As a drummer myself i'm thinking most fans have no clue how strenuous and complex your drumming really is. their just enjoying the groove but don't realize how talented you really are! well done impressive drumming!
As not a drummer myself, I assume you are right. I mean, I've listened to enough drumming to recognize talent when I hear (and see) it, but I'm pretty sure I can't fully appreciate the full difficulty and complexity. To me, just being able to play drums at even a basic level seems hard enough. Everything above that is just different levels of magic. ;)
The best guys make the "simple" stuff art. It took me years to figure out how to really sell a basic backbeat well even though the mechanics of it aren't that hard. Moore is one of the best.
From someone who played for nearly 20 years I completely grasp the complexity and ease with which he implements it. This stuff isn't easy, but he makes it look like buttering bread.
Some drummers over play songs. He was incredible at not only putting his spin on the song but just absolute control and flow. Very inspiring. I'm going to play my drums right now 😆
MAD POCKETS!!! (while I'm over here thinking he missed about 4-5 cymbal crashes just now, what's happening?!? LOL Staying Pocket like this is so BEAST though!)
So bored of metric modulation and have had so much fun jamming to this track, was so good to see the master play it. Awesome work as ever but this was extra high quality.
ERIC THE ONLY THING I CAN SAY IS AMAZING JUST FUCKING MIND BLOWING THE TIMING AND PRECISION YOU DISPLAYED IN THAT SECOND CUT JUST THREW ME OFF MY CHAIR ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU PLAYED YOUR TOMS JUST FILLING THE WHOLE RHYTHM AND CADENCE, ADDING TO THE TOTAL COMPLEXITY OF THE PIECE. SO AGAIN SIR BRAVO.
Just found you Eric. Wow!!!! Watched a couple of your earlier videos performing live and watched every performance in full. This work coving Tears for Fears..... (PRICELESS). I was stationed at RAF FAIRFORD ENGLAND when they first released and preformed this song. Powerful message and a joy to watch and hear you cover it Your (I call it) HIGH HAT MAGIC IS 👍. Thanks for sharing.
Be interested in examples of hit pop songs with variating 16 and 32nd note hi-hat patterns. I can't think of any. The original pattern does not variate and may not even be from a hi-hat. More likely it was sequenced.
Such precision without showing off. There are plenty of fills but they never take away from the feel of the song just to show that a lick can be done. You don’t have to play what was on the record just something that compliments the song. You do that so well. When musicians try to play exactly the record or exactly the sheet music it take a feeling out of the song. When someone plays what they feel then the music comes out with a feeling that the audience can feel. This is why good live performances leave the audience wanting more. Great job.
Real music is not mechanical. There is a space in the air between the notes/beats that is where the magic resides. Like you let yourself go, but stick the landing......
No one has mentioned how spectacular the mix is - those drums really sound amazing, deep and full of attack. Love the sizzle on the hihats during the recording. Well done Mr Moore!!
I love the quarters on the bass. It's something that I do often. It really fattened up the groove at the right time. Wonderfully nuanced and the fills were tasty. Nicely done!!!! Really spiced up the song without getting too flashy. Pocket drummer for sure.
Yo. I had to stop at 1:18. You just changed my life. I don't normally watch your videos but for some reason I opened RU-vid, saw your video, and just clicked it. "Stop taking life for granted" you said. Thank you man. Yeah and then you killed that shit 🔥
As a fellow drummer, you killed both renditions. This is one of my favorite sing-a-long songs as well. You took that joint to church on the 2nd rendition by adding some flava on those accents.. Touché.
I have been listening to tears for fears a couple of months last year... "everybody wants to rule the world" makes me nostalgic. Yo Eric! You just made my day... God bless you!
I love this song, I love the sound of your drum kit, and I love how you groove no matter if you play it straight or with more flavor. I REALLY enjoyed the 2nd version! It was amazing how you made it sound better by adding stuff. That is not easily done. I could still feel the groove amidst the fills. Those are the best fills! You stayed in the pocket the whole time, no matter what you did. I loved it!
I'm no drummer but I loved the second version. As someone who grew up in the 70s and 80s I know this song inside out. But the drumming took it to another level! Awesome. It makes me want to learn to drum. I never knew you could change the sound of a track so much this way. Love it.
As a kid I used to watch Dennis Miller Live every weekend, and this was the intro song. My father has played drums for nearly 60 years (late 60s Slingerland double bass kit) and he would always "doll up" songs when I asked him to play them. Thanks for bringing 2 of my favorite childhood memories together. Peace.
Second version those tom fills!! He ALWAYS gets back to the snare to keep the pocket groove going! And endless finesse fills - never the same! This is like a guitar player playing lead, rhythm, base and singing... the ENTIRE song! Mucho respect for sharing your talents with us!
WOOOOWWWW. I heard this song since I was 17 and listened to it for 35 years, a million times. BUT, hearing Eric's version, I went to the MOON. I'am LOST!!!! This song is one of my "personal musical anthems" , but hearing the sound of those toms, woowwww
Eric, I like what you’re doing with the hats at the beginning of your version. Real nice. Also, I love how at the 8:52 mark you lay in on the top hat and hold it there for a moment. Just great! And you had fun which is the MOST IMPORTANT thing.
Like a well oiled clock! Lots of talent sitting behind that beautiful kit! Those Toms, are you kidding me! Very impressive! As a drummer this is simply candy for my ears, can’t get enough!
That's where you see play simple & straight is real hard difficult. For me the 2nd is the one because the groove is alive and still go forward. Even for a monster drummer like Eric Moore, he seems a little bit stucked in the first one.
i never am surprised with the depth of songs ive heard all my life and then see someone like eric moore show me what it means to appreciate them like they deserve
Pasties are so unique. I like loading a couple of Sabians into the mix acting as a pad, the Paisties really pop against that. Zildjans covers the spectrum.
Brother Moore from one drummer to another you are an amazing drummer and a blessed one indeed. Although I’m not playing at the moment due to an iWork related injury, but there’s not one day that goes by that I truly miss being in the seat I visualized myself playing the drums once you remind me of myself I’m just a supernatural gifted drummer and so are you keep doing what God has called you to do for his glory I’ll be watching you.
Fantastic playing, Eric! Such control, power, and style, and locked into the groove pocket! Great inspirational and thoughtful words to kick it off. I hope that 2021 can get you back to a greater sense of normalcy. One love, my human brother!
