For years, mouse manufacturers have been competing to dethrone the reigning kings, Logitech.
The G Pro and the Superlight are some of the best-selling gaming mice ever produced and even years after their release companies are still trying to steal Logitech’s thunder.
But the days of the Superlight’s dominance might be coming to an end. Many manufacturers are stuffing their mice with new features, and they think that 4K polling rates will get you to switch to their products.
But are we really entering a new era for gaming mice? Are 4K mice actually worth it, and can anyone take down Logitech?

@@emsj86 Intel was EXACTLY like that between 2012 and 2016 until AMD came with Ryzen in 2017 and Intel started to panic because now they couldn't sell 4 core 8 thread CPUs anymore and call them flagship. Cause of AMD's competition, we now have 16 to 24 core CPUs for consumers with incredible clock speeds and excellent multitasking potential and instead of 8 to 16gb ram, 32 and 64gb is now supremely common to use.

For me, the killer was the fact that the performance between the gpx1 and gpx2 is negligible (less than 5% better click latency on double the polling rate), and the fact that they charge so much money for it compared to the competition. I do understand why they went for 2khz though, because, like Pwnage said in their posts about their Stormbreaker, 2khz is the sweet spot between better mouse performance, without hurting battery life and game performance, plus, there are still games out there, that don't play very well on 4khz.

Click latency is independent of the polling rate, it's more about the MCU implementation.

The reality is that logitech just didnt do enough at all. They had 3 years and somehow made the clicks worse, didnt go minimum 4k, skates are the worst ive felt on any mouse stock they literally scratch and they left the mushy side buttons the same. Its not enough in this market especially at that price. $50-70 is where the new mouse should be priced for what it is.

@@emsj86 exactly why Ryzen started to gain market share over intel. plus many tech reviewers did not recommend an upgrade from gpx to gpx2. while other mice manufacturers were innovating and improving by leaps and bounds, Logitech barely improved, which could potentially lead to their downfall

yeah it's not about if 4k is actually beneficial or not but it's about being the top of the line mouse, it should have all of the bells and whistles but of course they save money by giving bare minimum as people gonna buy anyway. It kinda sad but this is the reality in a lot of tech products nowadays, Apple, Intel, Nvidia,... why do better when you could make more money for less effort

@@emsj86Logitech best? Where? Lamzu or Pulsar are better and they are from much smaller and newer companies. RAZER is much better than Logitech for almost 2 years now. We will see Finalmouse (if without qc issues ofc) will be also much better and total nobrainer comapred to GPX2. Yes, most pros use GPX, because its the oldest mice like that with very safe shape and there is something called SPONSORSHIP, which is the biggest reason for all of this. PROs are also using mostly shitty other gear like headphones, shit keyboards and mousepads. So what? Just because they have the biggest market share that means every shit they pull out means its the best? I don't think so.

I rather have good low latency implementation, good engineering than some company just putting spec sheets on the table. I have a GPX for my desktop and a Pulsar for my laptop. Pulsar is good at fps games when I need it but it doesn't beat the GPX. Also with the hollow bottom design, I end up needing to clean it often before it feels jank.

The reason why big companies usually are that much more expensive is because they use alot of their money in research while the smaller companies just copy the results of the research which makes it easier to make a less expensive product.

All I know is I freaking love my GPX2. It's by far the best mouse I've ever owned and I've owned a bunch. So what if it's not cutting edge if everything about it is perfect for me. And I don't get the hate on the button clicks....I really like them. They feel much more deliberate and satisfying for lack of a better word.

Logitech made a standard for what a premium gaming mouse should be when they released the superlight. And now for this guys to say logitech made the superlight 2 for the mass audience and normies who can spend 170 dollars on a mouse. this is what I've been saying. our tech is so good nowadays, that even the "older generation" tech is still good enough for literally any use case. I'm sticking with my gprox until it breaks, and then I'm buying another one, because by the time mine breaks (which I don't think it will at this point) the price will be much lower in price.

