Kelly Alves he's using a straightening steel. He's about to film a cooking video, and that's what you do to keep knives sharp without removing any material. Basically it straightens the fibers of the metal so it with stay shaper for longer. Usually they're used right after a Simone rod to smooth out any burrs

EverymanHYBRID was one of the hardest slender series to follow because it really was a full fledged ARG; meaning there was so much going on outside of the videos that actually had the audience participating. While things like Marble Hornets were almost exclusively on youtube(and only on two channels) it was easy to keep up with the story. EMH you really had to start digging to get info, and often times it was disjointed and spread out. It's been around long enough now there are hubs of information, but if you weren't interesting in "joining the community" so to speak, it was still a little tricky to get all the info. Just another reason to thank you for posting this. I had no idea how much I had missed, and I think a lot more people will be willing to keep up with EMH with these videos around.

Everyone who sees these videos and is like "these guys are terrible actors" seem to have forgotten what real, not-acting people are like, on-or-off-camera. It happened with Marble Hornets too, even though both are way more realistic than even most "realistic" movies or shows, simply because reality is messy. People mumble, mess up what they want to say, repeat things, and emotions aren't necessarily obvious, because when someone is somewhat relaxed everything tends to center around that low energy. People talk over each other and scratch their heads and put weird inflections on things when they don't plan what they want to say. Is it good for entertainment? Not really, except for very specific situations. Is it good for convincing people that what's going on is real? Yes, until someone deliberately aware of the illusion starts complaining.

There's a difference between realism and bad acting. These guys are generally okay. The Marble Hornets guys were awful (though Tim was okay at times). I'm not discounting what they did, those guys were masters of jumpscares (and yes, you do need some skill to do a jumpscare well), but their acting was atrocious.

Tastes vary; I greatly prefer EMH's naturalistic, half-improvised style of dialogue to the horrible line-reads in TribeTwelve. It better suits the tone and the medium.

I like how Slenderman feels like a background character in this series. Beyond the first few episodes you don't see much of it, dealing with delusions, time loss, confusing clues, and missing people instead. Slender is obviously the antagonist, but beyond setting everything in motion it seems to take a very, very laid-back approach.

The amount of effort put into this ARG is STAGGERING. I can't even begin to wrap my head around the planning, plotting, and error-checking it would take to make a story this convoluted and intriguing go so smoothly and so convincingly over such a long period of time. By the way, is there any good way to get the remaining RABBITS within contact? If you could get them all to hold their breath at the same time, excepting one, (I'd nominate 98 if he's still in it.) that would technically fulfill the requirement. The Trials would be done.

One thing I like about this series is the fact that the crew still joke around even during this stressful situation. It makes sense that college age kids would react to a scenario as terrifying of this with dark humor to keep themselves sane. The way the characters act is pretty realistic and reminds me of how me and my friends used to act together even if we were stressed out from something or if we just had an argument. Even if we were angry or scared or whatever we would still crack jokes.

We also watched Alantutorial and Unedited Footage of a Bear, and we watched your explanations for those too. My father and I have a different relationship now. I know this reply is ridiculously late, but I have come to believe EverymanHYBRID is not over. I know MLAndersen0 is, however I don't think EverymanHYBRID would just end the series without a word, especially in such an important period of time, considering Vinnie is now trapped in the apartment. Just be patient - I'm sure they'll return.

MLAnderson0 is just on hiatus- they're still around, but they have living arrangements and day jobs to handle. Michael's story has its solid, though mindfucky ending, but he may still have a role to play in the Slenderverse at large. They're cameo-capable, too. As is good ol' Noah. There were multiple references to the Rake in the series. Linnie's deep gashes were made by the Rake, and the Rake was the quadrupedal being in the background during that clip. Another was when Alex said some white figure gave him the wounds on his arms and was at the end of his bed, like in one of the most popular Rake stories, he even describes the damn thing perfectly. Wow, thanks to this video I'm starting to understand why EMH has the reputation it has! Part 1 left me feeling a little "meh" about everything (kind of a scattered plot, SO many references to other horror media/creepypastas), but now I can see it's much more of a slow burn-- the EMH guys really taking their time and building the dread gradually. Plus, not having been there for all the audience participation stuff (the livestreams, Tumblr asks, Habit's little competition) makes it really hard to comprehend in a linear way if you're trying to catch up, so your videos are a gem! As always! With all the recapping you're having to do from every different piece of multimedia involved, though, I feel like we've lost a lot of your analysis. Will there be more of that in upcoming videos? I hope so, that's always my favorite part. (It's like I can feel my mind being blown, maaaan!) Again, brilliant job, Nick, can't wait for the next sleepless night! :D

+shinythingster Thanks, Shiny! I really appreciate that. I'll admit myself that analysis has been lower than in Marble Hornets: Explained, but there's a definite reason for it. That reason being that, honestly, I can't inform anyone of what certain things actually mean or what's really going on until later due to storytelling milestones implemented in the way EMH is laid out. It's a slow burn in that way, too. Believe me, though, the next part will really open up the floor to piece things together. It's interesting to do EMH, because it's much more cohesive in its writing off-camera, and that makes for later reveals in front of an audience why things happened earlier--it actually does answer questions much more directly than Marble Hornets did, but the way that it's presented means it still requires an explanation video to really tie everything together and say, "Now that this has been revealed, I can let you guys in on what THIS meant and what was really going on." It's going to be a mindblow, don't worry. And it's going to freak a lot of people out very, very badly. The true horror of EMH is yet to be entirely revealed.

I've heard the crew goes to great lengths to stay in character; when fans met them in their town and such. I wonder how much of this series was written out all ahead of time and how much they made it up as they went. It seems like they had an overarching plan prepared, but about half way through they started "winging it".

I love how they managed to tie SO MANY things including VERY local (at the time) folk lore. Centralia was a thing really only known in PA and parts of NJ. Silent hill brought new eyes to the old Town and this brought it to the rest. Then there's house of leaves. Very popular Princeton late night eateries. And so much more.

Just as a side note, the area the guys filmed in Centralia is now closed off. It's private property and while the owner had been happy to let people on it to explore, vandalism got to a point where they had to close it down. Also, the fires didn't start in the mines. They started when the town tried to burn their landfills, which weren't constructed properly. It eventually leaked into the mines, just didn't start there.

+IPlay2442 Thanks! I really wanted to increase production quality as much as possible with EMH due to being limited during Marble Hornets. It still irks me to think of things in MH:E that I can do now I couldn't do back then. Still, gotta learn as you go along, right?
