Sidelines or competitive? If you want to do sidelines you can probably get away with not doing it before but I would suggest taking privates with a coach if you can. If you want to do competitive levels are based on tumbling which makes leveling up difficult as you get older but some places offer non-tumbling teams but I don’t know a lot about non-tumbling teams. Some places offer recreational cheerleading if you want to try it and if you want to know somethings to work on I would say drills, stretching, motions. Have a great day!