I don’t understand people’s mentality when it comes to peripherals. They aren’t like pc hardware that needs to keep getting better and better to put up with the demands of increased graphics from newer and more complex games, and production workflows. We are almost basically at the point of diminishing returns, and better specs are basically meaningless, and no one can actually tell the difference between 1k and 8k. The difference between 10ms and 8ms is absolutely meaningless in the real world. If the mouse is good enough, and there’s no reliability issues, then it’s a good mouse(as long as you like the shape). Peripherals are a very subjective thing, and you should be buying a mouse based off of shape and feel, not off of 8k and overhyped marketing.

The g pro super light is a f**king amazing mouse, and I personally love the shape and feel, and people saying the hardware is “outdated” clearly don’t understand that Logitech were way ahead of the competition before, and only now is the competition catching up. Logitech basically reached that point of trying to make is any better gives so little performance improvement, that in the real world, there’s no point in trying to make it better. The mouse is good enough as is. Also I see the refresh as a win bc it makes the original mouse cheaper, and if you want a slight upgrade if your a diehard super light fan, then it’s there too, but complaining that the mouse update “is underwhelming and disappointing” makes no sense to me. People need to stop buying into overhyped marketing bs, and look at real world performance, reliability, shape and feel when buying a mouse, and this new mouse is going to tick all of those boxes for a lot of people.

I think the main reason why Logitech went with 2k polling instead of 4k polling is to not have excessive battery consumption. There's a chance we might even see a firmware update in the future.

Battery consumption is not an argument as users can simply lower the polling rate in settings. The reason they went with 2k hz polling rate was because they were losing market share and did a rushed release.

@@HeyNavi the reason 4k hz dongles come with a wire is because 4k hz polling rate has a lower connection range than 1k hz. By having the dongle on the wire you can bring it closer to your mouse and assure it never loses connection.

I figure there's enough PC hardware focused channels out there with that sort of info that me just repeating what they've said (since they know more than me) isn't worth it. Most pro teams can use what ever mouse they want. The pro players choose to use it. The shape is goated. I would rather have a solid 2k polling than a bad half ass 4K or 8 k that last 4 hours.

I have waited for them to update it to USB-C and new switches, so I pulled the trigger. It’s a great mouse, gives you a lot of control and the shape is very safe so that it will suit most people.

Their mice are also ridiculously expensive compared to the competition and break very often. The Sora 4k, DAV3Pro, and the new pulsar mice are much more intriguing.

@@syrioo because v3 wired has 8k hz and less quality control issues. The wired and the v3 pro faker edition also have better coating than the standard deathadder v3 pro and viper V2 pro. It really depends how much you value wireless. I'd say a mouse bungee will make it feel nearly identical to wireless anyways.

if they say their main selling point of the gpx is for 99% of gamer can use it, i the price must also be affordable for 99% of gamers. If they priced their mouse at that money, I could guarantee that most people would have a cpu more expensive than their mouse. Besides, they can sell 4k polling rate separately. It's similar to why you want a significantly higher fps than the refresh rate of your monitor. It means the game has the latest possible position value available to it.

even if 4k polling rate is very niche and not that noticeable they should have implemented it in the G pro X superlight 2 and if someone doesn't like 4k polling rate or their CPU is handling it badly then they can just turn it back down to 1k polling rate. also make it so 1k Hertz is the default option with a warning on the 4k option just so the 15yr old kid mentioned in the video isnt getting screwed over ....

