I've been using acrylic paint to stain wood for years now. I watched your video to see how you did it. This is the first of your videos where I will stick to my method. I mix the paint with water and use it like a wash. If I want a darker finish, I use less paint. I also sand beforehand to get a smoother, more even finish.

I did this on accident. My favorite brown paint watered down somehow...when I tried to paint a crate but it ended up looking like stained wood and it was amazing. So I've been watering down my paints first. Then I use polyurethane after for a glossy finish

Great video! Thanks so much. I stain my embroidery hoops and it can get expensive. For those trying to reduce waste using a damp microfiber cloth works fantastic. I just toss them in the wash after.

yup, i have been doing that for years - my ma and i used to be hired to 'antique' peoples furniture and even woodwork in their houses - we came up with this 'smudging' paint over paint - does wonders to make crap wood that will never look good bare again interesting

I just came across this tutorial and the "baby wipes" caught my eye. WOW! I have been tole painting for about 20 years and I never thought about baby wipes. This was awesome and now I don't need to use up paper towels or old rags. . . LOL Thank you so much for sharing. I am going to try this out in a few minutes to stain a wooden kleenex box to that I want to paint and decoupage on. Have a great day and happy painting. Jeannie from Lancaster, CA

Acrylic ink is also a very good medium for wood stains. It provides consistent, even coverage, and you can still water it down for a more transparent color or add a paste for heavier, non transparent layers. It is easy to mix together to create unique colors but also available in a vast amount of colors. I make and sell geometric wall art made out of wood. Have been using acrylic ink for years and the ability to stain wood to any color you like instead of being stuck with the limited colors available in Home Depot or lowes. Acrylic ink for the win!

Never would've thought to try this. I have some wood projects that I need to "stain" for my wedding reception and this would work perfectly. Even though, I could just get my husband do it for me to save time haha thanks for the tip. Greetings from Ontario, Canada

@ThisSouthernGirlCan
@ThisSouthernGirlCan 3 года назад
I actually did try that. Burned the word first, and then did the stain and it looked OK. Depending on how much you thin down the paint, that can make the burnt parts look just a tad bit lighter
