After its over-saturated, sequel-heavy heyday in the 1980s, few industry experts could have foreseen what the years between 1996 and 2000 would bring in terms of resurrecting the slasher film while simultaneously bringing in new fans and setting new box office records.
Check out our full length documentary and learn all about it...

'New Nightmare' I feel is a very under rated film. It's basically the forerunner to Scream; it knows how to play with NoES's and Craven's own conventions in clever ways. It explores what makes movies scary and the atraction of horror, while also still being an actual horror film. I love it!

I'd say it's aged better in many ways. Could have done with more distinctive kills, the kids not great and I don't love Freddy's look, but the rest is excellent. And it's almost as scary as the first 3.

The beginning of the 90s slasher films wasn't just all about the continuation of Chucky and Freddy and Jason and Michael Myers

As a kid I remember buying " I Still Know What You Did Last Summer". My sister got "Bride Of Chucky". Odd that my mom allowed us to get those because we weren't allowed to watch The Simpsons 😅. My generation had Scream, Final Destination, and the later Chucky and I Know What You Did movies. Add in Jeepers Creepers, The Ring, House of Wax, Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Predator, H20, Ghost of Mars, House on Haunted Hill, Wrong Turn, Joy Ride.

It's just so painful that it's underrated as opposed to the other movies

Prime Horror, your videos are awesome, but having them in a small screen with that movie projector taking up the other third of the screen is, well not the best way to do it. You'd get more views if you had a full screen image.

I just discovered your channel today and I've been binging for the last couple of hours! I LOVE finding like minded people who love horror movies as much as I do! This video was super fun, as well as part 1. I was born in the 70s so as a child/teen I grew up on Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm st and all the cheesey slasher films of that era. I have an 11 year old son who loves horror too, and I've had the best of times sharing all these great movies with him! Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to exploring your channel!

I didn't like Scary Movie, but at least it killed off the post-modern horror craze. The original Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer was all I could take.

Sorry but the Kevin Williamson scripted horror films of the 90's are just 90210/Dawson Creek teen soap dramas with a few jump scares ... barely rating as horror films by any serious horror aficionado ...
@Itlivesinthewall

Sorry buddy. But Scream is a pure horror movie. The opening alone is considered one of the scariest of all time, the main killer had an obsession over slasher movies and wears a ghost mask while slashing teens.
@mondomacabromajor5731
@mondomacabromajor5731 3 года назад
@@Itlivesinthewall Sorry buddy - but Scream is simply a rip-off of Rolfe Kanefsky's 1989, first 'self-aware' horror film "There's Nothing Out There". Look it up. Scream's commercial success was only due to: right place/right time/dumb luck. There are vastly better Slasher films than that dreck teen drama with a mask that only scares kids.

@@mondomacabromajor5731 but hey, you can not like the movie. That's fine but can't ignore the impact it had, it was successful because many more people than just you liked it.

@@Itlivesinthewall I am not very accepting of Scream as i hate and loathe all those Kevin Williamson '90s teen angst dramas. All he did was REINVENT the Slasher film for commercial success off the back of better serious films aimed at the adult audience ... Scream is just a Dark Comedy Horror - by comparison, you may as well call 'Scary Movie' a Slasher as well ...