I am in the process of RMA mine as we speak and I am looking forward to selling the new copy the send to me on a Marketplace while using the Logitech G Pro Superlight 2 that just came out after finding out the NP01-S isnt a good fit for me... that was a solid mouse as well tho.@@zonathanplayz4445

I have had two logitech wireless mice, I am carefull with my stuff and don't rage at them (never dropped or anything) but the both mice have died on me in less than a year. A friend of mine went through 6 superlights in a few years. I believe they are a bad make and that is why i went to razer, their mice are durable and have a very good feel (i went for the viper v2 pro) Edit: both the logitechs that died on me had a right or left click that stopped working for no reason, that rendered them un-usable

@@LeizXD As someone who has both, Viper is flatter by a lot so you don't get as much inner palm contact. the contact of the Viper is all in your lower palm, whereas the G Pro fills it more.

@@static6122 i play CS seriously and the fact that the viper fills the hand less makes it way more easy to flick, the fat grip of the superlight kinda makes it feel wierd, but it is still a good shape, I was just used to smaller mice and I don't tend to grip the mouse with my full hand.

Personally I think 2k is the best could realistically get within reason. From experience it has the "biggest differences" between the jumps of polling rate. 2k to 4k just has a very forgettable difference.

I bought a 50 euro mouse with 8k pooling rate and 53 grams. It s called Hyperx Haste 2 wired. Best choice if you want a light weight mouse. Wireless version has some problems, but the wired version is verry good for this price. Also I have an i7 8700k oc @ 5.1ghz and I don t feel a drifference in fps from 1k pooling rate to 8k. Maybe if u have and older gen cpu on ddr3 you gonna have some problems

Launch warzone in CPU intensive scenario and then you will feel the impact. Basically you can only feel when your CPU is already struggling in the game. 400fps in cs wont be an issue when you turn on 8k polling rate

Or they could just give the option of changing the polling rate from 4K to 2k. Just like razer let’s you switch the polling rate from 4k to 2k and even back down to 1k. Then compatibility based on hardware wouldn’t be an issue at all.

Personally I think 4kHz polling rate is not worth it, I have a HTS+ 4k, I love the mouse but I literally set it to 1000 Hz cuz I don't want it to die on me when I'm playing. Same thing on my DaV3 it seems like nothing more than a gimmick, while Aim Training or playing games it virtually feels the same.

Idk about u guys but honestly 4k polling isnt that different from 2k, when u go from 1k to 2 k your tesponse times goes from 1ms to 0.5 and when u go from 2k to 4k goes down to like 0.39 if im not mistaken, thats literally nothing considering 4k eats your battery like double the time, the problem is everything else and they made the mouse somehow worse

the difference between 4k and 1k barely made a difference in linus tech tips response time test for mice, maybe they didn't have the dpi high enough? idk. but realize that we are talking about noticing the difference going beyond 100 polls every tenth of a second, that's already a pretty high number.

The "Polling Rate" argument is honestly sounding a lot like a repeat of monitor refresh rate of 60hz vs 144hz to now establishing that 240hz is the #1 must win way to go etc etc. (Even though you still need 'hardware' that can push that). They're definitely NOT the same tech. But my point is that the "trend" is beginning to follow suit with the whole gaming monitor refresh rate thing. 60hz monitor representing 1kHz mice in this analogy.

No, I’d say in terms of monitor analogy; 1k polling rate is 144z, 2k is 165hz, 4k is 240hz, 8k is 360+hz.

Lower input latency isn't the biggest benefit of higher polling. Missing in this video is a list of games that are 4K compatible. Sensor matters too. CSuperlight 2 just came out. If anything competition has been chasing the original SL.

Yeah, a lot of older games especially wig out like crazy when you go above 500hz. Top of mind is crossfire. Playing that game on 1k polling ruins your mouse movement

This new 4k-8k mice are all shit and not needed. ☺️ Gpx is a good product, they chose 2 k because the diminishing returns are laughable to go higher. Buying something else than a logitech, finalmouse or razer is very dumb and you do not value your money. If you are a degenerate as well, that has 10 mice around his desk than you can try. But to get a no name brand as your main is wrong and dumb. The shape, weight and consistency of latency (sensor, clicks,etc) are the most important. What logitech said that the pros asked for 60g is crazy maybe in 2018. The secret is weight to go down. Snake oil subject and products. Razer will have to keep up with fm, but razer is more sketchy than fm.

