saying from the moment Nylander signed it was a good deal and I've also been saying if anyone is in danger of being overpaid it's Marner. I also have been saying however that every team overpays someone. It's just usually some guy who is a third or fourth liner that they paid 4-6 million thinking he would be a great second line guy. It's not a big deal. If they can work it out and get where they want fine. If not finding a trade with serious assets coming back would be simple. Many teams will give you the sun and the moon for him. He's only overpaid by around 1.6 million.
@@nolanhughes1399 right im sure lol yet they have found top 10 1st round asset value players with later picks under dubas but ok whatever you say. This is exactly what people were saying about Lemieux's Penguins in the mid 80s how they wont compete with a skill team, well what happened? 91-92 b2b champs, patience is a virtue, if you don't believe in the current management team then dont watch them they have their 4 horsemen + Mo on D I would wait a few more years before writing them off
JT did have a disappointing season by his standards, but I put that down to his thumb injury. It's hard to shoot when your thumb is messed up. He'll be better next season no doubt.
His contract doesn't sound all that bad now, ey? If you count $/points he is about 20% cheaper than Matthews and about 30% cheaper than Marner. Admittedly Matthews is still a far better two way player. Nylander has gotten a lot better defensively but there is still some room for improvement.
Hes earning that contract. Matthews and Nylander are worth every cent. Marner is good, but hella overpaid. I also think Tavares at 11 mill is too steep. hes good but hes slow, and hes gunna be real slow in a few years. still got what 5 years on that contract?
Whinin' Willy has potted some goals this season. Big deal. Let's see if he can keep shooting ~4.5% better than his career average. His overall game is still garbage.
