I am David's aunt. We never told him because it never mattered to us. We loved them. He and his brother were part of the family. We didn't care about adoption. We just loved them, and moved on. It was my brother's wish that it wasn't brought up. When David did ask my sister about it, she was honest. It wasn't meant to hurt the boys. It just wasn't important to us where they came from. I don't understand the hateful comments. There was nothing to hide. We just loved them.

Everyone knew I was adopted but me. Found a letter in the closet at age 16. It was so hurtful to think why I was teased sometimes, my mum used to direct me to my dad sometimes when I was so happy to show something to her. Only my late adopted dad was my true guardian, protector, friend. I grieve silently even though he was gone 17+ years now. I do not the pain when you found out about yourself. Sometimes wishing to know who our real parents are. My life would have been different. God knows as he had planned it. Life still goes on. Sad though.

I just found out I was adopted I’m 21 just now finding out and what makes me even more sad I have a biological sister that has been looking for me for 4 years my adopted mom died this year and never told me. I had to find out through a letter also my auntie told me my mom had been getting letters in the mail since I was 18 about my biological sister wanting to meet me but my mom would throw them away she also told me they completely changed my first and last name when they adopted me which was around a couple days old I’m hurt but I had a good life and my family are good people.

The same thing happened to me, I felt betrayed and hurt, lost my meaning of what family is supposed to feel like, and I’m 63 and still have trouble getting close to people because if your family hurts you so much what will other do to you.

Since a while, it is advised by psychologists to tell children as soon as possible that they are adopted, it will not hurt them. The adoptive parents in this case are from an older generation, there was a lot of ignorance in those days, it is not their fault, most people did hide adoption for shame or prejudice towards the birth parents.Luckily things have changed, there is more tolerance now.