The problem with Superlight is still overpriced lol, not using Type C for a 2021 gaming mouse. Am not a Razer guy but Razer beat them with better features and a freaking Type C with wireless/docking charging for almost the same price. 1k hz is more than enough for now.

No amount of mouse technology will help you if you suck at aiming you can have 8k polling or the best sensor if you suck, you suck. Most people uses GPX cause of familiarity, their hands are already used to the click, weight and how the mouse performs. Even the coating of the mouse if important. I Tried lamzu atlantis mini charcoal and its a great mice however the coating isn't just for me. Now all this complaints regarding GPX2 is valid, id rather wait for GPX3 than upgrading to GPX2.

1:55 "the sensor is outdated" what did he mean with this?... who cares about an increase of 2k dpi, which arent native and calculated anyway, or about an increasy of 50ips, while not even bruce lee could make a 400ips mouse spin at full punching speed. the HERO sensor has variable framrate, depending on the speed of mousemovement and variable LOD. this makes this "outdated" sensor objectively better, than alot of the newest pixart sensors... xD

I just want Logitech to release a 703 superlight with wireless and release a wireless competitor for the Naga V2 Pro. It's the only reason I won't buy Logitech, and it's disappointing. Deathadder V3 Pro and Naga V2 Pro it is until they do. I'd switch in a heartbeat. Logitech, if you see this... Please?

I don't need innovation, im still waiting for a smaller version of the superlight (same shape) - but with newest technical standards like type-C charging and current best sensor. Mice are tools, they don't need to be fancy, just deliver peak-performance for the individual and that would mean different sizes and maybe shapes of the top tier ones!

The real problems include the poorly designed skates, the switches, and not to mention the bs side button that didn’t get fixed at all :/ I love the g pro 1 and i really wanted to upgrade, but there’s absolutely no damn reason to look at Logitech mice.

I think anything above 2k polling rate is useless. even 1k is enough unless you use a 540hz monitor then I won't call you stupid for using 2k but 4k and 8k are just waste of performance for the next decade.

Polling rate is the new dpi, there will be always people that think that the higher number is better. For me 1000Hz is enough, I can't really tell the difference between 500hz and 1000hz, why would I need 4k?

There's so many good Chinese mouses currently in the market that's often 1/4 of its price and 1/2 for 4Khz. The only time I will buy a Logitech mouse again is when they release a smaller version of the superlight.

high polling rate is a joke. No human could tell the difference between 2 and 4k polling rate. I still use a UL2 with 500hz polling -- it doesnt matter whatsoever.

Always choose a mouse based on shape first. For me Viper V2 Pro clears GPX2 purely on shape regardless of the tech; this might not be the case for your hand. Even tho I do feel the difference between 1k/2k and 4k, shape always is the determining factor unless the mouse has like tech from 2005. The tech benefits are an extra bonus, not the reason to get a certain mouse.

I don't think I'm going to switch to the superlight 2 any time soon as long as my current superlight is working. Yeah fanboys this fanboys that, at the end of the day companies are making innovations just to trick people into getting their product over a different one even though they offer the exact same basic features and the chances of anyone noticing a difference are slim.

this trend in more polling rate is so stupid. yeah from a 1000hz to 10k you almost get a whole millisecond less latency xD for more money, less performance on older systems and less batterylife. the integration of the software from mice is wayyy more important and adjusting dpi also. optimum tech has a test on the differences from dpi on latency

Can’t tell difference between 2k and 4k polling tbh, it’s such a small difference especially Logitech’s implementation. 60g I think is the sweet spot for esports, and they are comfortable with it. Personally don’t like the scroll wheel, but clicks seem fine, and honestly it’s not like the super light is bad all of a sudden, it’s still by far the most used mouse
